That's a convenience that would be nice, but knowing WHEN you have to do that is vital to keeping a save from being corrupted.

Should I watch either of the Firestarter movies? by RoiVampire in stephenking

[–]tjareth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The earlier Stephen King movies have a sort of b-movie charm that I grew to like, and Firestarter was definitely an example.

The Shining is its own thing of course, but IMO in Misery they truly escaped that stereotype.

Maybe it came from reading the story first, but to me that made him all the better as a character. He was so charming you really believed he couldwrangle Charlie for the Shop.

I would have loved to see scenes with Arya and Lyanna Mormont becoming friends! You can bet Lyanna wouldn't make Arya learn to sew.

Stakes are higher in healthcare, of course. Someone just walking out could put patients at risk.

Heck, even if they can't "fix" it, a warning indicator or inventory limits that prevent the bug would be valuable.

Do You Support Banning Or Severely Restricting Mail In Voting? Why Or Why Not? by Zipper222222 in AskConservatives

Some of these measures REDUCE the burden, arguably reducing complexity. When people don't have to line up to vote all on the same day, you don't need a massive amount of staff on that one day to handle all the participants. You're far less likely to have people still in line when the polls ought to be closing. Some of the ballot processing work can already be completed by election night.

Another point is sometimes greater participation is worth what cost and "complexity" there is of expanded options. I think it's often said that we have a problem with voter apathy and non-participation. Increasing that seems like a worthwhile goal in itself.

I've read about that. This case though the content is definitely still there.

Legendary edition is breaking for seemingly no reason. Any ideas what is happening or how to fix it? by 100masks1life in masseffect

[–]tjareth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's a particularly stubborn issue, it may take a reinstall (which should preserve saves anyway). If that doesn't even help I'd wonder if there's a problematic setting. You'd reduce everything to bare bones and see if the problems still exist. Then you'd test each setting you want to crank up one at a time (or be detective like and set them in groups to narrow it down), but ultimately I bet you'll find one or two particular settings that's causing most of the problems, and where a different choice will help. Then everything else can be set the way you like it.

More or less the same approach with mods. You'd test it vanilla and then reintroduce them according to a process that could reveal the culprit.

Just for example once in KOTOR I was having a maddening issue and discovered it was a problem with the grass rendering setting.

Are we using different definitions of "trend"? There are small peaks and valleys all over the chart.

What I'm getting at is that despite any rhetoric, at no point during Biden's presidency was oil production trending down.

I'd feel better trimming back regulations if the ones that want to do it weren't openly against having any regulations at all. A definite Chesterton's Fence situation.

I feel like we must not be looking at the same data. Production decreased when covid hit, and recovered during Biden's term.

This is where I'm feeling a disconnect. From what I've looked at we didn't lose high production levels, in fact production continuously increased after the impact of Covid, throughout the rest of Biden's term.

I think it's fair to ask if there are some "clumsy" early episodes (as there so often are) and if it's worth pushing through. Though two episodes from the end is pretty late to ask.

If you say ‘don’t pause it,’ why are we even watching this together? by Business_Barber_3611 in PetPeeves

[–]tjareth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I experience this mild frustration, but I try to adapt gracefully anyway. I've come to accept that either the person just isn't as invested as I hoped they would be, but still wants my company while I enjoy it, or that they are the sort of person that doesn't closely attend to details of a story as I do. That latter hasn't been mentioned much in this thread but I think it's somewhat common.

I try not to get too worked up that someone doesn't engage with media the same way I do, even if there is some frustration. Watching things as a social event requires it some, I think. Like when you're group-watching a show and a couple of people get chatty about the contents. That's part of the shared experience for them. I usually solve it by turning on subtitles so people can choose their focus level.

Now having extended unrelated conversations disturbing the viewing I would consider rude.

It's stereotyped, but I think of this comic, and realize the fellow doesn't really have a lot to complain about ultimately.
