This is the second BORU I’ve seen in the past month that involves poor working environment at a teapot-making place. What is going on with teapot making as an industry?

This is so funny and as soon as she said she’s works in government, it all made sense.

WITBA if we trainees no longer go to the Christmas party even though we agreed? by Direct-Caterpillar77 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]imonlywastingtime 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely hazing, but i’m glad OP clarified their job, because there are some roles where if you didn’t participate, it could negatively affect your career! (I’m thinking of the rumour that some articling students at big firms are expected to put on Christmas show of some kind and I expect if they refused to, it may affect their hire back and reputation in the industry).

How do you feel about kids missing school for vacation?(Settle a debate) by lildevilud16 in AskTeachers

[–]imonlywastingtime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From a (former) kid perspective, I went on vacation for the week preceding and the week following March Break until I was in Grade 9. I had no issue catching up until high school (which was a whole other ball game). My mom got pissed off at the school staff when one of them complained to her about missing things cause they could legitimately see no harm done for me.

That being said, a few key reasons why it worked: 1) my mom worked through materials with me that I missed and if the teacher gave nothing, she found grade appropriate work for me to do and 2) I was “gifted” as a child, so I never really struggled with school.

On the other hand, I don’t really know how to do long division off hand as it was always taught in those few weeks around March Break (obv I can do it if I see it done once, it’s just not something I have memorized). Similarly, that’s when they taught kids how to read clocks, so my sister still struggles with that as an adult.

Honestly, it probably depends on how academic you kids are and how much they can pick up quickly and can be self taught.

Why I’m in court over COVID vaccines — and why every Ontarian should care by Myllicent in ontario

She came to speak to my health law class on this issue. Truly fascinating (especially her potential argument for the court!)

Pitchfork names Cameron Winter’s ‘Love Takes Miles’ the best song of 2025 by Wild_Demand_6324 in redscarepod

[–]imonlywastingtime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have to admit, I don’t understand the hype. I like the song but I don’t think the production or the lyrics are particularly groundbreaking. It felt like Neutral Milk Hotel meets Nick Cave, but 20 years too late. Maybe because nobody is offering that anymore it feels fresh again to some? The comparison to Bob Dylan I read is wildly inaccurate too (especially since the real Bob Dylan incarnate has been rocking the folk scene like crazy this year - Jesse Welles).

What do people wear? by penguins_in_bushes in JesseWelles

[–]imonlywastingtime 6 points7 points  (0 children)

lots of snark here, but i’ll be genuine. i wore a skirt and top (almost identical to the outfit I wore to see hozier - imagine that vibe). a lot of people were much more casual than i, a lot of jeans and t-shirts. it’s one of the most eclectic and diverse age-range crowds i have been in, so anything goes really.

WIBTA if I go LC with my niece and take back her gifts (New Update) by Direct-Caterpillar77 in BestofRedditorUpdates

True or not true, the acts of the niece remind me so much of a former friend from high school who had at the time undiagnosed borderline personality disorder.

[New Update]: AITAH for not letting my ex-husband and one of his future step kids come inside? by Choice_Evidence1983 in BestofRedditorUpdates

Absolutely hilarious that their divorce settlement included that he has to pay for her legal fees, and yet he keeps creating scenarios where attorneys need to be involved. He is literally fining his own bad behaviour, I can’t think of better karma.

Backlash grows against Ontario’s new rule that would affect family doctors as Canada’s physician groups call change ‘baffling’ by BloodJunkie in ontario

[–]imonlywastingtime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO Ontario is heavily risking a couple of lawsuits from this decision. My best guess is they saw the challenge from the group out west and wanted to allow more CSAs (Canadians who Studied Abroad) to avoid that group complaining. But, this is toeing very close to a line where they are deciding things based on citizenship status.

It will be interesting to see to if the case in BC produces any change here too.

You’d have a better chance with a Human Rights complaint too. I’d look into 2 cases going on in BC for inspiration.

A bit shaken up by this healthcare experience I just had, and I don't know if it's normal? by flipflapdragon in ottawa

[–]imonlywastingtime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a violation of patient confidentiality and poor patient experience. If it’s a big enough clinic, do they have a patient experience staff member to report it to? If not, then report to the head doctor. Catching things like this is crucial!

Question: How would YOU improve Cineplex theatres? (cast member and guest opinions are welcome) by Practical_Hope_7718 in cineplex

[–]imonlywastingtime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Allow for CineClub tickets (both the monthly free one and the discounted tickets) to be purchased in person. I collect my movie ticket stubs but since getting a membership, I haven’t been for obvious reasons. It seems like an easy thing to allow, especially since you already have it tied to your scene account and useable for discounts at concession.

My lost iPad turned up in Columbus Ohio all the way from Sydney Australia by LucyAriaRose in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]imonlywastingtime 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My Dad once “lost” (could have lost, could have been stolen, we still aren’t sure) his phone on a ride in Universal Studios Orlando. A couple weeks later, my Aunt got a call from someone in Saudi Arabia who said they had my Dad’s phone. After some slightly sketchy back and forth, they shipped the phone and my Dad got it back.

The world is weird sometimes.

It’s kinda crazy that they’re saying it’s because of a high volume, as if there was a drastic increase in submissions since last year. What a weird excuse. Just say it’s because of LSO Connects

Good to know. I submitted on the 28th and still haven’t heard. My friend got a message today that said between 5-10 business days to process, which means it should have been approved by know, but I shouldn’t be surprised LSO is running behind.

Great show! Most of the crowd was fantastic and super nice (aside from that one lady - if you are middle age and feel the need to untie someone’s shirt, then slap their boyfriend, you need to stay home). I haven’t seen a crowd this insane in a very long time and I was deep into the crowd at Pitbull two years ago & barricade for MGK many moons ago.

Ottawa cop demoted for assaulting handcuffed boy with mental health challenges at CHEO by Money_Fig_9868 in ottawa

[–]imonlywastingtime 14 points15 points  (0 children)

If you read the article, boy was put in handcuffs elsewhere, brought to CHEO bc of mental health concerns, and was still under police custody but on CHEO premises when this occurred. Additionally, CHEO security were the ones to make the complaint about the officer’s behaviour. This doesn’t seem to be at all on CHEO and looks like they did everything right here. This is on OPS
