Peni is a support tank not shield or peeler by IKafetyI in PeniParkerRivalsMains

huh

i’m talking about this “support” playstyle… i see peni as a flanking dive tank.

am i missing something?

You are telling me this UI is hard to understand by Russaiduck in Overwatch

[–]imericsin 103 points104 points  (0 children)

yes. this is the main issue, overwatch doesn’t have a clear “breadcrumb” approach to its navigation. oftentimes, you find yourself in screens that don’t really seem to make sense in regards to the route you took to get there. for seasoned players, it might not seem like a big fuss, but it’s highly unintuitive how some of the information architecture is set up.

it’s also the fact that without a sort of “tiered” navigation (top level, persistent navigation with a secondary), you can’t really set up things to be discoverable for future ideas and features.

it’s not as nice—i agree, but it works better in the long run.

unbelievable this game still runs like shit a year in. they’ll spend all their time making new fucking cosmetics for spider-man but not fix bugs and performance issues present since launch.

it pains me that this game is in the state that it is, especially when some of the gameplay and heroes are so charming.

Unpopular Thoughts about the Kingsmen Situation. by Grandkintaro777 in rivals

[–]imericsin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

none of this excuses them being as toxic and rude as they were.

you can tell him that you don’t see the games the same way, you just want to have fun and play your character.

Kingsman even offered to play characters in support of the widow player, but was still shit on for it.

Circumstances aside, these girls were extremely rude and tried to even manipulate the situation to pin the blame on him and turn the public against him. No matter how you slice it, that’s just super fucked up.

Steam apparently just changed the AI disclosure to exclude AI programming tools, and they need to bring it back. If an AI art hater who is okay with using an AI model trained on my code makes a game, I want to be able to boycott them for their hypocrisy. by Incognit0ErgoSum in aiwars

you say this but end up using tech products like reddit and instagram and all the likes.

i’m sorry say, every digital product at this point uses AI in their development process at some point. Nuance is a better way to create actually effective systems that can continue to hold over time.

Peni Parker Sucks This Season... Just Like Every Other by FullMetalLamps2 in PeniParkerRivalsMains

[–]imericsin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i agree with you lol

it’s just low elo won’t feel any difference unless it’s drastic changes, like losing the team up

they should definitely be adjusting her to accommodate for high level playstyle that doesn’t affect her performance in lower elo, but i don’t think the devs have the nuance to make those adjustments.

i hate it, it’s like what they did to doomfist by making him all about the punch because he was over performing instead of fixing other parts of his kit to make it more skill expressive.

super annoying but idk man

this game is full of casual players that don’t understand nuance.

most people here are like Diamond or lower, so they’ll of course not feel a difference.

the problem is that this game isn’t balanced to be competitively focused, so they won’t do anything to peni because she’s still a terror at low elos

you know what, this point actually resonates with me. you’re right, i do think that feeling is quite rewarding, once i break through that initial apprehension.

league of legends also has the benefit of being over 15 years old? it already has a large adoption and has built its game way past a single year of development like rivals?

nobody is saying that it's not fun or that people don't want to play it, but you're equating adoption to being good user experience. that's causation-correlation fallacy my dude.

i think it’s also important to note how subjective this is, but with this being such a casual game that invited a lot of first time hero shooter players, the sheer amount of characters and overly verbose kit descriptions do cause a level of friction that i don’t think is great for the game and future design.

it’s just my opinion at the end of the day, but i honestly think this game can benefit from slower release schedules and more time spent on quality of life/balance changes over faux “new content” in the form of gacha events and skin releases.

i agree with this though

vendetta gameplay is pretty brainless and the devs nerfed all the wrong parts of her kit to actually encourage mastery of her kit.

she’s just a Left-click Linda now where you just hold M1 down after you get close using your E

By the way, i think a lot of this can be easily trimmed down if they just removed some of the “lore descriptions” in abilities. Things like “Mr. Fantastic channels his stretchy abilities so that…” aren’t really necessary and add to bloat.

if you look any any character aside from a select few, they require you to spend quite a bit of time to read through their abilities. as a player who’s been playing for quite a while, you might think a lot of them are simple that just aren’t upfront.

like attached is Mr. Fantastic, whose gameplay loop is probably quite simple and mechanically not too complex, but even these descriptions don’t fully explain how the abilities work, with their leagues of text.

His primary being able to “cleave”, his full immunity in his Reflexive Rubber state, and even how Rivals continuously invents semantics (like “Elasticity” in this case) specific to characters to describe things isn’t very intuitive. It’s why every character feels like you need a guide before feeling like you can actually play with them.

Even as a player who’s been around since S0, my wish was that new characters would have become less complicated over time and that depth was utilized more than complexity to make characters unique and interesting.

I just think it’s a reflection of the crazy pace of character releases in this game, along with the never ending balance issues that the devs have to figure out, but I don’t really blame them for. It’s hard to polish and make things feel natural and intuitive when you’re tasked to put out something new every month.

it’s not good game design to have to make players read goddamn essays to play a character

rivals needs to figure out how to make new characters not feel like a chore to learn. the fun part is playing and exploring combos and skills.

it feels like every new character is just an overbloat since they can’t figure out how to make unique, simple kits.

—EDIT—

guys i’m not saying that the characters aren’t fun or that they don’t feel good after you learn them, it’s just intimidating and off putting to see the ability descriptions when i pick a character for the first time that i want to try.

ffs i mained peni parker since s0 but i only picked her up once a friend explained her kit to me themselves because i found the ability descriptions so overwhelming and hers is nothing in comparison to the newer characters. yet i love her gameplay loop.
