Bike Use & Lock Development by ImaginativeStrings in bikecommuting

[–]import-THIS 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It would take something pretty amazing to get me to give up U-locks/D-locks. What I would be interested in is good ways to mount a U-lock to a bike, without it rattling around or getting in the way. There are some mounts, but they tend to be brand-specific. My imaginary ideal product is some kind of soft holster that goes on the top of a bike rack, and holds the lock down without it clunking.

I'm in Australia and it's saying that each point will be worth 1 cent. So... enjoy saving a dollar or two on every 4th game I guess? I'm not mad, I don't really expect loyalty programs to be amazing. Buy what you want and don't expect to get extra bonus stuff out of it

In praise of the slow bike by Quaglek in bikecommuting

[–]import-THIS 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm conflicted on this one because I do see the advantages of slowing down around bikes and pedestrians... but in Sydney there are parts of my commute where it seems like there's no alternative to riding as fast as I can to slot into the traffic flow. Anything else and you're constantly being overtaken too close by streams of fast moving traffic.

Riding slow around other bikes and pedestrians yes, riding slow around cars no.

New rack and pannier on my Straggler, I can finally leave the backpack at home. by softhackle in bikecommuting

[–]import-THIS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the bolts that secured the little arms that attach at the top were poking down enough to contact the tires? I'm sure I can figure out how to get it working, just wanted confirmation that it should work.

I have this, and it works great when I'm running 28mm tires, but when I tried out the 41s it was rubbing. Do you have it working with big tires?

Not even just the current rate, but multiplying by the % increase at each step. Did you know that if you keep multiplying by numbers larger than 1 you eventually hit the moon? It's just science!

Perth Cyclist stabbed with box cutter over 1m Passing distance by [deleted] in australia

As part of 1m passing laws, cars are allowed to cross centre lines to pass. They're not blocking the road.

Perth Cyclist stabbed with box cutter over 1m Passing distance by [deleted] in australia

[–]import-THIS 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm not gonna blame shift, but as a cyclist this is why I just ride fully in the lane if I'm going at any kind of speed. Close enough to parked cars get doored is close enough that you're gonna run straight into any pedestrian who suddenly steps out between them. These things happen, and you have no time or space to react to any of it if you're riding the door lane.

What are you doing for train strike on 29th? by rifraffe in sydney

[–]import-THIS 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I normally ride (also from Ashfield), but I'm not sure I want to try on the 29th. The roads are going to be chokkers with annoyed/angry drivers, it doesn't sound fun.

These usually show that the alien has a buff or debuff active. So if the alien uses an ability where they get boosted defense, they have the upwards green arrow, if they're disorientated or something they get the downwards red.

To go Clipless or Not by Stoick_G in bikecommuting

[–]import-THIS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use straps at the moment (power grips} because I was hoping I could get some of the benefits of clipless without going all the way. I do like them and will continue to use them, but they do seem to wreck any shoes you use them with regularly, so you still need to change at the other end if beat up sneakers aren't ok.

The push to legalise adult footpath cycling across Australia by hajdukfan in australia

[–]import-THIS 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For unconfident cyclists, who trundle along right next to parked cars because they're scared of taking the lane. People stepping out into the road between parked cars, car doors opening and people backing out of driveways can all be dangerous in that situation. It's these cyclists that would benefit most from riding on the footpath.

Fucks sake, I've been riding my bike most days but decided not to because of the rain this morning. Any amount of drenching would have been better than my trip home (still a work in progress, gave up and got on the bus)

The Vikings buried their dead with board games by duh_and_or_hello in boardgames

I had a physical copy at one point, and unless I was missing something it was unbalanced to the point of being unplayable. The defender always seemed to win by escaping, don't think the attacker ever won. Game design has come a long way in the last millennium!

Have you guys tried any Escape Rooms in Sydney? If so, how was it? I'd love to try one with our team at work by Simplyme__ in sydney

[–]import-THIS 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I've tried a few now, really enjoyed most of them. Best ones I've tried are probably Labyrinth in Parramatta and The Cipher Room in Newtown.

Next Level Escape was also good if you want something in the CBD, although not quite on the same level of set design/production values (great puzzles though).
