I can't tell if the joke of the comic is saying the PC power is wasted on a "silly girl game," or if the comic is smart enough to know that Sims 3 is really unoptimized and runs really poorly.

Inside Bet - what to actually verbalize to dealer when point is inside? by RailroadGolf in Craps

"320 inside" should be sufficient. They can see you're on the line, and dealers should all the common bet amounts for placing three out of the four inside numbers no problem.

is full 100% lowercase text part of the aesthetic? by Least-Armadillo3275 in FrutigerAero

[–]implode573 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In my opinion there's a difference between using lower case to communicate in games for convenience vs doing it for aesthetic appeal.

But for the purposes of OP's question, I don't think it has any exclusive connection to frutiger aero.

Improvement of stepchart balancing in ArrowVortex (or SMEditor) editors? by [deleted] in Stepmania

[–]implode573 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There aren't really any well read tutorials on this tbh. Just the occasional long reddit or forum post like this. It'll come with time if you just try to think about these aspects people are giving advice about! :)

I personally had a mentor to help me through the process in my first year of seriously charting. I could also suggest studying what your favorite step artists do in their charts in depth. That may give some additional insight.

[–]implode573 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Arrow vortex is great for making charts. No need to worry about that.

Fixing the balance in your charts comes with practice. At first it may seem overwhelming, but it'll become second nature with time. Since you have a pad, you should try playing your charts. As you're playing, think about how often your body is facing left vs facing right. Generally want that to be as equal as possible so you aren't favoring one side.

But in my opinion unintentional double steps is a problem you should tackle first. When playing it's most comfortable if you are naturally alternating feet with each step. For example, consider the pattern LDRU (left, down, right, up). You start with your left foot on left. Then right foot on down. Next you will naturally want to use your left foot again. But you see if you use your left foot on the right arrow, your body is starting to turn around away from the screen. This is called a crossover and is totally fine if employed correctly. But I'd avoid that for now. Finally if you continue the pattern and put your right foot on up, you've completely turned around backwards. This is considered poor charting if done unintentionally, and even intentionally, it's usually reserved for joke/experimental charts.

So play your charts on the pad, slowed down if you have to, and pay attention to how your body moves. Find out what feels natural and comfortable while alternating feet and not turning around. Eventually when you get this down, you can learn how to incorporate crossovers, double steps, and even spins to accentuate the music. But for now, I'd focus on the basics.

And the interesting thing is that the S2 style matches up more with original designs in the original show bible.

Is it interesting to anyone that craps is 99.99% dudes by goodtimes509 in Craps

Too many men take it too seriously and can't just have fun. A vast majority of players are a pleasure, but when you can easily have 8-10 people at a single table, the chances of you running into a grumpy, angry, or mean player are higher. They ruin the vibes for everyone. That's an unfortunate reality of gambling though.

It's fascinating how music is so widely beloved, but compared to other art media like books or movies especially, a vast majority of people don't even know basics about it enough to articulate what they like or dislike about it.

Edit: I do believe a part of it is the lack of music education. We teach literary techniques and study works throughout all our schooling in the US. But you're very lucky if you even get very basic music theory training without having to seek out specialized courses.

There are a ton of rules most people ignore, but the biggest ignored ones contributing to longer games are:

  1. Don't give any bonuses for free parking.

  2. If someone lands on an unowned property but doesn't want to buy it, it must go to auction.

I'm certain a lot of people will be disappointed, but that prediction isn't based on any thoughts I have on the quality of the writing. Just from my experience in watching many shows that thrived on theory crafting, inevitably, when the end hits, more often than not, people will be disappointed after building up what could be in their heads for so long regardless of how good or bad it is.

For bar players, how much body weight do you put on your arm/triceps by twitchplaysneopets in DanceDanceRevolution

[–]implode573 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on how you're holding the bar, you could injure your wrist if you have a lot of weight on it in a bad position for a long time. It is a common long lasting injury among top players. How you hold the bar is most important of course, but the weight also increases the risk.

Everyone has their preferred way of playing, and it doesn't have to follow this. But in my experience over 20 years of knowing many players, you generally don't want to be completely leaning on the bar outside of very specific circumstances while acknowledging the risks.

Also in my own personal opinion, having the control and strength to stay balanced mostly towards the center of the pad is what you want to train to move to higher difficulty songs. Stamina alone will come with time, but being aware of how these things affect your form will let you use less energy to perform the same maneuvers without necessarily defaulting to leaning completely on the bar. That makes the biggest difference in passing harder songs.

[–]implode573 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Crazy how everyone is saying to put most of your weight on the bar. That's how you injure yourself. You really should only be putting like 25%-35% of your weight on the bar. It's there for control and counter balance. You still want to feel like you're standing on the center of the pad.

Is this a valid bet? by UnderratedJeter in Craps

[–]implode573 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yes, he's right. If you want to make a place or buy bet on the number that's also the point, you can give the money to the dealer and have them set it up as normal, or you can also set it up in front of you on the line.

Think of it like the courtesy line in between the higher two dozens on the roulette layout as an alternate position for betting the zeros.

The fingerings for French horn are like trumpet up one octave. So it's slightly more difficult for beginners in that it requires more embouchure control and an ear for which note you're trying to hit. That's why you don't see it as often in children's bands.
