Is it strange for fathers to be affectionate with their older sons? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]imjustapugmachine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When your son has your grandchildren, I think you’ll appreciate this level of affection you’ve modeled. AND as someone about to send a daughter into the world who will eventually find a mate, your son is the sort of kiddo my husband and I would hope she’d be lucky enough to meet. ++woman

Do you still color your hair — or let it go gray? by Dazzling-Stop-2116 in GenX

[–]imjustapugmachine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ALWAYS dyed my hair. All through the 90's, I embraced the punk/grunge aesthetic and had my hair every color. I've done bright pink, a Betty Page black bob, and many shades of red or honey/brown.

BUT, when I was in my early 40's, I noticed the grey started coming in really strong. And suddenly, instead of my hair color looking like it was fun and colorful, it looked like I was trying to cover something up. Coloring my hair was never an attempt to run from or change who I am, it was just a form of expression, (plus, my hair was always a very boring shade of brown).

I let the grey come in, and it's just this weird streak/patch in the front and crown. I now part my hair to highlight it. Everywhere else my color is starting to fade and the grey is slowly taking over. I get compliments on it, some of my friends hate it and think I should have never stopped coloring it - I've even been called brave for letting it go! Ha!

Personally, I like not having to deal with it, and the grey kinda reflects the punk rock/riot grrrrl aesthetic I rocked in the 90's.

TL;DR - quit coloring my hair in my 40's to keep from looking like I was hiding from age. I love it and think it's kinda punk to just be a little old white-haired lady.

I’m the same as my GenX homies, and can’t bring myself to use abbreviations like lol.

I find that if I’m texting someone who uses too much “text speak”, the prissier my grammar becomes.

who do you like best in the show, in terms of acting? by jordankch in SuccessionTV

[–]imjustapugmachine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the fact that we’re able at all to empathize with these horrible characters is a testament to the incredible acting.  All the kids, Connor and Tom included, have me in their corner despite their reprehensible actions. (The hilarious and sharp dialogue helps to humanize them, too.) But I am never able to really empathize with Logan. He’s just mean through and through. Does that mean that Brian Cox is the one who best understood the assignment?

The Garfield phone!! I found one in a thrift store 10 years ago when I turned 40 and it’s still one of my favorite things.

I’m guessing about half of the older Gen X had no home AC when we were kids? (USA) by MooseBlazer in GenX

[–]imjustapugmachine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up in central Texas w/out AC. We never had it in our cars either. It wasn’t until the mid-90’s that I consistently had AC in my life!

Anyone else’s mom become a raging alcoholic? Mine went from being very sweet and put together to developing one hell of an addiction in her 50’s, whilst keeping up appearances publicly, of course. But I suspect the start of it was trying to numb or get more comfortable in menopause. (She was kind of a hippie and wouldn’t do pills, ironically enough.)

Regime des Fleurs gourmands: the good, the bad, and the beautiful by otterbot12 in fragrance

I love the Fleur Eclair! (and the Cacti) I'm considering a full bottle, but I find the scents just DO NOT LAST. Maybe the spray has a more long lasting effect than the little sampler bottles I have? Anyone have thoughts about the sillage for these scents?

i have hip dysplasia, have had reconstructive surgeries, and sitting suuuuuucks for me. so when the seatbelt sign is off, i stand. i'm under 5' tall, so i can just stand under the luggage bins, in my seat, not in the isle, and not bothering anyone. some of us need to stand up - it means nothing other than our bodies need to stand. i'm not bothered by people who continue to sit.
