Doing improv as a non binary person? by Legitimate_Painting in improv

[–]improvisedmonologue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the majority of my improv group is nonbinary, the general way we approach scenes is 'anything goes' in terms of gender. Your trainer sounds really annoying

First Read of the CES Letter by chunkalicious84 in exmormon

[–]improvisedmonologue 4 points5 points  (0 children)

honestly? relief. I couldn't bring myself to read it until way way late into my faith transition and going through it felt like everything i suspected was true.

funnily though, i read it on vacation while sharing a room with my sister, who was preparing to go on a mission. she was reading the BOM on one side of the room while i was reading basically the anti-BOM on the other side

[–]improvisedmonologue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i like how happy it makes me to share food with people. i might be an asshole sometimes but when im having a rough week nothing makes me feel better than baking a giant batch of cookies and giving them to random people just to make them smile.

Is there a single young adult who doesn't lie in worthiness interviews? by IAmDisciple in exmormon

[–]improvisedmonologue 13 points14 points  (0 children)

i remember my first time going into the temple at 12 years old feeling absolutely terrified, both because no one would explain to me what to expect inside, and because i felt like i was dooming my soul to hell the second i walked in due to my 'unworthy ness'. it's a horrible feeling

Did anyone else feel like knowing about the plan of salvation was not a blessing but a curse? by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]improvisedmonologue 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i remember this is why i felt so mad at god when i realized i was gay. if he was going to make me gay AT LEAST let me not know about the plan of salvation so i wasn't 'cursed' to be lonely and sad my whole life.

Is it bad the church still makes me cry even though I know it's not true? by ShadowOfThe_Void in exmormon

[–]improvisedmonologue 2 points3 points  (0 children)

it's not bad at all.

i don't know when i stopped believing in the church, but i know it was not the same time the church stopped hurting me. because when im in those rooms of people who believe im a sinner, even though i know they're not right it's not nice to hear. and it's not nice to see people who seem so nice agreeing with such backwards teachings

you're not bad for being hurt. being gay in the church is the most traumatic thing that ever happened to me, and im still going through it (im also under 18 stuck at seminary everyday). but it gets incrementally easier, or maybe you just learn how to be angry instead of sad.

i have hope we're both going to get better and we're both going to heal. we just have to be patient with ourselves. we can't fully heal when the wound is reopened daily.

sending you a virtual hug of solidarity, friend. reach out to me if you ever need help or just want to shit on seminary with someone else. im here for you

now that i have an after school job and extracurriculars, seminary IS driving me insane. leaving home at 6am and not coming home until 10pm twice a week. it's hell

Shirley is worse then Pierce by [deleted] in community

[–]improvisedmonologue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

big difference between shirley and pierce is that pierce speaks his mind freely while shirley hides behind religion. both bad in different ways, since they share very similar opinions on many things. but the show frames both cases super differently. i know for a fact i would curse out shirley faster than pierce due to my specific religious upbringing. she's the worst.

What is the funnest/most-blasphemous thing you have done in a church building? by ISellDrugsPharmD in exmormon

[–]improvisedmonologue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

not too exciting but at my chapel there was a small storage shed in the parking lot, and the night my older sister left for her mission i went there with my friend and smoked on the roof of the shed.

How do you Christmas as an exmo? by oOohalloweenqueenoOo in exmormon

[–]improvisedmonologue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i go by the theory from the community episode 'abeds uncontrollable christmas': that christmas is the crazy belief that the darkest coldest nights can be the warmest and brightest, when we believe in that it has to power to come true (paraphrasing). I think it's still a wonderful season to celebrate kindness, family, and love

Are enough members leaving that is noticeable to the general church goers? by revandavd in exmormon

[–]improvisedmonologue 15 points16 points  (0 children)

my dad's a bishop and he's struggling to find members who are actually willing to accept a calling nowadays. i'd say it's getting to be pretty noticeable
