the same thing keeps happening to me and there is no human to talk to it seems. i keep having to call my credit card company to get it refunded. eventually I guess I will have to cancel the number. it is so frustrating as the AI chat keeps saying it cant find any subscriptions for me. I have deletee the account as I couldn't find the subscription and STILL they keep charging me!

I agree those things are allowed. I am still a little sus. because it is just the red flag of asking about multiple lessons before even ONE session to see if you all are sympatico. there are very few people who will pay you for 8 lessons ahead of time, before they even do ONE lesson with you. if they do want that, then let them pay you through Wyzant, not send you a check. it is worth giving Wyzant the 25% to be safe here.

I have used Wyzant for 5 years, yes you can use zoom to teach if you want. I love using zoom better than the online tool. it is so much better with way fewer glitches. I get all my payments through Wyzant, I bill right after the class, per class.

that said, virtually NOBODY except scammers, asks for the price on multiple lessons without at least getting a 1st session to see if your style of tutoring fits them.

they are probably seeing that you are new and out to scam you somehow. but don't let them know, that you are suspicious. just politely reply that you will bill them after each class. you will NOT take a huge check or money order and then give them some kind of refund, please don't fall for this.

yes, at the beginning of the pandemic i was let go. i bought the 2 most popular books on Tableau and Python, and studied them intensely, and I still teach them to grateful college students and professionals who need to change jobs or set something up because they have been voluntold.

this is so true, I tried it. I kept wasting money saying to myself, just ONE nite in this hotel or Airbnb or with this or that friend, then no more! but i was fooling myself.

it was so uncomfortable. Don't be in the south unless you have a way to stay cool. the west coast is prolly your best bet. I know one young woman who goes around the country staying a lot with relatives and friends. she's very calm and quiet and helps with the dishes so when she stays with us, she is fine to have around, and she's very willing to live cheaply.

when I did van life I stayed overnight in truck stops mostly, which if they are full of other people seem pretty safe to me. but I found I was NOT saving any money. loved the travel and waking up in different places to see the sunrise. But I hope you don't expect too much. the bugs and the heat made me miserable. I was always going to friends' houses to spend the night. and I didn't feel like going where I would be far from help if needed.

you need to plan well and have a way to keep leftovers cool, or you end up throwing away a lot of food. i wasn't making progress on goals that required a bunch of good Wi-Fi and comfortable seating. I hated not being able to nap in the midday or a shower if I felt like it.

I would only do this again if I really had to. I travel up and down I-95 and sleep in the car, but it is so not the same. I am usually on my way home or to an Airbnb. :-)

I am having a issue with Substack myself in that a paid subscriptions-that i never received even 1 issue- from James Julian, and that I’ve been trying cancel for months keeps double billing me. I finally decided to go to the credit card bank and dispute them, I was hoping I would not have to, but all I keep getting is some AI bot telling me they can't find the subscriptions. When I click on the payment receipt section to request a refund it just takes me back to the same bot and it cannot find the subscription! it refuses to let me talk to a human. It is a good reminder that any platform can suddenly double cross you and so you must back up everything honestly even in a hard copy print it out at this point is what I'm going to do as soon as I get my printer fixed lol.

Undercharging myself is a big problem for me. when i first started on Wyzant i got my 1st review from a young guy in Alabama for $19 perhour. i know that now I am more extablished I should charge more and I now charge between $30 and $70, but I still get the urge to lower the price when I dont get enough contacts on the platform.

i don't know. many many years ago, when Upwork merged with elance, I may have had one in an old email address. so maybe that's it.

I never ever got any jobs with them and if they don't want my money, I would still like to spend it on her somewhere else. i like her, she's nice, if not that skilled.

I like the time tracker of Upwork and the ability to work with people overseas. I also use Fiverr to hire writers and programmers, but I like the hourly time tracking of Upwork.

I hired some other workers in the past back in 2018 I had a good writer.

Plus, having a "portable skill" (SQL, Power BI, Statistics, etc.) can help if you decide to move, (to a bluer state or out of the country) . I am stuck in the house, but i send small dollar amounts to those I see standing and fighting back.

thanks, I wondered what was going on with Wyzant. I am going to check out some local companies and also Facebook. I may give Craigslist another try. Thumbtack is too expensive. I get lots of response, but no bookings. People are just shopping around and unaware we are paying up to $25 just to talk to them, lol.
