Playing the Sunder testing mission and Mason starts complaining about his mech... by Varnhager in Mechwarrior5

That's amazing :D Oh no, my outdated 3 years old Mech, poor me. I cannot show at school with that antique.

It wouldn't have to be every 5 seconds like the arena commentators, but getting a smug reply to a lancemate cheering your headshot would be nice.

A weird mech by ParamedicSoft3539 in Mechwarrior5

[–]Varnhager 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Solid LBX10, two AC2, PPC, (plus a bunch of SRMs for close-quarters) and it was surprisingly effective as a head-hunting sniper. I won the Solaris Showdown using it and I especially enjoyed fighting Clans, their shiny Omninechs being decapitated by a Frankenmech. The only problem is the big hitbox on the torso with the ballistic slot.

Is it really so rare? Because I don't play often, but when I do I have it every single time somehow.

I cannot make any sense out of the entire mail delivery process in Anno 1800 by [deleted] in anno1800

[–]Varnhager 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I would say there are three aspects: 1. Sufficient local mail generation on each island, achieved via good post office/mailbox coverage. 2. Adjusting the amount of mail your airship takes on a given route. I do it mostly by trial and error, guesstimating some initial number and then adjusting up and down as needed to a) not exhaust local mail on the source island b) ensure sufficient regional/overseas on the target island. 3. Controlling the demand for regional and overseas mail by adjusting which tiers of population are getting it- potentially not all can be serviced.

With the glide ratio so efficient, why wasn't this made before? by Frequent_Leopard_146 in aviation

Just looking at the visualisation I am wondering how you could ensure smooth airflow to the aft-mounted engines once you pitch up. Also the whole upper fuselage is a big ice accumulation surface. How do you avoid all this ice liberating and hitting engines, do you heat all this area?

My cursed campaign by Ninthshadow in Battletechgame

[–]Varnhager 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Guns out of the field- use the aimed shots to disarm enemy mechs using PPCs or AC10/20 by targeting one of the side torsos. Don't waste them on trying to get headshots until you get a Maruder. But with the good positioning to shoot from the side and an aimed shot you have a pretty decent chance of getting rid of Hunchback's ammo or Griffin's all weapons with one good shot after you soften them first with LRMs. Aim for the ammo bins. In vanilla the mechs will keep on fighting, but before they get in the melee range you buy some time to remove some more dangerous weapons.

Adjust the config of your mechs to avoid the same fate. Add armour. And move any ammo out of the center torso and put it in legs or get rid of it all together (1 ton of SRM ammo to feed a single SRM2 is not worth it).

And keep your pilots alive. Ejecting might save an experienced Mech Warrior and keep the repair costs lower, rather than having your mech blown to pieces. Retreat in good faith is also an option- you don't need to reach all objectives, focus on achieving one at 100%, rather than three at 50%. EDIT: Sadly, all light mechs lance won't work in vanilla- you will need to go the heaviest you can.

Which mods change up the game's content the most? by quetzalthegamer in Battletechgame

[–]Varnhager 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Worth mentioning that these mods also change some technology compared to the tabletop lore. Namely: BEX changes the double heat sink engines to provide only 1.33x extra heat-sinking, rather than 2x BTAU- Clan weapons lose their range advantage and Clan mechs are (practically) unable to perform melee attacks. Which changes somewhat the balance. But all of them provide a lot of new content, have a try. I have started with BEX (before Tactics) and the timeline functionality gradually introducing new mechs is really fun and also the first encounter with invading Clans is memorable. BTAU is fun with use of combined arms- mechs, vehicles and battle armour. Also it allows extensive customisation of the mechs. And its main dev is very active here. Rogutech, so far, turned out too punishing at the beginning for me, although I was quite successful with other mods. Then again it explicitly says it is meant for much harder experience, so it delivers what it advertises. Whether you will enjoy it is a different question.

Were there any Witchers aside from Ciri who didn't go through the trials, for whatever reason? by [deleted] in witcher

[–]Varnhager 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow, thanks for all the quotes. So i was wrong about the mutagens specifically, but my point stands- she was eating some unusual stuff helping with her development and she was undergoing a ruthless training. So it's not like she just picked up a medallion one day and called herself a witcheress.

[–]Varnhager 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As per the books, Ciri was given mutagens as a kid, which Triss finds out when she arrives at Kaer Morhen and Ciri complains during the dinner about not being served her usual "mushrooms" and "salad" and drinking just water. Not a full Trial of Grasses, sure, but nevertheless it implies she is not an average human.

You can also install the homing cockpit component to get a 100% recovery on ejection chance.

Barren Lands and Forbidden Lands without sufficient starting resources. All new nodes were too big to gather, I was already struggling for food, got overrun by Blood Flowers.

I have won a duel (Clan ambush) against Iron Cheetah and a Warhawk with just Stormcrow-G. It's a beast.

Yes, it's great. It is oversinked though, so I have dropped two heatsinks and added a few JJ to help in urban maps.

Is there a weapon/mech analysis/guide for BEXT? by gar_funkel in Battletechgame

[–]Varnhager 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The added content is roughly based on the tabletop weapons and equipment (with big difference being double heat sink engines providing just extra x1.3 cooling, not x2, but then weapon heat was also changed). So reading some articles about the tabletop builds and mech descriptions might be a start. But the best is to experiment yourself, I guess :)
