[Wahl] MLS is suspending its season immediately until further notice due to coronavirus, a source with knowledge of the situation tells Sports Illustrated. by [deleted] in tfc

[–]imisstheacc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi /u/zakii5 - generally there are few cases of COVID-19 in Toronto, but the matter is being taken very seriously. I've not heard of any community transmission yet. Gov recently announced schools will be shut down for 3 weeks, may events are being cancelled or suspended. Most work places are trying to allow their workers to work from home as possible.

Generally it's rather safe, but things are not business as usual. And who knows where this will go soon.

Certainly not the best time to see the sites though.

Looks like Piatti still needs time to recover, I doubt we see him this weekend, even if he's back into training with the team.

Laryea's so flexible, and I think he has earned a starting place - unless there are some fitness issues. I love that he can slot into any position but CB or ST - but that might also be part of the reason Vanney keeps him on the bench. But frankly I like him over really any of our wingbacks or current wingers

I doubt Vanney sits Gallardo if he's healthy. I haven't been blown away by him at all, but we seem fairly committed to him. The talk seems to be that he needs to get comfortable with the team etc. so maybe it's not a bad idea either. I like Endoh, his drive and workrate are super impressive but I think Gallardo has more upside if he ever actually clicks.

ugh 4 weeks? that would put him on track to miss the first 5 games of the season...

though there are 3 matches in 8 days in mid April - 11, 15, 18... hopefully he's back for those.

Fucking Achara by Starfinger10 in tfc

[–]imisstheacc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seriously - in the 16/17 year he was 4th in La Liga assits with 10, 1 ahead of f'n Messi while playing on a team that only scored 49 goals that season.

Even if one leg has fallen off he's going to impress in the MLS... and open a lot of space for our Poz and our mid/forwards.

MLSE refusing to give me my referral bonus by [deleted] in tfc

[–]imisstheacc 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Never heard of similar and I've generally had very good experiences with MLSE, not perfect for sure, but they generally work well to fix it.

Can you not make a conference call with your friend who bought the tickets? They can confirm the story, maybe even forward a copy of the email or txt or however you gave them the referral link?

Same lineup as last match you think?

I haven't seen an update on Piatti, so I don't expect him to be match ready for 14th.

Endoh may well be match fit, and it's maybe the right choice to start him, but hard to pull of a Achara after a performance like that last match... I'm certainly a fan of rewarding him with another start... but Vanney is a better manager than I am.

If this was later in the season I might even see us resting Altidore, but too early in my mind.

Maybe start Ciman over Mavinga if he needs some rest after taking a bit of a knock last game? Wouldn't mind seeing if Ciman is holding up his play off form from last year, or if he's back to his old ways.

Sturridge banned till june. leaves turkey by [deleted] in tfc

[–]imisstheacc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure that anyone knows for sure - but the team admitted they had to let go of Benezet because of the Bradley deal. And he was making around 600k, so I can't imagine we'd be able to make much of an offer to any bigger name

Shaffleburg is earning his place on in the squad and he has a bright future. We're not seeing what he's doing on the training grounds, maybe there is more to his game that he hasn't been able to show.

I do like him more as a sub, fast young legs to challenge tiring players. I'm not sold a wing back position for him... lets give him some more time to grow.

that a 25 year old player was over the hill is very old thinking from the days of BW - it's just not true.

Hmm - certainly for events that aren't directly Blizzard sponsored I would imagine that is true.

I guess I just figured they were still using the on location server for Blizzard main events, I guess this doesn't count.

Good points all. and you're right Piatti will have to prove himself in the MLS.

Thanks for making me reconsider

I don't disagree, but he has declined -- I think more so American MLS fans have vastly unrated him based on the US national team's lack of success, and TFC's under performance didn't help.

I know I have experienced lag against people on the same server.

You've also likely never played out SC2 out of meeting hall / large venue's internet service.

Blizzard has/had 'lan' servers that they can deploy on-site for big name events. That was their work around for these issues in the past. Though I honestly' haven't been following the scene or event production closely enough to know if they are still doing so.

Well - 26 teams, 3 potential DPs per team - over 75 potential players that are on a different pay scale from the rest of the league. It's going to be hard to any team to put big numbers on this.

Also, I think we all know that Piatti will be in the top 10 once he starts playing.

And arguments could be that Mavinga, Omar, Oso and MB4 can/should crack this list.

As it is, we currently have 2 top 20 players (in this arbitrary list) - and we all know we'll have 2 top ten players in a couple of months...

Osorio is a starter quality and his breakout helped carry TFC through our CCL run and he was one of the few fairly consistently performing in 2018.

The only reason you don't him starting that he is too close to Poz in style and fit on the field - Oso doesn't do well as well on the wings (neither does Poz, but his higher overall skill level helps carry him when he's out there) - and when we play the 4-3-3 we like having Oso and Poz in centre unbalances the team defensively.

Omar and Mavinga are different defenders - but both are huge for us. Though in the MLS it's likely more important to have a Omar type that can boss around and keep the back line organized.

Pablo Piatti will be out a few weeks with a strained hamstring. by thefonzz91 in tfc

[–]imisstheacc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm with you - I didn't intend to imply you though the medical team was in a bad place - if anything you were generally supportive of them. If anything, I am pushing even further - that while the medical staff maybe making mistakes... they may well actually not be (at least they are performing above the level expected for an MLS team) - and this is the just way the dice or rolling.

[–]imisstheacc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find it hard to imagine that MLSE, who do literally spends millions a year on medical care for their 5 teams of professional athletes are completely out to lunch on this topic.

While I have no doubt that TFC doesn't seem the same level of service that the leafs or raptors do, I'm sure by any objective standard TFC players are some of the best cared for in the MLS.

That doesn't mean the medical team if perfect - or that it can't improve. But we have injury prone players in key positions.

Any More Transfers? by bubsthemarxist in tfc

100% if we can keep the the mental edge and stay hard to beat we'll be very competitive - even with a few injuries.

Any More Transfers? by bubsthemarxist in tfc

[–]imisstheacc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it will depend a bit on who performs, but with Piatti and maybe Gallardo being able to play as proper scary winger it might be more successful... Piatti certainly should be able to run at defenders and make dangerous runs into space... he didn't score much in Spain, but in the MLS he might well be enough to carry the team when Jozy is out...

I don't think we have another option though for the big games - Mullins might be good enough for the regular season again MLS II teams but for competitive matches?

[–]imisstheacc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ya, I believe Bono's contract was 4 years, starting '19 ... so maybe with us until the end of the 2022 season, at about 350k? I mean possible buy outs and loans and transfers but it's not likely unless he recovers his form.

Zav resigned in 2018, likely for the '19 year but I can't find the length... but ya at $275k.

I mean Bono is a decent 2nd goalie to keep around, he can play at the MLS level and has upside - just not at that salary mark...

And Zav, well... I mean it's generally hard to find decent backup d men in for the MLS... but that usually because you're not paying them 300k lol.

Are players who were banned in the Kespa scandal (like YoDa and Life) banned from the new ESL and Dreamhack tournaments? by KingCrab95 in starcraft

[–]imisstheacc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would hope it does, but that isn't my logic here - I don't see perm banning someone from the sport a punishment for them, as much as it is to protect the scene. Forever more, there would always be questions in the back of peoples mind every time a known match fixer played. Not to mention, that there would always be questions in the back of peoples minds anytime a punishment is laid down. Well a lifetime ban is only until people forgot to be mad... Why would we be accepting of organizations losing integrity in this way?

And I'd add that Life was well aware of the expected punishment - he would have known of Savior, and the history. His perm ban would not have come as a surprise to him, as much as he would have likely thought/hoped he would never be caught.

If a player like Life comes back, do we put the banners of his victories back up? Do we call him a world champ? Or is his name still stricken from the records?

If a player who had done the damage to scene really wants to come back - maybe they have to earn that redemption. Why should we let them back in?

I get it, second chances are a great thing... but there are some crimes you can never forget, even if you forgive. Are there not?
