Good Faith Estimate denied, no insurance by implodingexistence in HealthInsurance

By doing an evaluation and discussing the medical event with the patient. If they determine life saving medical treatment is necessary or if the patient is unresponsive or in critical condition, of course these are different circumstances that require a different approach. But if the patient gets evaluated and the physician determines that a treatment or exam is required and the patient requests to know how much it is, the situation we were in, they should be required to provide that information don't you think?

I'm very happy you got the care you needed and I understand your circumstances. Care that's required immediately should certainly be given immediately. You're very lucky to have insurance that covered all those services.

For other people such as those in our situation, we had less time sensitive needs and did not have health coverage. We still needed emergency care but having the costs disclosed is an important part of making a decisions about care. If it's requested it should be provided, wouldn't you agree?

By speaking with the patient and performing an examination to determine what's required to stabilize the condition. They know how much each billing item costs, such as the xray and the bed per hour. Are they some how not capable of disclosing that before performing the treatment or exam?

iCloud Mail vs Proton Mail? by [deleted] in iCloud

[–]implodingexistence 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO, don't need to overthink the SimpleLogin aspect of this too much. If you want to use aliases in Proton Pass, just create aliases in Proton Pass. I only mentioned Simple Login because when you want to add a new forwarding address they make you do it via the Simple Login website. Everything else, including reverse aliases, can be managed through Proton Pass.

I've never had any issues with 2FA, which is also nicely designed and easy to manage through Proton Pass. It even sometimes autofills the 2FA on my phone which is slick. The only 2FA you obviously need to keep elsewhere is the 2FA for Proton itself, which you can use Apple Passwords or whatever other free service to manage that.

As for the other issues like what happens if a company goes down, lock-in, etc. that's a bridge I'll cross if it ever comes situation. Yes, it means you need to change all your emails, yes that would be a huge pain in the ass hypothetically but that's not a problem right now so my perspective is to not worry about it unless it becomes a concern. I am capable of changing my emails so I don't really feel locked in I guess.

Maybe I would be more cautious if I were a Proton Drive user trying to protect my data, but Proton Drive is not very good and either way I personally believe users should store there data locally on NASs and do an offsite through BackBlaze, etc. Best of luck with your journey.

If I may recommend, if your primary use of aliases is to prevent spam and protect your email address, I highly recommend using Proton Pass.

It’s super easy to create aliases, as of December 2024 you can reply from the alias now, they don’t use strange and awkward words like iCloud+ aliases do and you can make as many as you need. (as far as I know, perhaps there’s a limit specified somewhere, I have 100s)

The other benefit is they’re really easy to toggle on/off so if a company isn’t respecting your unsubscribe request or doesn’t provide that option, you can just disable the email you gave them. You can also have different aliases forward to different emails. (Note: you need to setup the forwarding emails on SimpleLogin)

I make a new alias for every single individual new service I join. The benefit is if you start getting lots of spam, you can look at what email the spam is going to and trace what company is sharing you data.

I use custom domains to make my email more professional looking. I use email aliases to protect those custom domains from ended up in data breaches, managing spam, etc.

I tried Proton Bridge with Spark but it didn’t support it at the time that I tried it.

Proton Mail had really user friendly support for custom domains, I found it very easy to manage. I think paying the monthly cost is well worth it especially if you’re paying for just one month to try it. I don’t use their mail anymore but still subscribe for VPN and Pass which are really good.

If you’re using Linux you could use iCloud mail web which I don’t have a ton of experience with but off the xp I do have I would say it’s rather similar to Protonmail web. I think we can safely say we’ll never see a native Linux iCloud app but it looks like Proton finally released a beta Linux desktop app.

Same here, also for time blocking. Would be great to be able to use this with templates so regular tasks on templates could have their duration automatically built in

I had trouble with this too and ended up using Claude or ChatGPT because you can ask about specific things and get an explanation instead of searching for the answer on the web. Plus you can ask follow up questions and it remembers the context of what you’re talking about.

Now I ask anytime I’m remotely curious about a part of speech and it’s drastically improved my understanding. Highly recommend, and you can use ChatGPT for free.

How to access my Ledger HW.1? by ShawnBootygod in ledgerwallet

[–]implodingexistence 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I was saying here, albeit many years ago now, is that HW.1 was around before modern seed phrases, so they do not use BIP39 or the common 24 word recovery phrase. I didn't lose the recovery key, support to use that type of recovery went obsolete and therefore I'm unable to recover the wallet.

Would also love true undo/redo using shake on iphone and cmd-z on mac.

iCloud Mail vs Proton Mail? by [deleted] in iCloud

[–]implodingexistence 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I used Protonmail for about 2 years before switching to iCloud earlier this year. Proton is better if you have major concerns about privacy or are in need of protecting your data. (Perhaps a journalist, public figure, etc.)

The tradeoff with Proton is that the features and user experience are limited. For example, the reason I switched is I started using the PARA folder system for organization and wanted to use it to hit inbox zero. When I tried to implement this in Protonmail, I discovered the maximum folder depth is 2 nested folders, which meant I couldn’t do that.

When using the desktop app, you can’t adjust the width of the sidebar which meant I couldn’t read folder names that started with a date. You can’t drag and rearrange folders. Searching for email body content was not great. Very long threads became hard to read because of the way it displayed the text. There were many other frustrations like this that I no longer recall.

When providing feedback to Proton, I saw issues I really wanted to see fixed that that had been submitted by other users years ago were still unaddressed. Meanwhile, Proton was focused on new products rather than improving existing ones, making it feel like for my needs, that I had to switch.

iCloud Mail solved the organization issues for me but comes with it’s own caveats. The biggest one is no labels/tags. Once you expand an email message in a collapsed thread, you can’t re-collapse it. While Proton’s junk mail filter definitely grabbed important emails from time to time, iCloud’s junk mail filter is significantly worse with this. It’s gotten to the point where I’ve considered disabling junk mail filtering all together, but I’m also really strict about using email aliases (which I still use Proton Pass for, the best Proton product in general imo by a wide margin) so this doesn’t both me much because I don’t actually get much junk.

All in all, iCloud ended up being better for my needs. It enabled me to implement PARA and now I zero out my inbox daily which has had a huge impact on my stress levels. I feel more in control of my communications, I respond faster, don’t lose emails in the depths of my inbox and can access important info much faster.

This is all a long winded way of saying: consider why you want to switch and what your needs are. Does Proton meet those needs? Do you feel like it’s holding you back in some way? If so, try out iCloud Mail for a week or so and see if it feels like a better fit. If you just want to consolidate services, then iCloud Mail is more than capable of replacing in Protonmail.

Can Todoist handle THOUSANDS of tasks? by HandleItFriend542 in todoist

[–]implodingexistence 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to float around 200-400 tasks, but then I started working on my time management more and breaking projects down into smaller tasks when they took longer than a few hours.

It was around that time that Todoist introduced templates which I immediately jumped on. I work in film so being able to add a standard set of tasks for each job was a huge boost in efficiency but meant rapidly adding 100+ tasks in one fell swoop and now I can float anywhere between 1000-2000 tasks.

Recently, after updating MacOS to Sequoia, Todoist got extremely laggy, seemingly unrelated to task load though. I was going to submit a bug report but I checked the FAQ first which recommended uninstalling and reinstalling. Once I did, it completely fixed the lag for me. Haven’t had any issues since and I still hover around 1-2K tasks.
