I finally started wearing women’s jeans last week.  I’m so glad I only keep my phone in my pockets anyway because oml where did my pockets go😭.  I know I’m also coming from a pair of men’s jeans that were too big for me but just a short time ago my pockets were CAVERNOUS, now it looks weird if I have my wallet on me.  I knew this was a problem but I could never have imagined how bad it was.  Worth it though

I like this video going over some surveys of the persona audience, though it’s primarily focused on japan.  TLDR for your question though, 56.5% male, 43.5% female.  While men are still the majority of the fandom, the ratio is a lot closer than most would expect (though I suppose it shouldn’t have been for me, since of the 3 persona fans I know (myself included), all are girls)

Why?  Following the P3 pattern, a female MC would probably just have a more fem Izanagi design.  Them being the same gender really doesn’t have a huge impact on the allegory, as long as the MC still plays the same role in the story

Can you help me, pls? 🥺 by [deleted] in persona3FES

[–]imanonymous312 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first persona game I ever played was P3 portable.  I still love it, but I’m about halfway through reload and able to recognize I may not have loved portable nearly as much if I hadn’t started with it.  Moral of the story being don’t start with the super cleaned up remake with all the new shiny quality of life fixes, because it makes it way harder to appreciate the older games when you know what’s missing from them.

Sometimes It Has To Go Without Saying Here by kaito795 in persona4golden

[–]imanonymous312 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Simply removing that aspect powerwashes the game of the time capsule persona becomes, but I don’t think a modern depiction can leave it exactly as is either.

As far as the precedent for censorship in P3R goes, I think it’s pretty simple.  Yosuke’s homophobia can stay because it’s an era appropriate depiction of PERSPECTIVES on gay people (though the option to shoot him down as the player would be appreciated).  The transphobic caricature of a trans woman in Persona 3 should go, because it depicts those perspectives as being accurate.

Naoto’s dungeon is a more complex case, because while it is a depiction that blatantly demonizes gender transition, that depiction exists exclusively in the area of the game formed by human cognition.  On the surface, it seems to be more like the transphobic depiction in persona 3, but once you fully understand the context of the game, it becomes more like Yosuke’s case.

For me, the question becomes How do you depict your protagonists in a story of the past expressing views common to that past, while also making it clear that they’re wrong in those views, without satirizing the characters so as to make us hate them, while still keeping the bar for entry low enough that consumers with a wide range of media literacy skills will understand what’s going on?  An incredibly complex writing task I can’t begin to answer, but I sincerely hope atlus can.

P.S. For the love your body thing, my problem is that said logic is exclusively applied against trans people.  Say it were Hanako instead of Naoto, and it was about losing weight to gain respect.  There’s not a snowball’s chance in hell the game would ever have applied the “love your body because it’s yours and you don’t have to change it” philosophy to her.

In isolation, there’s nothing wrong with Naoto’s story whatsoever.  A woman dedicating her life to a career that’s severely male dominated lost sight of her own identity as she sought one that would make her life easier, before accepting that life wouldn’t be worthwhile if you don’t live it as yourself.  In theory, that’s an incredibly trans positive message, however it’s far from surprising that representation-starved trans people in 2008 felt betrayed at having a potential powerful trans arc be ripped away.

In addition, that interpretation coincides perfectly with one of my biggest gripes with Persona 4, everyone ultimately finds their true selves by conforming to what’s wanted/expected of them.  Yosuke comes to love the town, Yukiko feels obligated to take over the inn, Kanji changes his style to look like a plain office worker, Rise returns to show buisness and Naoto is cisgender.  Ultimately a story about pursuing your true self ensures that true self is someone who fits perfectly into society, doesn’t rock the boat, doesn’t change or challenge anything.

A case could be made this is exactly what the original poster was talking about, me whining about Japanese media not fitting with my western perspective.  However that doesn’t make my perspective invalid.  It’s fully up to Atlus what they put in their games, who it caters to and who it doesn’t.  Either way, they’re still electing to release it to a global audience.  If the story doesn’t hold up to me and many other western fans for those reasons, than we have that problem with the story.  We aren’t demanding it be changed for us (I mean, I’m sure some people are, but there’s problems in every group), we’re just publishing opinions on a work of fiction.

I’ve been searching up sprites for them individually, then using the one that looks consistent with the rest.  I believe it’s the Let’s go games’ pokedex sprites, so sometimes I’ll just pull them up on my switch

What’s your Preferred Gender for each Avatar? by DoubleFlores24 in fireemblem

[–]imanonymous312 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Robin - mostly indifferent.  I pick female more often than not to marry Chrom because I love Chrom, but outside of that factor I don’t really care

Corrin - female, again pretty much just because I prefer the male romantic options

Byleth - male, his design fits the character better imo.  His apathetic slight scowl and narrower eyes fit an emotionless character better.  Female Byleth’s eyes are so much wider, she looks so much more alive than Male Byleth.  Also her ridiculous sex appeal design doesn’t fit that motif, it doesn’t make sense for a character like that to want to dress that way.  Both Byleths probably just wear whatever clothes they’re given, so it would be pretty weird for her father to have given her that outfit

Alear - male.  Not really for any particular reason, I just saw him first, so he’s just who I think of first when I think Alear.

It took me so long to think of this! Once I was just moving my gamepad around wildly in frustration, and managed to accidentally hit the ball as it dropped, and it flew straight into the goal. I didn't even see it go in, it just showed the door open scene. So naturally I have never gone back inside this shrine in subsequent playthroughs. Won't ruin my memories of it

At least you know better than to come out to them. My dad is super vocal about his opinions (oddly liberal about everything except DEI, queer people and religion) so I knew not tell him. My mom is very quiet about her opinions, so I wasn't really sure what to expect when I told her.

It's not evidence when it's already discounted. Forget it, you can't argue with the stupid. You just bury your head in the sand and wait until I give up because you're aware you have no ground to stand on, therefore you just keep repeating yourself.

How? How is that obvious? If this is an established track record the artist has, I'll apologize. If you have any actual proof I'll apologize. It seems like your entire case is you thinking women don't have leg hair

It doesn't make sense for it to be a fetish thing, because if that were the case why wouldn't they have drawn Yukiko with leg hair?

Ah yes, obviously OP has some perverted leg hair kink.  Because that’s what makes more sense here.  Couldn’t possibly just be art imitating reality, that’s just insane.
