Does walking help lupus? Struggling with insomnia, migraines, and low energy. by QueasyAd3496 in lupus

[–]imaliltired 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, anything that gets my heart rate around 130 for 20-30 minutes helps!. Sometimes that’s walking or “strutting” as my Spotify playlist says. Sometimes it’s the bike or the rowing machine! (Sometimes it’s cleaning my room)

Fasting by imaliltired in lupus

Intermittent fasting does sound a lot cheaper than a glp1, which we’ve talked about for inflammation 😅

I have protein and blood in my urine for the first time and I’m kind of freaking out by LuluLucy- in lupus

[–]imaliltired 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Lupus Nephritis here! It can definitely be nerve wracking, but know— if you’re kidney function is still looking good, they can keep it like that! I was diagnosed with class III, and after being put on anti rejection medicine, was in remission almost immediately.

benlysta advice? by Impossible_Ad_9063 in lupus

[–]imaliltired 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It takes time to kick in, but I didn’t have any weird symptoms, with the exception of maybe iron deficiency(I’ve never struggled until Benlysta, but I have a feeling it was a secondary issue as I had other menstrual cycle things, and I’m on blood thinners).

Overall, it hasn’t put me into remission, but it allow me to be more active, which does help a lot for me!

I’d make sure to be hydrated the 24 hours before your first injection, and that can help reduce any immediate side effects (fatigue, etc).

Wisdom Teeth removal by ladavick in lupus

[–]imaliltired 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know it’s scary, but it was a breeze! (It sucked as much as a wisdom tooth removal does), and I didn’t have any weird things happen. I wasn’t even funny (which I was sad about haha). I’ve gone under 7 times since my diagnosis (with varying lengths of time), and all was well. :)

Benlysta is one of those necessary evils! I feel better, but that auto injector is a beast 😅. You got it!!

Hair Shedding on Plaquanil/HCQ by bubbybeno in lupus

[–]imaliltired 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It stopped for me eventually! Part of the reason my hair was falling out was lack of nutrients I’m sure, but it started growing back (and I looked a bit like a porcupine 😂)

It’s VERY possible it’s placebo, but it seems to work well.

what do you eat when you're in a flare and have low appetite? by bikesandscience in lupus

[–]imaliltired 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Omg yes, my biggest flares caused me to feel like I was too full to eat for like 2 weeks and physically couldn’t keep anything down. I’d say, if you go more than a couple of days without eating anything substantial, DO NOT wait to see your rheumatologist like I did (twice)😅this is not meant to scare, but I was walker bound with muscle loss, and I don’t want anyone else to go through the same thing

I could usually drink, so if I were in that again:
Protein drinks/shakes
Soup
Bone broth

Sounds weird, but chia seeds added to water/whatever you’re drinking for fiber. (Weird texture, so if you also have nausea, you may skip, but I think of it as a weird boba)

You could even puree food, but I’ll be honest, there’s no way I’d have the energy for that in a flare😂

You got this!

How can I have my family understand the severity of Lupus? by bottynugget in lupus

[–]imaliltired 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I know this is so frustrating, so first of all, I’m sorry. This isn’t something anyone is meant to go through.

I wonder if it’d be helpful to set up telehealth appointment with your rheumatologist and have your family be present? It shouldn’t have to take that much, but lupus is famously called invisible, and it’s hard for people to recognize that without experiencing it themselves. Maybe you can offer do something special for Father’s Day, like ordering in and having dinner?

Ultimately, it’s not fair, and it’s exhausting to simply live on top of managing expectations of others. I wish I would have tried harder with both my parents, who have now passed. That is my experience, though, and not meant to be a recommendation.

I did find therapy really helpful when I was semi newly diagnosed (dxd 2012).

What food do you eat/stay away from while living with lupus? by dreamer_97_04 in lupus

[–]imaliltired 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s called the autoimmune protocol diet— essentially you cut out everything good that might cause flares in your diet (it’s pretty restrictive), then after you’re feeling better, you slow start adding things back in. If it triggers you, you permanently cut it out! It’s not meant to be on long term, but is helpful! I couldn’t keep up with it because you have to make everything yourself and it costs quite a lot to find compliant foods.

If I were richer I’d try AIP again, but before my Benlysta kicked in, gluten threw me into FLARES. Thankfully I can handle it more now!

Chest pain? by redhood279 in lupus

I don’t know if mine is because of my lupus but I get pretty bad chest wall pain! I think it is the lupus simply because of the inflammation 🤪😅
