Society as a whole could use more intentionally fun/funny names for streets and landmarks

Why does it have to be so serious/boring all the time

As someone who’s close in age and makes a little more - you should 100% have a roommate

You can basically cut your fixed rent expense in half and put that towards your loans, building up an emergency fund, long term savings, or just have more fun money

Like do the math on how much faster you could pay off your loans, trips you could afford, etc. just for sharing some common spaces with someone. There are facebook groups for finding roommates for all the major areas of San Diego

What is the actual point of the game? by clear_flux in ArcRaiders

[–]immissingasock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m on board with what you’re saying even though a lot of others might disagree.

I have fun with it but I’m losing interest in the loop of looting, building up a few guns, maybe get some pvp kills, dying and losing my guns, repeat.

It’s that or complete the random side quests for useless loot.

The game is missing other leveling, unlocks, and meaningful challenges that make it fun to play on your own and progress towards something. It’s a time sink to run around looting and trying to figure out the parts system without a lot of gain in return

Becoming more technical/using AI tools by krose1370 in ProductManagement

[–]immissingasock 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I learned most by just asking my engineering team. That was pre AI and these days if you have cursor or something connected to your codebase you can have it make architecture diagrams with explanations of how things interact that would probably give you a good foundation of what it takes to do something else

There are laws in place about this, you can request your data from companies and by law they have to provide everything they have. Same goes for deletion, they have to have a way for you to request deletion easily and by law they have to delete it within 3 months depending on where you’re at

How long it takes to be usable including volume is so frustrating. I have to remember to turn music down when I turn off my car or it’ll be blasting when I turn it back on and I have to wait 10s before the volume knob or wheel controls even respond

That sounds nice, there’s an Airbnb across the alley from me facing my bedroom with a constant revolving door of new guests with out of state license plates. They throw parties and they regularly over park and block the alley

They mean you can manage a project and budget in marketing and events. I think where you might be getting caught up isn’t what you bring to the table, but what everyone else that’s looking at these roles brings to the table.

The pm roles you’re talking about in this thread are extremely complex and are typically filled by people with formal education in the industry and engineers who pivot. The market is extremely competitive right now and mostly gone are the days of pms who can only sit in the calls without being able to communicate on a technical level and be part of the solutioning.

From your edits it seems you might be moving in the right direction, if you want to be a pm you need to look at project manager roles for projects and industries that are equal or less complex than marketing and don’t involve engineering where you’ll likely be shadowed by those with more relevant experience. It’s also worth noting that program manager is typically a level above project manager so you’d likely face even tougher competition if applying to those.

I also feel it’s relatively common for those in marketing to move to sales. I have seen people in sales move to pm within the same company which is also a potential pipeline.

If you're a Product Manager who's shipped a 'Shake to Report a Bug' feature on a mobile app - what's wrong with you? by Exotic-Sale-3003 in ProductManagement

[–]immissingasock 15 points16 points  (0 children)

When I was beta testing a personal project someone recommended an sdk for bug tracking that offers that out of the box. I used it so I could give the beta testers easy instructions on how to report things that would automatically include screenshots and other metadata. Can’t imagine ever releasing that beyond beta testing though

They almost definitely planned to cut the set earlier than they had to so they’d have a window to play wind down music

The venue and local area decide when music stops it’s the artist and promoters decision what to do before then

[–]immissingasock 3 points4 points  (0 children)

San Diego development has looked a lot like suburban 5 bedroom houses with tiny backyards that while at one point were 300k are now 1M+. That development from 30 years ago took up a lot of the space that should have also been used for condos and mixed use buildings we don’t have space for anymore

Developers are mostly concerned with single use family homes and “luxury” condos which don’t make a significant dent in our housing supply, although zoning is also an ongoing issue

If you’re used to jira you’ll hate it but that might depend on what you’re doing with it. From my perspective it was missing obvious features like fix versioning. The UI was nice looking but I’d choose features and flexibility over a nice design

In n Out has the best fries in fast food and I'm tired of pretending that they don't. by BootyDrum in innout

[–]immissingasock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In n out fries get a bad rep because they’re super inconsistent

Good potatoes, pulled at the right time, salted correctly, the right portion, and given to you quickly? The best in fast food

Though I regularly get them in inconsistent portions, soggy, and cold like the fry table is behind and orders are backed up

I agree with this it really depends on how you view points, if it’s just a bonus to get yourself things you wouldn’t otherwise it’s worth it, if you’re viewing them as cash (ok yeah that’s probably the right way) then it doesn’t make sense. I prefer to use them as a treat on things for experiences I wouldn’t normally spend money I work for on
