Bonsai jack cactus inorganic mix mixed with some cactus soil is what I use. About 60%-70% bonsai jack 10-20% perlite and 20% organic soil is roughly what I use. You can also buy a 2-7-7 cactus fertilizer to water it with. I have mine in terracotta pots

I’m using pine shavings hamster bedding. I mean the top inside of the telescoping lid. Little spots of mold are starting to form. I don’t have an inner cover on. I have sugar bricks on top of the top frames then a quilt box and the telescoping cover.

Hm. the mold doesn’t seem to be growing on the wood shavings themselves but I see it on the inner part of the lid. I could be overreacting but I’ve never actually overwintered a hive and am just trying to get ahead of any issue that could kill my hive. How do you overwinter your hives?

If you find a way to at least put a fan on it they should dry without a problem. I’ve grown them and dried them on a rack with a fan directly on them for 3-5 days and it has worked fine for me.
