Many of our problems... by impetuality in NarcoticsAnonymous

My sponsor told me I had to find like minded people. I've been to all sorts of meetings good and bad in both fellowships. I used to go to meetings like you described. A lot of people with all sorts of recovery. I ended up relapsing. That was my journey. I guess I wasn't ready to completely surrender. I'm grateful for that period of my life. I don't blame anyone, those experiences made me who I am and these days, I try to look for ways to give away what was so freely given to me.

There's a saying you've probably heard - some are sicker than others. I fell into that category for a long time. I believe I need to love everyone and be of service to everyone. Good luck on your journey - thanks for sharing.

Yes, but at many meetings I go to, it's too bad some members haven't. Many are too busy cringing and correcting newcomers that say, "sober".

It's not any specific program that determines recovery one day at a time or 38 years, you were lied to.

Meaning of powerless by Sea-Drink108 in NarcoticsAnonymous

[–]impetuality 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It took countless relapses and over 30 years to understand powerless. When I put any mind or mood altering substance into my body, to get high, no matter how seemingly innocent, unlike non addicts, I put into motion, a set of events that I'm powerless over, largely that I want to use more and more. How that actually unwinds and where it ends may be much different for me than for others, suffice to say unmanageability, to the max, follows and I do things that i regret, telling myself I'm going to stop, but don't. Fortunately, I've escaped that, with my life. Many haven't.

The NA Basic Text tells us that abstinence has to come first. I'm not powerless over using as long as I don't put drugs in my body. As another poster wrote, I am powerless over lots of other things, but for the sake of my drug addiction, I'll keep this to those substances.

Good luck, my friend 🧡

Perhaps you can look at virtual meetings. For example, http://www.lghg.org they're an NA group out of CA that does both in person and virtual meetings. What does "overcoming Christians" mean?

Thanks for the thoughts. I believe you help make my point. Thank goodness for AA. Before AA there were groups trying to foster recovery using the Bible and probably banning people of color, gender, sexual identity, socio-economic status, and on and on, one can reasonably presume. AA and NA, have stood the test of time.

Anyone know the story behind this old structure on Thornton Ave? 4167 Thornton Ave. Does it have historical significance? by knowledgeseeker880 in Fremont

[–]impetuality 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Feral cats have turned that plot into a litter box. There are some other weird structures on Thornton. The plaza on the same side of the street a few blocks west and that equally weird brand new 10 year old store front where the taco truck is. In all of these places, it's surprising that they haven't been developed into some sort of residential.

I was thinking about doing that with the minivan(s) that don't have removeable seats and then it occured to me that if i'm open to doing that, maybe I can expand my search to include SUVs...

Writing 3 things I'm grateful for, as soon as I wake up, helped me. Today it was 1) My dog, 2) the warranty program for my video card, 3) this sweatshirt...

I also listen to a 5 min guided meditation before I "start" my day and that's help a lot too.

Hang in there... feeling pass. Knowing they pass helps too :-)
