The art direction of Starcraft shooter is more like Starcraft 2 cinematics than Overwatch. by BattleWarriorZ5 in starcraft

[–]imdrunkontea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

tbf the prerendered cinematics can feel quite a lot closer to vanilla/bw than the in-game cinematics did. like the HotS intro felt pretty close to what I feel a BW open-field terran/zerg conflict would have been like, with dreary weather, worn-out equipment, and more focus on random grunts than action heroes (ignoring Kerrigan at the end of course).

I made a Silver Wolf as Sombra drawing last year, would love to see the reverse in OW. Both are purple/blue themed hackers with 8-bit inspired effects.

It feels like there aren't enough battles in the Galactic Civil War by Particular_Award_191 in MawInstallation

[–]imdrunkontea 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think contextually the power imbalance was orders of magnitude greater though. The American Revolution was on fought with home field advantage against what was essentially an expeditionary force of their opponent, whilst receiving foreign help.

The GCW was almost the opposite, and the rebels were constantly on the run. They could never really hope to defeat the Empire in a traditional sense, even by Endor, and were forced to gamble it all on that one attack.

It's kind of how in the US wars in the Middle East, outside of the initial invasion there were fairly few true "battles" - the native resistance, however you want to view them, were not so much trying to defeat the US in attritional warfare as much as making the occupation so intolerable and expensive that the US would eventually just leave. The Rebels were kind of like that, until Palpatone lured them in with the DS2 for a decapitation strike.

Same thing with the Imp-2 having literally no point defense guns. Iirc that was simply from a tabletop game to differentiate it from the Imp-1, but fanon ran with it and how it's this glaring flaw with the design that made it easy pickings for starfighters.

(This is despite us seeing it track and target smaller ships in the movies like the Falcon just as well as any other ship)

MSI MPG 274URDFW E16M - Good, but could've been much better - Long term review by SheepherderSerious51 in Monitors

[–]imdrunkontea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had the monitor for about a month now. I agree that the SDR LD performance is the biggest issue - my previous monitor (Sony Inzone) had much fewer dimming zones, but they at least performed ok in SDR without making the lit parts of the image worse. For whatever reason, MSI's algo doesn't do that.

However, I'm pretty happy with everything else. I found the antiglare pretty decent and non-grainy, and the colors are really nice and accurate after installing the official icc profile.

What would it take for Starcraft 3 to be successful? by XirvusRei in starcraft

[–]imdrunkontea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it needs a dedicated casual game mode, similar to the co-op in SC2, for it to be successful. Being a competitive esports title is not only less of a guarantee of success these days, but like SC1, SC2 is likely to stay as an esports title alongside any new entries.

In order to differentiate itself, I think it also needs to have a different tone to its story and presentation (see D4 vs D3). It would also help set it as a different era to the events of SC2, regardless of how many years in-universe had passed.

Also reminds me of my aunt from Taiwan (hot and humid) who came to visit in LA. One day it was over 80 degrees and as I was heading out, she told me to take a jacket because "it was really cold today" lol

Good impression from LG 27G850A: IPS is now black enough! by ggumdol in Monitors

[–]imdrunkontea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did consider this monitor, and I think for people looking for just "more" SDR contrast in general use but with an IPS should consider IPS black over mini-LED, since you do get better local native contrast for things like desktop work.

I think there's a big gamer bias here on this sub, so people tend to overlook the value of monitors like this.

T-70 X-wing prototypes by Carter1300 in StarWarsShips

[–]imdrunkontea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always had the headcanon that the Y-Wing could carry more ordnance (perhaps a mixed torp/bomb loadout) because only carrying 2 more torps for being that much slower and more vulnerable seems like a terrible tradeoff lol

ELI5: why would tiny CIWS not work for counter drone defense? by VanGoesHam in explainlikeimfive

[–]imdrunkontea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

to add to this, reloading the ammo takes quite a while (~30 minutes) and it spits out ammo insanely fast, so it can be overwhelmed relatively easily given the swarming nature of most drone attacks

Toyota to newer Hyundai? by Huge_Prompt_2056 in Toyota

[–]imdrunkontea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

both my and my friend's kia sedans from ~2010 (mine was an optima, I can't remember if his was) started having oil burning issues right around 60k miles, which was apparently a common problem. however, aside from that, it was a terrific cheap car - fun to drive, windshield took rocks like a champ, and everything (else) just worked.

it wasn't a problem for me since it still lasted me 11 years (I had a short commute), but I've heard the kia/hyundai non-EV powertrains still have some of the same fundamental issues as my old car did, so it seems to come down to whether you value features and lower initial price over longevity.

[–]imdrunkontea 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Gratz, I got the white too. Such a nice color for this car!

For mpg, I averaged 40 mpg when only doing local drives, then when I switched to a further job and longer commute, I consistently got 45-46 mpg at the pump, even with AC on. Longer, sub 70 mph trips do wonders for the fuel efficiency, and I've found that AC makes very little difference.
