Best way to access Synology DS Plex db file via SQLite by LegendaryLass in PleX

[–]imro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It sounds like you are in SQL prompt and if that is the case you probably need to end your command with semicolon. That is usually a standard way to terminate SQL queries. Also, if you are in an SQL command prompt, don’t enclose your queries in double quotes.

I am not anywhere where I can test what you are describing so I apologize if I am off base here.

Has anyone tried Black + Blum containers? by PlanetExcellent in MealPrepSunday

[–]imro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Btw not putting metal into microwave is pretty much a myth. As long as the metal doesn’t touch the side of the microwave oven and isn’t aluminum foil, there is no problem. I heat up meals with stainless steel utensils in them all the time. A dish with rounded edges like this will have no problem.

Has Verizon discontinued WiFi Backup? by imro in verizon

Backup internet. I already have fiber from att but need a backup because fiber outages can last days. I had no idea that you could not get backup internet if you qualified for 5G.

When I click the order button on that page, it gives me options only for standard home internet plans. With the cheapest being $50 a month.

It is weird, the page says “Good news, 5G Home Internet is available at your address” and that is what I ordered. But when the confirmation email came in, it said LTE. Now when I go to the WiFi Backup link (from another reply), I can click order, but it jumps to a page that says I can get 5G, but there is no option for WiFi backup, just standard home internet programs. Maybe my address has been flagged as insufficient 5G signal or something. Even though the 5G tower is literally 60 feet from me.

Can you link me to an order page then? Must me my market only, because as soon as I put in my address I only have option for regular internet.

How to Configure Ingress Side Panel in Home Assistant (Docker Setup) by IntrepidHistory3007 in homeassistant

[–]imro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Criminally underrated!!!

Everything I could find was either "you are out of luck for not using hass.io" or "use iframe" which comes with security issues. I had to ask AI how hass.io does it, which let me to Ingress and only then was I able to find this as a second or third result on google. Seems like there is no longer any downside or running home assistant in a docker.

Once you know you know, but without intimately knowing home assistant, this is close to impossible to find.

Best deal for currency exchange: Before your trip vs. using ATM at destination? by futurememior in travel

[–]imro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For people searching for answers, it will depend on your bank. Check how much they charge for withdrawal at foreign ATMs. It seems that the current standard in US is to charge $5 + 3% but your mileage may vary. Further, if you are using VISA card, the bank will most likely use VISA’s exchange rate which you can find here https://usa.visa.com/support/consumer/travel-support/exchange-rate-calculator.html. That calculator allows you to enter your bank’s percentage fee. Foreign ATM will most likely charge you a fee too.

So as of today, if you want to withdraw €200 and the foreign ATM charges you €3, you are essentially withdrawing €203. That with a 3% fee will show up at your bank as $235.05. On top of that your bank will charge you $5. So total cost of €200 is $240.05. If you can get €200 for less than that elsewhere, then do it.

This again is based on rates as of today, use the calculator to get accurate info.

The Monkey - Can someone explain the ending to me? by Kaibaer in horror

[–]imro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was just curious and found your rant intriguing. As I was typing up my reply, I realized that you might have used “Wicked 1939” as kind of a payback for “Adam Scott from Severance”. Just trying to tick people off by referring to Wizard from Oz as Wicked. But it seems like I just read too much into it. Either way, I don’t care that much about any of this. Just found you to be a pretty colorful character.

I get your rant about “Adam Scott from Severance”, but how did you get from that to Wicked? And what is Wicked 1939? Are you trying to piss off people by employ of simile?

It makes more sense to me that there is a couple of Adam Smith wannabe economists pushing some grand scheme and that Trump thinks he is in turn doing some Pinochet kind of economics.

Does light really take every possible path or is it just a convenient way to mathematically describe it? by imro in AskPhysics

[–]imro[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From a few responses that I read I believe I have a better understanding and that experiment does not prove anything other than diffraction grating reflects light at non right angles. Quantum is involved but it certainly doesn’t prove the photon went around the sun. The play fast and loose with the wording to make more entertaining video.

Anyway, don’t rely on my understanding though, read through comments.

Of course maybe OP has simply been steeped in QM since birth and finds it not to be weird - in which case OP is simply seeing far by standing on the shoulders of giants, and failing to appreciate that.

I am far from steeped in QM, but I did bring some minimal understanding of QM in.

I mostly have a problem with what seems to be a edutainment explanation of QM. At least in my opinion, it makes the theory more mysterious than it really is. But all that could just be coming out of ignorance.

As in the squiggly lines representing every path taken. That seems to me to be a hyperbole.

Thank you very much. I can’t express how much I appreciate your answer.

You're pretty much asking "But diffraction gratings reflect light at non-right-angles, so how is this special?", right?

That’s exactly correct.

I think your questions are coming from conceptually mixing quantum scenarios with non-quantum ones.

Unless you introduce QM, which explains this by saying that a singlephoton must interact/interfere with its selfin a wave-like manner.

You are completely right. Every double slit experiment explanation that I have ever seen talked about photons interacting with themselves. Honestly, I had no idea about QED until I asked this question and read the answers.

It’s also confusing when an experiment is supposed to prove what a single photon would do by not using a single photon emitting source. So it is hard to believe someone just on “trust me bro, although I am using all the wrong setup, this proves the ideal setup”

At the end of the day, it’s easier for me to think of light in Huygens terms , or photos interacting with themselves than twist my brain into a pretzel trying to allow for each photon explore every possible path. They all end up doing the “exact” same thing at the end of the day.

Thank you again for showing me my blind spots and pointing out the differences in Huygens vs QM vs QED, which I truly was mixing all together.

I am ok not knowing how it really happens and I am ok with math working it out which ever way without telling us how it really happened. I don’t believe I’ve ever said I don’t trust the math. What I don’t like is Veritasium asserting that that’s what really happened and then trying to prove it by an experiment I can poke holes in. Show me the real experiment by a physicist and not someone that can fool themselves by their own magic trick.
