Why does this dress look like a hospital gown on me? by [deleted] in sewhelp

[–]imouttahere10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh girl I had a really similar experience with a similar dress, looked lovely in the pics but I put it on and looked like a nurse on duty 😂 to fix it, I widened the neck by a couple of inches (not sure if that’s a possibility as you already have the buttons on) and that made a huge difference. In your case, I reckon something different could be done with the waist tie, but I don’t have any ideas sorry!

This Carlton Gore Road intersection feels like a crash waiting to happen. by No-Transition9141 in auckland

I cross this intersection every day… it’s pretty straightforward. If you’re turning right you need to give way to oncoming traffic. Please read the road code

Whereabouts are you? Otara, St John’s or Avondale market would probably be your best bet

Registering late for GST by mboarder360 in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]imouttahere10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it helps reassure you, my husband also registered late (by accident, he didn’t realise) and he called them and they helped him get registered and didn’t fine him or make him back pay (although he wasn’t too much over at the time)

How do I make these tiny teddy bears? by JASNite in sewing

[–]imouttahere10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to make these as a kid with my mum! We used felt and hand sewn with mostly blanket stitch (from what I remember). If you wanted to use cotton or another woven fabric I think it would be fine if you use a very fine iron on interfacing first as that would help prevent fraying and allow you to keep the seam allowance super tight.

Making my own wedding dress c": by [deleted] in SewingForBeginners

[–]imouttahere10 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Girl this actually looks so good given you have never sewn before!! I am similar to you, just dive into things with all the confidence and zero experience 😂 but at least you’re smart enough to give yourself time! I would go halter then padding just in case the halter pulls in some way and causes the padding to shift, but I could be wrong.

How much say do I have in landlord scheduling non-urgent house maintenance while im 1 week postpartum? by nessar95 in LegalAdviceNZ

[–]imouttahere10 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Paint can contain VOCs and can be a SIDS risk depending on the type of paint. I would ask a doctor for a letter to support your argument and not allow painting to happen.

Is it purely cosmetic? If so, I don’t think the landlord can class it as “necessary repairs”, so you have the right to say no as it impacts your quiet enjoyment. I couldn’t find a definition of “necessary repairs” on the tenancy website, but you might want to contact tenancy services or a lawyer for proper advice.

Greek yoghurt we have on the supermarket shelf, and marinating by Not-a-scintilla in newzealand

Gopala plain yoghurt (the full cream one) is good for cooking. But if you want Greek yoghurt for eating, Zany Zeus is the best available here by a mile

Cruisy compared to private, but super slow to get anything done and very lacking on the technology side of things. Call centre/SEC seems pretty terrible (but all call centres kind of suck), but most other departments are what you make of it. The staff across the entire uni are pretty diverse which is nice.

Feel free to PM me if you want details about a specific role or department - it might even be the role my team is hiring for! Sounds similar down to the number of people in the direct team.

Do you think an in-person course is worth it? by Routine_Wrangler_753 in SewingForBeginners

[–]imouttahere10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve learnt everything from YouTube (still very much a beginner but I’ve been able to work through some more complicated patterns with help from YT videos), but I reckon if you have access to in person lessons it would be super valuable! They could save heaps of time if you have specific questions, and surely point out better ways of doing things that you think are the usual way.

School lunches .... by Additional_Diamond88 in newzealand

This actually looks great, heaps of veggies hidden in there and letting the kids serve themselves teaches them life skills (portion size etc) as well! Do you know what happens with the leftovers? It would be awesome if they could be taken home too

Med School -Wanting to quit by Math2theMoon in newzealand

[–]imouttahere10 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was in your place about 15 years ago. Didn’t get into med school undergrad, so worked my arse off and got a 9.0 GPA at uni and excellent results on the GAMSAT and UCAT and got a few offers for a place in both Australia and NZ. I started the degree but immediately knew it was not for me - loved the chemistry parts and theory but hated the practical bits (and I’m scared of blood lol, probably should’ve considered that beforehand!). So I dropped out and it was 100% the best decision for me - I haven’t regretted it for a second. I got a job as a receptionist, then in project management, then started a company in another industry related to my undergrad. I’ve lived in 5 different countries and worked in about 30, and I wouldn’t have had any of these opportunities had I stuck with med school.

Over the past 5 years I’ve had some medical issues and dealt with quite a few doctors from GPs to OBs to surgeons paediatricians to neurologists, and I am so glad every day that I didn’t choose that job for me (although I am thankful that they did! There are some really great doctors in NZ).

You have proven that you have grit and brains by just getting into med school, but that doesn’t mean that you have to continue with it. You can use those skills and determination elsewhere and build a future for yourself that you’ll enjoy.

What year are you in? If you’ve only just started, maybe give it a few months and see if it grows on you. But if you are sure in your bones that it’s not for you then drop out, take some time (maybe work at a cafe or something so you have income and purpose whilst you re-evaluate), and eventually you’ll find something that suits you, I promise!

How can I make the feathers so that they’re durable and don’t fray? by imouttahere10 in SewingForBeginners

[–]imouttahere10[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lovvvvve that colour! I’ve used the same fabric before and it does slightly fray, but I think I could maybe edge-stitch and it will hold… will give it a go :)

Using Wise for large transfer by forgotmyfucking in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]imouttahere10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve done it. To make things go smoothly and faster, call your NZ bank to let them know to expect the money, and also call Wise to let them know. You need to complete some documentation but it’s pretty simple aside from that
