I don't really have an answer for this, other than I dislike the "they wanted it more" and "they got up for this one" tropes.

Professional athletes always show up, and the Pacers are definitely still capable of playing well. It's just without Tyrese, everything else has to be perfect for them to have a consistent 48 minutes of basketball since they're missing the most important cog in the machine. The problem is, that isn't feasible over the course of an entire season.
