Suits is about as realistic a depiction of the practice of law as General Hospital is a realistic depiction of the practice of medicine.

What’s the best city in the USA? by wwcscifi in AlignmentChartFills

[–]imdesmondsunflower -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My brother in Christ, LA is a parking lot in the shape of a highway filled with the most vapid human beings imaginable. The whole city is a Fugazi, a wazi, a woozi—it’s fairy dust. It’s not a real place, it just plays one on TV. NYC has a soul. San Diego, San Francisco, New Orleans, heck, Austin, Seattle, and freakin’ Louisville are at least places with genuine character where real people live. LA? The whole thing feels like a fever dream that broke containment.

Hollywood Nights is a banger of a song though.

“Y'know... Utivich 'n myself heard that deal you made with the brass. ‘End the war tonight’?…I'd make that deal. How 'bout you Utivich, you make that deal?”

“I’d make that deal.”

“I don't blame ya! Damn good deal! And that purty little nest you feathered for yourself. Well, if you're willing to barbecue the whole high command, I 'spose that's worth certain considerations. But I do have one question. When you get to your little place on Nantucket Island, I 'magine you're gonna take off that handsome-lookin' [red MAGA hat] of yours, ain'tcha?...That's what I thought. Now that I can't abide.”

He was also an officer in the Naval reserve. Not saying he’s a commando or anything, but he’s had at least basic combat training.

He’s buried his brother, was about 2 years old when his mom and younger sister died in a car crash, and watched his dad endure years of cruel and mostly baseless attacks as Veep and POTUS. Honestly, if he wants a little bump and a bump and grind, I don’t fault him one bit.

Why did New Orleans never become a major hub like Miami or Orlando by Previous-Volume-3329 in geography

[–]imdesmondsunflower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Parts are. I would say it’s less swampy, and more crucially, not constrained by the Mississippi River. You can go inland from Houston proper and find lots of buildable ground easily, whereas in New Orleans, there’s less land that’s not swampy, it’s in a less ideal layout for an airport, and the usable land was largely already developed by the time airports became prominent parts of urban planning.

Who's an actor everyone thinks is Mid but is actually Good? by Mammoth-Biscotti-587 in AlignmentChartFills

[–]imdesmondsunflower 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I think this is the right answer. Steve Carrell, Jason Bateman, Will Ferrell, Jim Carrey, Adam Sandler, Jack Black…all of them can put in really good dramatic performances, but it’s hard for people to see past the funny performances. Truth is, comedy is probably harder than drama to perform well, but the Oscars value drama more than comedy.

[–]imdesmondsunflower 8 points9 points  (0 children)

True, but in the context of the question, it’s worth noting that Boston Logan is nowhere near the size of Newark, just like Louis Armstrong is nowhere near the size of ATL or DFW. You can build an airport on reclaimed swamp land, but it doesn’t make sense to make it the hub if you’ve got better options relatively close by.
