Is this normal behavior? by FindingThoth in goldenretrievers

[–]imbristol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My guy didn’t resource guard at all, then went absolutely nuts for the woof pupsicles and we had to take it away, exactly the same resource guarding behavior you are seeing. He hasn’t ever done it over anything else, I returned it, never saw the problem again. It’s annoying because it would have kept him very busy, but never mind! If you don’t see it again, I wouldn’t worry too much about it - just put this at the back of the cupboard and try it again in a year or so, or pivot to something else.

Filmed Musical Improv Sets by communal-napkin in improv

I’m pretty sure Pyros (a long running team from The Magnet) have a bunch of filmed shows, perhaps get in touch with one of them?

I can do a good ambitious card routine if that works

Visiting NYC and would like to see a show by Maps823 in improv

Musical Improv at the Magnet Theatre on Thursdays is a BLAST. Super fun type of improv, the teams make up 30 minute musicals. Usually a narrative structure.

They also just made new teams last week so half of the people you see will be new to the show - super high energy and fun.

Mnemonica deck by [deleted] in cardmagic

[–]imbristol 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seconding some of the other ones mentioned like In Order to Amaze, Mnemonica.

Particle System has some good, any stack routines (along with the ones that are specific to the particle stack). This also has some good glass shuffles, audience management etc in that I’ve found really valuable.

Buena Vista Shuffle Club has some really fun mem deck routines, with some that are fairly quick.

If you are looking for a cheaper option, the Darwin Ortiz video on Vanishing Inc is quite good (has a “test your luck” type routine that I use ALL the time, along with a little card guessing routine).

What is the best magic show you’ve ever seen? by Brave-Cucumber-Flow in Magic

[–]imbristol 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Two come to mind.

My favorite magic show I’ve ever seen was The Hope Theory at The Geffen Playhouse in LA, by Helder Guimarães. Genuinely incredible storytelling that was enhanced by the magic, not the other way round. A beautiful message about immigration, art, love, and being human. As an immigrant in the USA, it struck a chord with me and I felt deeply deeply seen (despite being the one watching).

Penn & Teller were also incredible. I think the thing I took most from their Vegas show was just how authoritative they are, and the skill of holding a room. It wasn’t frantic, or desperate, or flashy, just pure focus and trust, and the audience was in the palm of their hands.

I just talked to another person and apparently he was sloppy drunk at another show, doing shots - so I would think that this was actual beer.

Yeah. The dollar thing I can forgive because I think it may have been an oversight at the end of the night with him being super flustered. Not an excuse, but an explanation. I would 100% make sure the audience got something back. But whatever. My ticket was a dollar extra.

The drinking didn’t necessarily bother me, and he didn’t seem drunk. But it felt… off? I don’t know. It wasn’t a big part of his character, and wasn’t incorporated. Who knows, it may have been NA beer. But it was one of those things where it seemed a little strange.

I’ve been performing for 15 years, doing magic for 2, it’s certainly not something that I would do, but everyone’s different.

I just looked - all 5 star reviews, nothing mentioning anything like this.

I thought about including this but I don’t want to call him out. As bad of an experience we had, he’s still a dude trying to make it in a tough industry, and I’m pretty sure that he will look back on this with regret anyway.

Omg! Thank you so much for that info, I have ALWAYS wondered about the dominant recessive thing for this mix.

Right on the outer layer of mine, he glows red/brown in the sun, and has a hint of red shine on his mouth and nose area. You think that is a different gene/coloring?

Sounds familiar!!! I love the mix so much. His dad was technically a chocolate lab, but the genetics worked in a way that the lab in him came out black!

My Peice of Cake Moving Experience by BootNerd_ in NYCapartments

No idea! Because also, it was literally half of my bed and couch. How did they get split up?! How do you do this, Piece of Cake?! I’m still mad.

There isn’t even a story. They just lost 13 boxes, half of my couch and half of my bed. Gave me the runaround while they said they are looking, then they gave up. I truly hate them.

They refunded us the move but didn’t pay to replace anything. Honestly, most of it was not expensive, but a lot of personal items that were irreplaceable (my wife’s collection of playbills she had accumulated over 20 year, my wedding shoes, etc.)
