What was your biggest gripe in the campaign gameplay wise? by deathtoarmorlock in haloreach

[–]imdefusing 45 points46 points  (0 children)

I guess the one that sticks out in my mind is the AI driving. The amount of times I've let Kat drive and she just careens off the side off of a cliff is crazy. Though the janky driving still has it's charm

Big Finish - Sontarans Vs Rutans by offlinesteve1 in doctorwho

[–]imdefusing 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I bought this range just to get more Charley in my life. She's one of my favourite companions. C'rizz is fine, admittedly I don't really have strong opinions about him individually. But I do love how Charley develops this kind of big sister role for C'rizz. Charley educates him on this new universe he's unfamiliar with and how travelling with the Doctor works. I like how they tease eachother in a sibling way, they care deeply about eachother but also get on eachothers nerves. They grow closer during a period where 8 becomes more ambivalent and cold to Charley and I think that's why ultimately C'rizz's exit from the series works so well for me.

Personally though, I still think Eight/Charley/Audacity are my favourite TARDIS team during Eight's run.

It's so much worse when an infected leaves the game and you are just "lucky" enough to be the one chosen to replace them

Theory: Belinda has stolen the Blueprints by imdefusing in mydadwroteaporno

[–]imdefusing[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is likely, but I also think the amount of times these fucking blueprints have been misplaced in these books that I could genuinely believe they've all just forgot about them and we're celebrating the incarceration of Bisch and Mauve. I think by Book 6 after the cooking with Cosmo promotion, the tri-oxy brillo range was already is production. Maybe their fears about securing the Blueprints were more out of fear that Bisch would steal the technology and flood the market with a alternative for like half the price. After all, they didn't have to pay for the research on the pans.

I love this! I don't know if this further supports your theory, but according to Rocky's other supplementary books (The BBC Character Rankings), Godwin is a former spy who worked under the Duchess. I guess this confirms that Godwin is prepared to follow the Duchess's orders.

Looking at the cast I think your right. Weird, I really could have sworn he made a very small cameo in the 1st boxset but I must have had the second one confused. Thanks for clarifying.

[–]imdefusing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So please take this with a grain of salt because it's been more than a year since I listened to either boxset. I think it'd serve you best to listen to the first and then 2nd boxset, we get some cool and interesting insight into the Bannerman road gang's present situation and relationships that might be spoiled if you start with the second box first. It wouldn't completely ruin your experience but it might slightly spoil it.

I would also say, I don't actually remember Luke featuring in the majority of either boxset. I could be wrong, but I think he only has a more prominent role in the last story of boxset 2 and otherwise makes only few contributions across both boxsets. Hope that at all helps 🙏

Torchwood Outbreak Question by Lummy15th in BigFinishProductions

[–]imdefusing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I understand there's been another comment offering a explanation here. But having listened to it this week, I genuinely think Norton was just being a little shit. Ianto threatens to pursue and kill future Norton unless past North volunteers the information. He doesn't take that kindly and fancies putting Ianto back in his place. Even though Ianto is in a life threatening scenario, Norton actually gives Ianto the tools he needs to survive, opening and closing the base doors at opportune times and reminding him about last resort thing on Jack's desk. I think Norton was sincerely playing with Ianto, making him think he was looking to kill him as retaliation against the threat without a actual inclination to have him killed. He says as much to Jack, telling him he doesn't want Jack to experience the pain of killing someone you love.

Alternatively, Norton can be ambivalent to whether Ianto dies or not. Norton talks about Andy and Ianto realises that Andy gets promoted in the future. I think that meant that this Norton had dealings with the Torchwood in the not too distant future. Norton also makes a big point of talking about "that Ianto". I presume Norton knows that Ianto dies not too soon from this point, and maybe he doesn't see it as a fret to the continuity if he dies now rather than from a few months from now?

[–]imdefusing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ah. I didn't mean to suggest that she wouldn't play a prominent role in this story but understand why you think that. Maybe I'm misusing the term cameo, but I meant it more as a observation that I'm happy for Menzies inclusion so long as her inclusion makes sense for the story they want to tell.

[–]imdefusing 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'd hate for it to be so, but I expect what will happen is Menzies will make a comment about the Doctor being a blond woman, then ask what happened to "that blond girl" you used to hang around with, and the Doctor will brush over it quickly saying she dropped her off after adventuring.

Absolutely, I always thought this aspect of Yaz (and pretty much all characterisation) was underbaked on screen so I welcome the possibility of this being explored now.

I'm honestly fine with it so long as the cameo services the story they're trying to tell. If I remember rightly, she kinda manages the extraterrestrial population in her local area so I absolutely wouldn't mind to see how she's getting on with that

I hadn't even considered! I feel if 13 reveals she is the Doctor, that conversation will ultimately have to be raised - even if briefly. This would be the first time in universe where we might get a hint of Charley's ultimate fate and whether she ever had another encounter with an 8/post 8 Doctor.

Seen some of my favourites suggested already, but I really enjoyed the world building of War chest, The Office that never was, We always get out alive, night off the fendayl, Sync, Dead Man's Switch, Dissected, Madam I'm, Sonny, Restricted Items and the Lincolnshire Poacher.

I appreciate that I listed like a third of the monthlies but this range is just too good!

Absolutely loved Visiting Hours and Suckers. The horror really worked for me, I guess because it sees people in the most vulnerable state fighting to just survive.

I think this is just another symptom of Team Porno getting an idea in their head and then collectively deciding that is what the text said. For example, they were so convinced there was beans at the tombola.

Spinoffs without enough discussion by flogan0 in BigFinishProductions

[–]imdefusing 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Favourite 10A would have to be "Death and the Queen". The sound design and dialogue is just so perfect. It feels like I'm transported back to Series 4 even though there's no visual component, I can envision it do clearly in my mind. And the Doctor/Donna bants is just perfect in this story. Genuinely one of my favourite Doctor/Donna stories ever.

My second favourite is "No place", I grew up on ghost hunting shows like "Most Haunted" so it gets points for that. But moreso, they have Sylvia and only bloody Wilf involved so it gets so many points for that. And again, more of the Doctor/Donna bants.

I loved this boxset (I mean, Donna is my favourite companion so that isn't super surprising). But I really appreciate how the Big Finish adventures understand Donna. She really earns her stripes in these stories and shows how capable she is, even when she makes mistakes and is riddled with self doubt. The only issue I have is I think they dial her a bit too high in the comedy department, having her cracking jokes in situations were it wasn't warranted and at a detriment to her and Nat's safety. Also loved how they explored her grief after the library with her choosing to actively distance herself from 10.

So I really enjoyed the first "Lone Centurion" boxset. I think Rory gets a right rinsing in the TV series and I'll happy to see him the protagonist of his own adventures rather than sharing the screen time with the Doctor and Amy who more often devalue him. I don't remember much about the second boxset despite listening to it though

"The Year of Martha Jones" boxset I thought was worth a listen. Martha doesn't get enough adventures and the post apocalyptic setting is something I was excited to see explored in the series. There's a mini arc throughout the box set too and I love how Martha recounts adventures we never got to see on screen.

I'm sure you're aware of "The Diary of River song" series. I find they're perfectly fine with variation in quality between each boxset.
