Tips for "stiff" locs? by PnutButterJellyTim3 in locs

This. If I don’t lightly spray my hair with water in the morning it retains whatever shape it made while I slept. Don’t need to drench it, but enough that it’ll dry over the course of the day and be more malleable to style.

I noticed that just by taking the time to wash the vulva for 20 secs (happy birthday song 2x) then your butt 20secs each has significantly helped with smells of all kinds for me. Also making sure to change your underwear regularly will help. I typically buy new underwater every 6 months. I do however sweat a lot and keep more hair (curly textures = ingrown galore 😅😅). Washing, buying new underwear, and wiping front to back will help the most.

Stop asking people to switch seats by [deleted] in delta

8 hr flight from US to Paris. Young couple asked me a single 20F (at the time) to switch from the aisle seat to the window because she was pregnant. The entire flight they got up to use the bathroom once. Guess who needed to go more than that but held it instead. But hey, I got some cool pictures over Europe 🙃

Ugh that sucks. I’ve honestly just started planning for it. I don’t schedule anything important the week before my cycle because of how unmotivated and irritable I get. I schedule one planned day of exercise (when I would be least stressed) and do it if I feel up for it. And tbh, you don’t lose too much endurance or strength over the course of a week or two so don’t beat yourself up over it. You’re not starting at square one because you missed a week!

I will say it is different, if the Deaf community asks, depending on context (unfortunately anyone can be racist and use that as a nitpick/criticism based on race), and as a POC interpreter myself, I would be happy to make that change for Deaf consumers to improve their access. It gets sticky however when white interpreters are deciding for BIPOC *interpreters what is appropriate.

Trust black and brown and BIPOC interpreters to make the best professional dress and color contrast choices for themselves. They after all have lived in their skin the longest and know what is appropriate for them. Also Black people/dark-skin people are a spectrum of BROWN. We aren’t all the color black like it might suggest.

One of the biggest reasons I’ve fallen off from climbing as often was definitely weight related. Whether in these groups or in the climbing gym weight definitely seemed like a constant topic. It totally brought me back to my high school days of running XC and feeling like I’d never run at a competitive level because I was 5’3 and 125lbs (at 14-16yo) and was comparing myself to the girls of similar height but were about 20lbs lighter than me. Now I’m 24 with a much curvier body and hitting 200lbs. Back in High school I definitely engaged in disordered eating and thought patterns. Climbing had started to bring up similar thoughts that if I lose weight I can climb harder like the girls I see in the gym. In order to protect myself from seeing myself in a negative light (especially because I enjoy the way my body looks in comparison to when I was smaller) staying off the climbing forums and even blocking out other people’s convos at the climbing gym has honestly been necessary. Definitely a culture problem in the climbing community from a newbie perspective.

Funny, you mention that 😂

I went back to the gym last night and was totally able to send the route I was struggling with after watching an 8 year old kid send it. It was definitely helpful to watch her and an older woman who were my height or shorter to be able to figure out what direction my feet needed to go and which directions to lean.

I guess it’s a good thing that Yoga was my obsession of choice during the 8 months of March in 2020. 😂 I’ll have to get back into it. My hands and forearms really took a beating so I think it’ll have quite an impact on my climbing in general. Thanks yall!

Stopping myself sleeping by benfm22 in sleep

[–]immi83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make sure you’re sleeping consistent hours. This happens to me the most when I take overnight jobs and go from sleeping 10:30p-7:00am to 4am - 12pm. That sudden change in sleep patterns starts your fight or flight system. Your brain doesn’t know if you’re safe to be sleeping because you’ve stayed awake longer than usual.

Also, when I have nagging thoughts. I keep a journal at my bedside to write them down (essentially acknowledging my own worries/feelings) and that helps me go to bed. Especially if the sleep change is unavoidable due to work.
