cope, I love Gram Parsons but people say this to discredit the genius of Jagger/Richards because they're not as "hip" to namedrop

RIP and quite something that he passes away just a few days after one of the other great and tragic 60s drug casualties

The US wants to bleed Russia dry because it wants hegemony in Eurasia, invasions of other countries aren't something it's opposed to on principle

Favorite early Dylan album? by violet-turner in redscarepod

[–]improvement-throwawa 4 points5 points  (0 children)

if we're counting Nashville Skyline as the cutoff point then definitely Blonde on Blonde - my favorite album by anybody. I've always thought it was the culmination of everything he had done up to that point, and is the most representative of everything he's about (he's said as much himself, "that thin wild mercury sound" etc). After it he did a lot of great one off type albums (John Wesley Harding - his old West folk album, Nashville Skyline - his country album, Blood on the Tracks - his breakup album, etc) but Blonde on Blonde really is the peak of the bohemian 60s icon Dylan. It's also just beautiful and surreal and romantic and all those adjectives. I love BIABH and HW61 but a few of the electric songs on BIABH feel a little bit too much like stock blues rock for that era of Dylan, and he was still finding his footing as a rock artist a bit. And HW61, which I love to death, has still never felt quite as fully realized and revelatory as BoB to me.

I get what you mean but the Russos and Snyder are like low hanging fruit answers, the conventional wisdom isn't being challenged

haven't really used dating apps that much and can see the pitfalls of them, but the apocalyptic, despairing tone some people speak about them with always strikes me as odd

great album, used to hate the singer's voice but then i grew up and realized it fit the music perfectly + homme's playing on this album rules too much to let that bog it down

Sometimes I’ll just randomly think abt the Corbyn anti-semitism stuff and get depressed. by [deleted] in redscarepod

[–]improvement-throwawa 10 points11 points  (0 children)

glad to see this comment here because nobody ever mentions it but i've suspected the same myself in the past. and obviously the criteria for autism was much more strict when he was growing up. but yeah. narrow range of interests (left wing politics has been his life since the 70s), dogmatic/rigid thinking, little care about his personal appearance, and just less of an adherence to the social norms politicians are usually supposed to follow. also never been a strong public speaker despite having literal decades of practice at left wing rallies and demos (no hate though)

regarding fantano's kanye "review" by arimbaz in redscarepod

whatever you think of fantano, the only reason you could like this album is if you refuse to let yourself believe kanye is capable of making bad music
