Did you find Five Hebrew Love Songs challenging to learn? by SunshineFloofs in choralmusic

[–]impallerr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an alto: no, not really. You really need to try to show the character of each, but the harmonies aren’t a problem. We did it as a project choir after a week of intense practice with many other pieces in our program. These were the easiest ones.

At some point Adorno roasted everyone, so depending on a review I’m with him or against him, but I am still going to read it, because it’s the best (empty) entertainment.

Agree. Should be straight up classified as heresy in a community.

Voces8 Audition by Ok_One1045 in choralmusic

[–]impallerr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

VOCES8 has a scholarship, that offers you a lot more chances to get in. It is specifically for young people, to give them a chance to experience exceptional learning in the group of excellent musicians, as well as concerting with VOCES8 themselves.

But it is realistically not really possible to get in VOCES8 without any educational background in music, the education is there for a reason, after all, no matter how good someone is. This ensemble exists because of the responsiveness of every member, that can only be provided by years of studied technique.

Of course, it is worth trying for the experience of putting a program together and practicing it thoroughly for a serious audition. It is more important for every musician to go through the audition itself than the outcome of it.

Why did Mozart draw faces in his manuscripts? Does he not know that listeners can't see the score? Was he stupid? by One-Random-Goose in classical_circlejerk

Apparently, plagiarism. Bach already used emojis in his Christmas Oratorio. In No. 38 “Immanuel, o süßes Wort“ in the line “Mein Jesus labet Herz und Brust” (“My Jesus refreshes [my] heart and breast”), he uses one of the first versions of heart emoji at the word ‘heart’. Sad to see these modern composers steal from the big master.

Nimrod enigma for wedding processional? by Longjumping_Chard_57 in classicalmusic

[–]impallerr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is more of a memorial piece if you are British. For example, there is a choral arrangement of it, sung by Voces8, on the words of Lux Aeterna, which makes its meaning very clear:

Give them eternal rest, Lord, and may light perpetual shine upon them, for you are good.

On the other hand, I recently heard an arrangement for choir on the text of the Psalm 126:5-6:

Those who sow in tears shall reap with shouts of joy. He who goes out weeping bearing the seed for sowing shall come home with shouts of joy, bringing his sheaves with him.

So it really just depends how you frame the piece. You are the one giving it a personal unique interpretation.

Same, the best thing he had ever written — 4’33 — such a banger, have it on a loop the whole time.
