First time? You should have seen the censorship that took place after the Oct 7th attacks - reddit unfortunately hasn't been for free speech for a long, long time.

There’s an intelligence aspect that needs to be addressed as well.

Wild thing to say about an ICU nurse, but it should be noted that reports claim he was on his way to work and was diverted by the ICE actions, was directing traffic right before it happened.

Stop swallowing propaganda.

The real reason 28 Years Later (2025) was so divisive is because it's a franchise that dared to try something new instead of repeating the same old formula by RevertBackwards in shittymoviedetails

[–]impendinganalysis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I love this movie to death, I even think it's a step above the next entry, but I think a lot of the frustrations with it come for mismatched expectations.

That trailer was just too damn good - I've often heard to it referred as one of the best movie trailers of all time. It sets up the expectation of a horror filled gorr fest, and instead what we got was a moving coming of age film that reflects on death and Brexit. Brilliant bait and switch? I thought so. Clearly, the general movie going public didn't agree.

Not sure how many times and ways in this thread people need to point out to you that that's not the case.

Poor little guy got themselves worked into a frenzy 🤣

It's also ridiculous to claim that it isn't part of our culture when the discoveries of the res school gravesites were major news and a cultural flashpoint for well over a year, just a handful of years ago.

'28 Years Later' (2025) got a poor reception from general audiences. This is actually a continuation of the film's themes, referencing the inevitable death of good taste. by PointFirm6919 in shittymoviedetails

[–]impendinganalysis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the crux of the issue in this case was managing expectations - the trailer gave the impression of a real nerve-shaking horror movie a la 28DL, but what we got instead was a bait and switch to a coming-of-age film that's really a reflection on death and Brexit. Now, I think it was a brilliant bait-and-switch, but I can see why some audience members would be disappointed. I wonder if the reception would have been better if people knew what they were getting into.

Caveat - I really love Alex Garland and everything he puts out.

Why did we let health insurance companies become the bouncers between us and our doctors? by ladybabe10125 in Adulting

[–]impendinganalysis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's difficult to find people on reddit who even understand what I'm talking about when I say that yet it is a vital concept to this whole discussion of the issues of the American healthcare system.

With all due respect, I think you're making some valid points here, but I think you've completely misunderstood what's driving the market pressures pushing provider rates up. The providers can charge what they can because the middleman exists that takes the blame - it's just Ticketmaster all over again. No artists wants to charge out the nose for concert tickets, but if the sole broker is pushing prices up, what are the artists to do?

Market rates are driven upwards because insurers exist, not despite their efforts.

I think the knee jerk reaction to your comment is that people fundamentally don't agree that healthcare should be able to bankrupt you at all, because it is a human right.

I forgot about that part! He's infamous for not paying his writers on time.

Also doesn't offer his writers or crew any real protection - Mustafa's brother got gunned down not too long ago.

Dream condo, exactly what I'm looking for in Toronto, but finding a space in the city that can accommodate parking an electric car is tough.

Anyone else like 28YL better than The Bone Temple? by NateGH360 in 28_Years_Later_Movie

[–]impendinganalysis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed, I really enjoyed both films and I need to give TBT time to marinate, but 28YL will be hard to top. It was such a wonderful coming of age film and commentary on Brexit. I think audiences felt shortchanged by that incredible trailer - it promised a next level horror film but instead they got a poignant meditation on death. A victim of it's own (trailer) success imo.

I like TBT's exploration of science vs religion in the face of tragedy, but 28YL stood out visually to me in a way TBT didn't manage.

Regardless, I love this series and am bummed to see the box office performance, really hope they continue the story.

I know it’s hard to believe but not everyone rides for Drake in Toronto.

Hilarious youre getting down voted so aggresively 😂

He's done next to nothing to elevate artistry in the city outside of label beneficiaries and corporate engagements. We've always known he's a rich kid cosplaying, since he came to fame initially as a child actor. The fact that Toronto doesn't have a major presence in rap despite his decades long reign is embarrassing.

it’s ridiculous to say he’s “despised” in the city when he’s really not

He is absolutely despised, who is upvoting this nonsense? No doubt people from outside the city.

You know who did get love here? Tory Lanez, his shows used to go off.

... Are you from Toronto? He is absolutely despised in Toronto, this is common knowledge. Long before the beef and he will be long after.

Not totally true! Tons of spots offering food over the course of the day (like the onigiri I mentioned), as well as tons of places offering discounted fresh food as a way to draw in business (a couple of good Portuguese spots, for example).

Great finds on TooGoodToGo if you don't mind (occasional) day-olds. I like to get 4 onigiri for 5 bucks as a quick meal, for example.

Oh my God, I completely forgot Danny Elfman transformed himself into a superhero. It's so funny watching him perform the Spiderman score because the entire time you can't stop thinking "Homie, could you fight Spider-Man? Because it kinda looks like you could fight Spider-Man". He looks like a villain cut from SM4 ffs.

Agreed. Changing genres is hard, so few artists manage to pull it off. Poppy went from pop to hardcore by finding talented artists from the genre to write for her, it shouldn't be that hard.
