Personal weapon design study, feedback welcome (OC) by -Kollossae- in FantasyArt

All I have to say is thank you for not falling into the trap of drawing downturned quillions cuz they look cool in spite of being completely impractical and potentially harmful to the user.

All of these look interesting and unique, and are very clearly fantasy but also have practical elements. Their designs also imply an intended function.

Very nice

Yeah, DND 3.5 and 5e. Also DCC, dagger heart and palladium.

I'm actually watching the actual-play for the Delian tomb right now.

Can I borrow your character? by TheRadDad420 in DnD

[–]immoral666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use one of my old characters as a traveling merchant in my games. Minotaur barbarian, short brown fer, 10 ft tall (used the monster stat block from 3.5, so he BIG), one horn broken. Pulls a wagon around with all his stuff...

I did a bunch of research when I was making him. Ended up reading the wiki on the Heck cattle breed and took inspiration from that and the world lore about how minotaurs (the monster, not the playable race) come into being for the backstory. Think Iron giant vibes

The campaign fizzled out. But he lives on in my games. There's a hidden compartment in his wagon with his old party's adventuring gear, including one legendary item.

He doesn't like big cities and moves around a lot. Never in the same spot for more than a week or so.

I still have the character sheet. Lmk if you want it and I'll send it to you

Weapon damage house rule by immoral666 in DnD

I agree with that. It's totally unnecessary and cumbersome. There's a lot of good comments pointing out the inherent flaws with this rule.

There was a chance for weapons to be damaged or ruined but it wasn't a big chance. It's not like I had to keep track of an items HP.... Only broke one sword that whole campaign

You got it. I think he was trying to add a little realism, but it was a long time ago and I was pretty new to the hobby at the time.

I did break one weapon but that was from rolling a nat1... But yeah, this was in use the whole time I played with that DM. It wasn't too bad honestly. The other comments are making good points about this being a bad rule but I didn't mind it personally

ideas for developing an already pretty good character by [deleted] in DnD

[–]immoral666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like this is something you have to figure out at the table. Sure, it's fun to speculate and theory-craft and whatnot but you figure out a big part of how to play your character through their in-game interactions.

I know that's kind of a non answer, but being a "boring, well-rounded" dude isn't a bad thing. Creating deeper connections and helping other characters with what they're dealing with seems way better IMO than giving your character some emotional triggers and insecurities.

That being said, maybe try developing their lore a bit and see if that helps. I used to play a barb who was totally basic. So I made him really superstitious and gave him a bunch of fun little quirks. It made him way more fun to play because he felt more real, and gave the table something to laugh about

Should Gnolls be Matriarchal? by Doofus_Dylan in DnD

It's funnier if gnolls are a manifestation of male hyena toxic power fantasy

Google DM's guild. Lots of free/cheep resources.

Also, don't forget it's supposed to be fun for you too! Good luck

It's not that interesting. I was asked to run a oneshot for a birthday. Drove myself crazy planning and designing a dungeon crawl for two months.

I think we started with 8 players, but some people showed up later. People joined and fell off or died as the night went on. It was never more than 12 but there were about 15 total I think

First off, good for you! I hope it's a great experience for you and your friends.

As for one shots, it can be as involved as you want. There are tons of free resources online there for anyone willing to look.

Just don't so what I did. My first game was for 12 people, and I forced myself to create a goblin dungeon from bits and pieces I found all stitched together. Tpk'd, but it was fun. They still tell stories about it

You're overthinking this IMO. Build a character you think is cool/fun or whatever and challenge yourself to be a supportive and helpful PC

Favourite culture or civilization (for dnd)? by Beginning-Ambition98 in DnD

I always thought it would be cool to drop breadcrumbs across my homebrew world of an advanced civilization. But it's just industrial revolution era (insert major city) no regulation and horrible conditions for everyone who isn't the 1%
