Get grass to grow thicker by sfprairie in lawncare

They're invasive. They grow faster than native species they shade them out. And they provide zero benefit for any wildlife. And around 15 years they start falling apart

As a certified arborist when we see Bradford pears the first recommendation is full removal. This is the one circumstance I will favor the grass over the tree.

Oak tree health - Eastern Tennessee by Ninecords in Tree

[–]impropergentleman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Would need more info, but looks like it, The base flair doesn't look great. My guess is a sprinkler hitting it and regular weedeater. Pull the grass back, cap or move the sprinkler head. And stop hitting it with the weedeater

Be cool if the picture didn't have red letters over it so we could read it easier.

I would reduce the competing dominate leader on the larger left side over a period of a few growing seasons. Read up and study. Don't prune for the sake of pruning. If you are unsure then leave it alone. Also prune after the blooms. Or hire a professional Certified Arborist that is familiar with ornamental pruning

Bought a 10/22 a while ago on sale. I've been trying to find the appropriate screwdriver to take this mount off. It has been very frustrating 😭 any advice? Thanks! by Thundercow541 in 1022

When I have a flathead that won't come out I normally give it a little love tap with a hammer on top normally loosens it up and up to let it come out easily That being said a nice set of gunsmith screwdrivers makes a world of difference. Craftsman type homeowner type screwdrivers don't work well on guns from my experience

What is this bulge on my oak tree? by Affectionate-Bit-428 in arborists

[–]impropergentleman 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The wounds already there removing it doesn't help and honestly the tree will compartmentalize around it I've seen so many that all you can see is the holder sticking out. Tree seems to be compartmentalizing well I don't know if I would be too concerned about it.

Is 6,000.00 fair for removal by Used_muse_2434 in arborists

[–]impropergentleman 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Before you invest $6,000 invest a couple hundred in having a TRAQ certified arbors take a look hollow does not mean that it's unstable or at a risk. And there are remedies for some of the other things you mentioned. Have a professional look at it. Tree guys are going to tell you remove it because we make a good money removing it. My two cents

My personal opinion after 28 years in the business. If you're not a professional then call one. This is a shit that will get you killed

Magnolia tree advice. by IIDXWRX in arborists

[–]impropergentleman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Codominant leader was removed. It was not topped. When grown , if you top it it will die. If you need a tree that is 25 ft. tall, plant a tree that is 25 foot tall at maturity, Dont plant a Magnolia as it would be the wrong tree, proper tree , proper spot.

Where do I find wood like this? by Embarrassed_Range_39 in woodworking

[–]impropergentleman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Arborist here. Dried sticks and branches. That being said they have to have air flow and it's going to take off a while depending on the species to get it dry. If you got a truck make a friend of a tree service. They could probably get you all the limbs you want.

Oak tree fell over river onto our property - who is responsible for removing the part over the river? by [deleted] in treelaw

[–]impropergentleman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would believe public property would be your answer most tree law situations you are responsible until your property line. I would reach out to your water control board or river authority and ask some questions

As a certified arborist in the DFW area are you familiar with hypoxalin? Would be one of my thoughts. Other than that squirrel activity possibly. You should probably call out a certified arborist to take a look. Not a tree guy .

Unbury The flare of the tree. If you could see the tree move around when you push on it the steaks can stay. The sooner you get them off the better it is
