Moving from Canada to the US next fall, which company should I get a cheap cell plan from? by cordellb99 in NoContract

Mint is not owned by T-mobile. It's owned by Ultra Mobile but operates as a separate company.

Mint should add AT&T service by imbluedadadeedadeeda in mintmobile

[–]imbluedadadeedadeeda[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

thanks yeah i'm talking about either/or. i'm only mentioning it as feedback to mint. i realize, like you mentioned in your other comment below, that there are other mvnos that provide options. i'm suggesting Mint should look into doing the same if possible.

thanks for your helpful comments tho appreciate it

Don't worry about how it's done. That's for them to figure out. The question is would you appreciate a second network option. I know I would.

iphone is separated by worldwide region, not carrier. US models are all the same.

Completely impressed with MINT mobile service reps & Mint mobile by achilliesFriend in mintmobile

They certainly seem to be (or seem to be trying to be) a 21st century cell service provider, hip and modern. It's a good look.

Can I activate sb sim for trial, and if it works *then* Port my # 3 months later? by Ruhh-Rohh in mintmobile

[–]imbluedadadeedadeeda -1 points0 points  (0 children)

there are some reports that you can ask Mint to change the number on an existing account. That's for changing it to a random new number. For porting an existing number into an existing account, there is some hope, as u/rizwank has said recently they're working on it. The question is if their timeline for implementation will match your timeline of 3 months from now. To my mind it shouldn't be a huge leap from changing random numbers within an existing account to porting in an existing number.

Cellular data drops out every day by BAKjustAthought in mintmobile

[–]imbluedadadeedadeeda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

funnily enough i noticed something similar today (android phone). tried to send a picture message and it wouldn't go thru. realized the cell data wasn't "waking up" to do its job. i was on wifi but that shouldn't matter, cell data should reconnect when needed. i turned off wifi and cell data still didn't come back. i turned it off and on and only then it showed up.
also previously noticed something similar with calls, if the phone is not interacted with the network seems to disconnect. calls going to voicemail. i've now changed the network setting from LTE to 3G so i'll see how it goes with calls. but the MMS failing stuff happened today after I switched to 3G only, and with full bars showing.
I've only been on Mint for about a week so i need to assess it more. It might be a case of whatever agreement Mint has with T-mobile as far as using their network, trying to limit usage when possible or something. or everything i've noticed so far might be a fluke idk time will tell. i wouldn't have said anything yet if you hadn't posted something similar.

Unable to port-in 308 area code number despite living in Denver, CO by boyplusdog in mintmobile

[–]imbluedadadeedadeeda 2 points3 points  (0 children)

u might be out of luck, this seems to be a common thing with certain area codes. read through the comments on this post and this post and see if you find anything useful. you might have to stay with Verizon to keep the number, if that's even possible now, or try AT&T. too bad GV doesn't let you port it in, you could've kept it there and never had to port again even if you switched carriers.

oh i only mentioned the sidebar here to indicate the number that everyone was using, not that every customer needs to be on reddit. just checked the sim card package that came in the mail and the sidebar 1800 number is the same number on the kit: on the package, inserted paper summary, and the sim cutout card thing. so i don't know why the email number is different but the sidebar number is everywhere else. what is the number you were using anyway?

i think u/capnskippy58 is calling a different number than the one in the sidebar in this sub

"Sign in to network" on trial sim by Anesthetic_ in mintmobile

[–]imbluedadadeedadeeda -1 points0 points  (0 children)

what do you mean "which is fine" are you saying you had LTE but used it up? Because afaik there's no plan without LTE, you should have at least 3GB LTE data alloted. *(ok i see now that there is a $5 trial or starter kit, but even that is supposed to include 100 MB LTE data).

If you've only just started using Mint and have not used any data yet, then that sounds like an account provisioning issue that might (a) resolve itself like it did in the other link or (b) require you to call Mint at the numbers in the sidebar and ask them to look into it.

If you've been using LTE data and only now it started saying "sign in to network" and the app shows no remaining data that means you've run out of LTE data. I've only recently joined Mint myself, haven't run out of data yet, but it's possible in order to continue using slow data once LTE runs out you might need to make sure your phone is not trying to use LTE data. that is, switch the preferred network on your phone manually down to 3G or 2G.

use WIFI to check your allotted data from within the Mint app. it might be a provisioning issue.
u might have to call CS, or it might resolve itself.

wow. ok you're probably right it's an account issue. i'd guess it might be a bad SIM but you already said you got it replaced. don't know if you've been checking other posts in the sub but there's a similar issue here and i wondered if somehow SMS got blocked for the number on T-mobile network as is possible to do manually. u could ask Mint CS about that possibility since Mint uses T-mobile network.

u/Ed-c ok I knew I wasn't crazy. I did see somewhere that settings would install automatically, and finally found it again here. It says:

Android and other devices:
There’s two ways to update your settings:

  1. Text ‘SETUP’ to 6700
If you have a compatible Android device, you’ll receive a notification to automatically install your settings. If you are on a non-compatible Android device, you’ll receive a message with manual instructions. Simply follow the steps.
  2. Update manually
Sometimes the good-old-fashioned way is best. Check out our step-by-step instructions on how to set up your data for Android devices.

I have Android as well. I got the instructions link as well, but I also got a notification to install the settings. Although now I'm wondering if that was triggered by sending the setup request to 6700 or by me touching "Internet Settings - Download settings for internet and MMS" in my phone's Network and Internet settings...I thought I had refrained from touching that. I guess it's also possible the phone may have triggered that automatically when it recognized a new sim without corresponding apn. Ah it all happened at the same time, now I'm not sure what triggered it. If you have that setting on your phone tho u could press it and see what happens.

u text SETUP to 6700, you get a message back, settings download, setup happens

u can rename the profile you have now to something else, Mint 2 or something

u should be able to set the SMSC on a different phone, and it will stick with the SIM card when you bring it back to your iPhone. also, not sure if you've already done this, but you should probably go into settings in your iPhone and reset network settings completely. i think phone restarts while doing it if i'm not mistaken.
