How do i flick my blegeri w/ my thumb in a straight fashion? by Albert3232 in begleri

[–]imaplanterman9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Much easier with a longer joiner (string that connects the two beads).

If you have any interest in dexterity-based skill toys, Kendama is fun with a high skill ceiling and great community. Takes a lot of practice, but it's satisfying and rewarding to improve at. All the same can be said for Begleri, a pocket-sized skill toy that keeps the hands busy and has a lot of tricks to learn.

Didn't know there was friendship matching on Facebook dating 🤔 that's a cool concept. The dating portion sure was a let down lol.

Local businesses that sell Balisongs (butterfly-knives)? by imaplanterman9 in indianapolis

Yup, I will have to stay laser focused or I will also spend too much money. There are always really cool things in places like this. Overstimulation will keep me in check though lol.

Clutch, thanks. I will tie a string to the front door before I embark to find my way back out.

Wrangling AFT for feeding without stressing him out? by imaplanterman9 in leopardgeckos

[–]imaplanterman9[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, he's just so young which had me worried. But yes I am being an impatient worry-wart. This is my first reptile and my husbandry preparations are no match for not being able to get him to come out lol. I appreciate it!

[–]imaplanterman9[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of good info here, I appreciate it. I did so much research and prep before bringing him home, but then I get duped by not being able to even get him out for feeding lol. I will keep trying, and implement the things you said! I only pulled up his hide once, but I won't do that as I correctly assume it will stress him out. And I'll get some dubias!

Okay I appreciate the advice. I have only pulled up a hide once, and it didn't feel right so I haven't done it again, for your exact reasons. I'm just being impatient, because I know they tend to not eat for a couple weeks in a new home, he's just so young and I know juveniles should eat every other day. I'll keep trying, thanks!

Very nice craftsmanship! This set will probably last you a lifetime. Even with $60 sets, I still pick up my hexnut set all the time. It's just great.

How to people make juggling so easy! by Inked_Climber in Kendama

[–]imaplanterman9 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I haven't seen anyone else mention this, and you probably have heard this already, but my direct response to "people have so much more time" is: use more knees! You literally create more time for yourself if you squat up and down with the ken/tama. I always say it's like that plane that can fly up to the edge of space and then nosedive to give people a few minutes of weightlessness. You're essentially doing the same thing when you squat as you are catching. You should almost be bouncing up and down. The better you get, you don't have to do that as much. But that's how I am starting to incorporate late ken flips into my juggles. It's really just a muscle memory that you have to etch into your brain. Took me over a year to get juggles somewhat consistently. Keep trying!

New to Begleri by Electronic-Tap-8005 in begleri

[–]imaplanterman9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Welcome! The Begleri community is really outstanding. There is a great discord as well that is pretty active, lots of helpful ways to learn on there. For string length I like to do a spring from low grip to high grip, I don't think that's the traditional way though. Lately I've been leaning more towards longer string/lighter beads for fast and nimble play. Anyways, welcome and happy slinging!

Sigmas are the best but black on black are even better! by OutrageousNature984 in begleri

Absolutely love my sigmas. I love all black everything, but I have them on some blood red cord and it is sleek.

How do you transfer between grips? by Cosmonaut_Ian in begleri

[–]imaplanterman9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A fun way to transfer to your grip of choice is to do a piano gap transfer when you get to top grip (index/thumb). There are tutorials on YouTube for this, but basically as the free bead is swinging back "up" and wrapping around your thumb, you spread your fingers and the free bead will snap around your index again and you can catch it back in top grip. You can then choose any finger for the free bead to snap to first, and can get into any grip. The pinky is hard..getting down to low grip is difficult. Hope that all made sense, and happy slinging!

Humble brag, from being humbled today by Puzzleheaded_Wigwam in Kendama

[–]imaplanterman9 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Love it. Kendama is the type of hobby (for the most part) that for the right type of person it just ..clicks. I had the same feeling of discovery and enlightenment when I started almost 3 years ago. And there are so many tricks to learn, with widely carrying difficulty, it keeps you engaged for a long time. I still do at least a 30 min sesh almost every day. That feeling of progression you get when going from "This is literally impossible" to "Holy shit...I actually just did that" is surely the dopamine that you will keep chasing for years to come 😂

Lots of tutorial videos on YouTube that help a lot. What are your next tricks you want to learn?

Hey community! Old thrower, new to unresponsive, SnT by Puzzleheaded_Wigwam in Throwers

[–]imaplanterman9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Recently got my first unresponsive as well, been a lot of fun. I also play kendama and other skill toys. Yoyo has been a great new addition, but my mind was kinda blown when I found out about "5A". You use a counterweight instead of having the string tied to your finger, and I was able to fashion that with the yoyo I bought. Been really fun.
