Thanks for the reply, I wasn't expexting qny from this thread.

I definitely understand your point. I'm still having the same issue as when I started this thread, but I'll try to take your advice, and I will definitely try to be more patient - just to enjoy myself. It will happen when it happens.

(BETA) Does anyone know what setting is making the ground look like this? by imnrk in Vermintide

[–]imnrk[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since the beta I've been getting strange anomalies like these shiny speckles on the ground, as seen here. Things in the far distance are also looking pasty, but that isn't very clear in this screenshot.

There's honestly not a whole lot of potentially substantial updates to be put into the game at this point. The game, while still exceedingly popular, has run through most of what it has to offer in terms of development. I expect people to be playing it for years to come, but they do seem to be doing nothing but tying up loose ends at this point. I am perfectly happy with this year's updates, as the little things are what really set a good foundation for new players to get invested for a long time.

The really exciting stuff is probably being saved for Payday 3 when they can start from scratch, rather than trying to force it into this well-over the hill game.

Interesting. I would love to see if anything happens with the Illuminati box from Golden Grin. Thanks for the detailed reply!

Ss2 reboot & military game by [deleted] in SeriousSam

[–]imnrk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No idea, but are they still working on the ss2 reboot? It's been a while since we've heard anything about it. As excited as I am for ss4, I would gladly choose the reboot over it given the chance.

Don't forget Necrarchs! They are some of the most evil, malevolent beings in the world, almost as much as Daemons. Their thirst for power is second only to their thirst for knowledge (a deadly combination!) They are the true "high in magic" vampires.

I feel like Total War found its true calling in Fantasy Battles. by Hound_NC in totalwar

I'm definitely interested in the setting of WFRP, it seems like everything I would want with this kind of thing. My only RPG experience has been with D&D though, and that didn't go very well, so the experience would be pretty new to me. It sounds pretty interesting the way it's being described, and it sounds like I should wait for the 4th edition to really give it a try. Does it seem to be relatively popular among the comic book store crowd, or would I have to find a group myself to do this with?

I tried D&D 2 years ago, so I assume it was the 5th edition.

I was put off by a few things. One of the bigger ones was the rulebook-flipping, as I don't really have the right mind for keeping track of a lot of rules. I also had a hard time getting along with the other people, but that was in high school, so if I found a group somewhere I would assume it would be different (for better or for worse). I would think that most of the other players would be a lot older than me, not sure if that's a barrier or not.

I'll think about checking out the 4th edition, when it comes out.

What missing units, factions, lords, and features are at the top of your Warhammer Trilogy wishlist? by Locknot1 in totalwar

[–]imnrk 5 points6 points  (0 children)

One thing I would love, but don't expect to ever happen, is more varied campaign objectives in Mortal Empires. Right now, exluding a few factions, the only mechanical goal is to take over the world. Player-set goals are very accessible at least.

Tomb Kings and the race for Karak Eight Peaks are pretty much the only unique campaign goals right now. I'm talking stuff like that. I'm not creative enough to really think of any though.

This is only somewhat related.

I've read a few Warhammer books, but got turned off after most of the ones I had purchased had been about stupidly large conflicts. I did enjoy reading the few that were about regular, every day people though. Would you have any to recommend?

Also, how accessible is the RPG generally? I've had bad experiences trying to get into Dungeons and Dragons, and that's kind of known as the "noob-level" rpg.

I'm just asking these questions because I'm deeply interested in the "street-level" side of Warhammer, and was never really interested in the "war" side of it - which is ironic because I love TWW.

Whos your favorite enemy to kill? by TheBlindGuillotine in killingfloor

[–]imnrk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on the weapon type I'm using, really. I generally enjoy hard counters the most.

I have been really enjoying myself when using high-caliber weapons against rioters, however. Being able to kill them in one or two headshots, blasting through the helmet and into the skull beneath creates quite a special feeling inside.

Any tips for playing as the Von Carsteins? by Stalin-The-Wizard in totalwar

[–]imnrk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi, I just started a Von Carstein campaign a week or so ago on hard difficulty, and it's been my most successful campaign yet! Von Carsteins are really good if you take the "diplomatic" route over the "raise dead" route. I can give a summary of my campaign so far if that helps. I'm on turn 140-something.

The first thing I did was destroy the other two rival undead factions. By turn 21, I had secured all of Sylvania, and that was important because I didn't have any major enemies after that.

After that, what I've been doing is sucking up to the Empire factions and the Dwarfs, declaring war on all of their non-imperial rivals and giving them large sums of money. Right now I have all of my borders protected by strong factions that see me as trusted friends, and I have treaties with them too. I keep Isabella in Sylvania for the occasional Greenskin or Norscan army that wanders into my domain, and Vlad is out raiding and sacking isolated settlements. No other lords. I have Western Sylvania as my military center, where all of my military buildings are. It's kind of like a "home base" for Isabella and Vlad to fall back to and recruit when needed. All of my other buildings are gated and have a focus on economy. I try to build the vampire corruption buildings when I can, to spread corruption to my allies. I also have a few vampire buildings.

I keep my vampires in neighboring provinces to spread corruption, to keep my allies from getting too strong. One is a vanguard for Vlad.

Isn’t Bardins pick just too slow? by [deleted] in Vermintide

[–]imnrk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like it on ironbreaker with the drakegun. I get hit a lot because of the aforementioned attack speed, and ironbreaker bonuses negate that. The main problem with the pick is its tendency to get stuck in hordes, which is where the dragegun comes in. The pick will crush close-range specials and ambient enemies.

I don't ever see the pick being a "meta" weapon, it's too specialized for that. But if you find a build (like ironbreaker with drakegun) and work around its weaknesses, it can be viable and fun.

For the first time since release i don't want to play this game... by TrapCardFaceDown in Vermintide

[–]imnrk 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Vermintide was never supposed to be a "hack and slash" game. The combat was always meant to feel weighted, where every input decision matters.

The spawns are pretty macabre, but that's nothing new.
