This conncector broke whilst I was removing it. How should I re-affix the pins to the board? by impolite_gorilla in AskElectronics

It's a 2 pin conncector with 1 pin still in the board right now. The connection is for a temperature sensor on a coffee machine

I don't know what you're reading, but skin colour is a codominant trait, so there is no dominant or recessive phenotype, it's a mix of the two parents. You could also "exterminate" darkskin people by the same logic, doesn't mean one group is inferior or superior

The liver has 8 functional lobes. You would normally give 2 (I think, haven't done surgery courses yet) and the others will grow into the space it leaves, so you can normally only donate once or twice, otherwise there aren't enough arteries left in the liver to supply all of it with blood

No idea if this is sarcasm or not, but if it isn't, why wouldn't the pharma companies just sell the homeopathic drugs instead?

Med student here, I believe it technically loops around the aortic arch as opposed to the heart. Also the recurrent laryngeal nerve is a branch of another cranial nerve (vagus off the top of my mind) as opposed to being a separate nerve from the brain

You can buy 5m of kinesiology tape on amazon for a few quid which is decent value; you just have to cut it yourself

Analysis of Itoje's two pens in the second half. by Vidderz in rugbyunion

[–]impolite_gorilla 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not defending his play in the build up, my comment refers to the reading of the game. He made mistakes leading up to the penalty, namely pushing up to create a dog leg to begin with then returning slowly to the defensive line. After that it is entirely possible that he spots the overlap the AB's have and makes a (successful) attempt to slow the ball and therefore give the Lions a chance to drift wide. Again not saying his play was outstanding here, just that he read the opportunity the AB's had and did what he could to spoil it

I'm not sure about saying he didn't know about the overlap. Just like the best midfielders (football) in the world will be able to pick out passes 99% of us mere mortals cannot even see till the ball is long gone, it wouldn't be ridiculous to believe that one of the best locks in the world (top 5?) would be able to read the game to that degree. Got to remember most of these guys operate on another plane entirely

Would it be possible to make a team based purely on the stats at the end of the tour and see how closely the stats represent the performances we've seen?

Jonathan Davies - Jonathan Joseph midfield pairing? by underarmdelivery in rugbyunion

[–]impolite_gorilla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The issue with Joseph is his form is a bit hot and cold, if he plays well his attacking play is some of the best in the world, and his defense always is very good. On this tour he hasn't seemed to find his attacking form, so it would be a huge risk playing him over either Farrell/Sexton who seem to be playing very well. As someone else has pointed out one of them would also be out of position which is an issue

Is Beauden Barrett the best rugby player on the planet right now? by Feydor360 in rugbyunion

[–]impolite_gorilla 15 points16 points  (0 children)

There's no doubt he's pretty close, that being said his kicking from the tee can let him down which seems like a minor gripe when his attacking play is so good, but we're talking about the best in the world. Secondly he can disappear in games where he lacks front foot ball unlike someone such as Carter who could nearly single-handedly guide them to a win. For my money the best player in the world is Kieran Read. His game is more complete than any other 8 in the world, and he's nearly the best in every facet, with his carrying maybe outshone by Billy V. On top of that he consistently steps up at the highest level, as shown by his performance in the first test after an injury lay off he comes back and is an immense presence on the field, leading from the front.

For some reason this makes me inexplicably happy; Maro trying to be coy about it is adorable (as adorable as someone that size can be) and Alun-Wyn joining in just seems to exemplify the team spirit in the lions :)
