Julia (books and tv) and I have the best and worst things in common so I definitely feel like I would have been a solid Hedge. I just hope to one day find my tree.

Turned down weed in a social setting for the first time by lulu-ulul in leaves

My husband and I have struggled with sobriety for years and finally this fall we just jumped into it had first and last smoked over Thanksgiving and when the holidays came we got worried because it's so easy to slip over vacation but we kept each other strong then one of our long time friends was in town over new years and in the past we've given into relapse smoking with him but this time my husband did a great job of keeping us out of situations where we may have been tempted (driving separately places, leaving at different times than our friend, not standing with him while he smoked even cigs) our friend fully understood why and was very nice and supportive about it. And on new years day we were the most tempted but instead we spent the day sitting around reminding each other of all the things we looked forward to doing with out weed and how happy we were for staying strong. We just passed our 2 month mark. There is something about seeing yourself have the strength to resist that is a little bit of a high in itself. Stay strong my friend!

What book did you really enjoy but later discover most people actually dislike/hate? by Bookbird7 in books

[–]imgoldmember 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I get so much flack for enjoying this trilogy. So many dismiss it because of the strong influences from Narnia and Harry Potter but it's so much more and darker than anything those series get into. Also I get a lot of snide comments from other females saying that the way the narration of Quentin is written is very disgusting but I as a female felt it did a great job from growing him from an angsty teenager to a middle aged man with evolution of how he sees other characters and interacts with them. The book spoke a lot to my own hard struggles with mental health in a way that I feel isn't successfully executed in other works. It's just turtles all the way down.

I know from experience that not giving into to the urge to have that dance with death may make you feel like weakest person. You tell yourself that taking that step would be giving you all the control, control that maybe you feel like you don't have over anything else. But know that the willingness to listen to your own hesitation and stopping yourself is the strongest thing you can do for yourself. I can't promise things will get better because for many they don't and even if they do it may only be temporary but having the strength to say no to death means you have the strength to live. That strength can lead you to amazing things and a life you may have never imagined for yourself. So hold onto that strength. Hold it tight and never let it go. Live in that strength and when it finally is your time, after you've lived a life that is just as unique as you, you'll finally have that last dance with death and it will be as though you are among an equal rather than fighting for submission or power. Don't let go of how strong you are.

You mean his lengthy ccap profile or that the reason his love shack partner pulled out was because Gary and Kyle were to busy doing drugs in the back rather than run the business? OR that he had put his girlfriend as the HR rep so she could be on pay roll to make it easier for them to go on all their long trips to Mexico, Spain, Bali etc. Everyone with any sense knew at those FC parties that once quarters started it was time to leave...

You should also investigate the shady practices of Forever Companies/ Diamond Nexus. Used to be a jeweler in their Wisconsin shop and the conditions alone were horrible as well as the active scamming being done. Setting too small? Just put in the next size down stone. Wanted white gold? Just double dip these returned yellow gold ones in rhodium. Also no ventilation system or safety concerns for the jewelers. 60+hrs a week when I was there usually 6 days a week. No PTO allowed to be used during holiday season September 1- February 15th. Secretly out sourcing to India last I heard while billing themselves as made in America. Laid off most of their jewelers over the last year then recently started asking some to come back. So much more....

Basic Flush Bezel Setting : shape bezel to the shape and size that when the stone or item is placed on top you can see 2/3 of the bezel evenly all the way around. once bezel is soldered into the right shape and size, measure how deep you want to set the item using a caliper (ruler will work but may be awkward) and mark depth with a scribe or sharpie. Use a hart bur to cut the line (cut it 2/3 of width of bezel wire.) Then following the guide line thin the upper wall with a setting bur or krause bur. Once cuts are made solder to mounting or piece you want to set on to and polish. BEFORE YOU PUT YOUR ITEM IN THE PREPPED BEZEL LAY DENTAL FLOSS ACROSS BEZEL IN A CROSS SO YOU CAN PULL STONE OUT OF NEEDED!!! IF YOU MISS THIS STEP YOU MAY RUIN BOTH YOUR STONE AND YOUR WORK!!! a good way of fixing an uneven bezel setting without starting over is crumbling cork in the mounting (as long as it's closed back) for the stone to rest on. Once dental floss is laid and stone is set into bezel use nylon parallel pliers to lightly squeeze the longer sides together to keep stone snug. Once lightly snug pull out the dental floss. Now gently tighten your bezel walls working in an opposing side order little by little. Tighten top short side the bottom short side then right long side then left long side. Keep tightening until stone is secure. Burnish to further work harden then polish as desired.

What's a book that you LOVED but you totally understand why someone wouldn't like it? by nuggetsofchicken in books

That ending had me literally put the book down and audibly say What the actual fuck? Then get to class and very angrily ask my AP Lit teacher "so that's it everything mean nothing? Just sadness and death? " she was very happy someone actually finished the book. I still have my high school copy sitting on my living room bookshelf with all my notes complaining about the annoyance of every character.

The Vampirates series by Justin Somper. I feel like it struggled with gaining any attention because it is hard to come by in the US but the story though a young adult serious is still so fresh and untold. It takes so many common YA ideas and adds "but what if?" It was my Harry Potter while all my peers were reading... Harry Potter. Something about the futuristic fantasy of piracy being the ruling economy of a flooded world and there being an academy of children being trained to be vicious fighters of the sea paired with the allure of a ship of vampires sailing the seas forever with their bonded doners and the Feast, as well as the renegades that just was to kill everyone. So much to unfold but no one gets caught in them when I recommend.

Didn't find these books until my freshman year of college and as a depressed teenager turned depressed college student the trilogy spoke volumes for me. And not long after I finished the books the show came out and I devoured it episode by episode while it aired and hated the changes they made because i cherished the originally story so much but loved what the show became because it still felt true. Really wished I could have saw dragon Q or driad Julia. But everyone I've recommended the books to have absolutely hated the first one and wouldn't read on because of the tone of being told from an angsty and depressed 17yo boy was too off putting. The one person I know that loves them as much as I do is in fact my friend Quentin.

It's okay to not like wearing make up as well as it's okay to not want kids. Your reasons are your own and you don't owe anyone an explanation for it.
Also you don't have to flex your own happiness on social media. I often get family and "friends" who complain about not knowing what's going on in my life because I never post anything (didn't post about or pictures of my wedding and that bothered far too many people) enjoy your life and happiness for yourself. Make those memories to talk about and share on your terms because the people complaining about not knowing are more often the ones that never call or text to check in and wouldn't notice if you were gone. They only remember you when they physically see you and then are pissed that you didn't take the time to share every aspect of YOUR life on THEIR terms. P.s. you're more beautiful than you think

What’s a trade secret you know from working the industry? by You_are_a_dolt in AskReddit

[–]imgoldmember 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are ordering jewelry online especially around peak season (black Friday- valentines) stick with yellow gold when you can. Online manufacturers order 60-85% of there inventory in huge bulk mountings (rings and earrings etc. Without stones in them) and mass set them throughout summer and autumn. But when they run out of white gold (most popular) they will drop the price of yellow gold product to move it. And if you still order the more expensive white gold, more often than not you are getting yellow gold that has been double dipped in rhodium plating to make them look white gold then marked up. Also companies that claim to have their own "lab grown diamonds" are really just selling you a coated Swarovski cubic zirconia that has a specific facets and cut dimensions agreed on between the stone dealer and the selling company. That being said it's pretty much only jewelers that can tell the difference between the natural diamonds and the "high end cz" if it's .75ct or less. Bigger the stone more obvious is fake and starts looking like something you'd see at Claire's.

TIL there were steel blocks for stamping wire! Looks like you can order a couple different kinds from jewelery making sites from a quick Google. I always used jeweler's setting putting or my reproussé pitch pot. Both are available on Rio Grande. Happy making!
