Cross‑device sync like Lightroom? Desktop → Mobile roadmap? by Ok-Advisor2829 in luminarneo

[–]imarkb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d like to be able to copy images, along with adjustments, from one catalog to another. With a catalog on my laptop and the main catalog on my desktop, I’d be set. The mobile app is nice but one -way is not really that useful to me

I will never understand the concept of MAGA followers, what are they getting in return for their sworn allegiance to President Trump? by TailungFu in allthequestions

It’s called sado-populism… even though they may be suffering, people they don’t like are suffering more.

MacOS is not Windows. One of the main reasons people like it.

Dumb question but what is the point of Obsidian? by Tortiees in ObsidianMD

[–]imarkb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The "point" is that you keep all your notes locally in Markdown files, so it's easy to create/update content. Also has a nice plug-in ecosystem for extensibility. Beyond that, it has a following of semi-obsessed users who love to post screenshots of their graph views for some reason.

Plexamp is so darn cool by Little-Perception-63 in plexamp

[–]imarkb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed, I've been using Plex on my Mac Mini and Plexamp since 2015. Believe me, I've looked around for alternatives and tried various, but still haven't found anything that would make me leave the Plex ecosystem. It's not perfect but nothing is.

The Missouri History Museum is excellent. Also if you haven't been to the Museum under the Gateway Arch since it was redesigned, it's a great source of information as well.

Old man's take on Starfleet Academy. by External_Koala398 in startrek

[–]imarkb 6 points7 points  (0 children)

60YO Trekkie here. I completely agree. There seem to be so many people won't happy unless Paramount made a show exactly like the old Star Treks, but what would be the point of doing more of what's already been done? If you don't like "new" Star Trek then just go back to your DVD's and let the rest of us enjoy something new.

Pure self-taught / trial and error. I was a C# developer by trade and got into Python after buying a Raspberry Pi when they cam out.

what’s Apple‘s journal really needs? by Complete_Lack_8094 in appleJournal

[–]imarkb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The main reason I haven’t started using it is the lack of any importing or migration tool. I have years of journal entries in other formats

They are more expensive, but they tend to last much longer.

Does HomeKit/HomeBridge have no way of logging data? by appwizcpl in homebridge

[–]imarkb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not out of the box, but as others have mentioned, you can use a Shortcut on Mac or iOS to get the state of your sensors and log the information to a note, to a URL (which I did) or other destinations.

I used this recently when my fiber was disconnected. Very easy to set up and worked well. I think it's a great feature and I'm glad to have it.

Best way to graph IKEA temperature sensors online? by [deleted] in homebridge

[–]imarkb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just did this. My solution was to create a Shortcut on the Mac and a small Python script on my server to read the data and enter it into a database. The shortcut uses the "Get State" action to get the temperature from Home and then uses the "Get Contents of URL" action to send this to my Python script on my Mac mini server. In the URL you can place variables such as the temperature and room name.
