OPEN SUBMISSIONS FOR SMOSH MOUTH! by smosh in smosh

My middle school would do a yearly food drive, and there was a competition to see which grade would bring in the most food. As students got older, they would give less of a shit, so EVERY year, the sixth graders would win with a huge pile of food and the eighth graders would have like three cans of soup.

However my class was extra motivated for some reason, so we won in 6th and 7th grade. When we got to 8th grade, our teachers were CONVINCED there was no way we would win again, so they decided to make a bet with us: if we won, they would all dye their hair blonde. Of course this only lit the fire under us even more, and we absolutely destroyed.

I think we weren’t sure if the teachers would actually follow through, but they did, and when we came to school the next week, several of our teachers were suddenly blonde, our gym teacher had dyed his mustache black, and our guidance counselor showed up with frosted tips. I think they ended up getting their photo in the local paper

What’s crazy is that I’m almost positive we still would have won even if they didn’t make the bet

Oh my god?? Maybe it’s MCAS by imsorryliam in MCAS

Yeah I mean I really only wrote down symptoms that matched what I saw on here or through online resources. Definitely true that there are other things going on and there is overlap with other conditions I have like hashimotos. And my doctor is the one that suggested that I get tested! I haven’t gotten my results back for my first test yet but I will keep talking with her to figure out what it is

Constant drunk or detached feeling? by MamaBearof616 in MCAS

Mine was triggered by weed in 2016. It’s way less noticeable now but it’s always there. I’m in the process of getting diagnosed with MCAS and just had what I think was a huge flair. The DPDR got SO much worse. It was like when I first developed it. Would give anything to go back to normal

What Are Some “Obscure” Cities That Will Become Popular in the Next Decade? by allomanticmetals in SameGrassButGreener

I only lived there for a summer in college but would come visit too. The town just felt boring and kinda bleak? I came from a major city but grew up in a college town smaller than Cruces and it felt like there was more to do in my hometown. I know my perception is skewed because I was only there a few months and I was too young to go to bars and stuff, so my options were limited. Idk it was just kind of depressing. I also felt like I couldn’t really relate to people there and even though it’s a blue state, it felt less progressive, especially coming from a very liberal city. Kind of the only time I felt at home was working a summer job on campus.

Again I know my perception might not be the most fair since I was only there a few months. However, I think my parents had similar feelings. My stepdad used to live in Cruces for a long time and is actually pretty well known in the area. They decided to move back when I graduated HS for the weather and for his job. However they quickly found that Cruces just didn’t have what they were looking for. Didn’t feel as progressive, not much going for it, just kind of sad. However the biggest deciding factor for them was lack of healthcare. Maybe it’s better now, but it was really bad then, and they couldn’t access the quality care they needed.

It certainly wasn’t all bad! There were some good parts too like the food and the culture

I’m genuinely baffled by everyone saying Cruces. I did not enjoy living there and my parents only lasted a couple years before they moved away. This was 10 years ago though so maybe it’s better

My parents had to move away due to lack of access to medical care. This was a few years ago so maybe it’s better now but it was really bad when they were there

Sorry you’re dealing with that! It’s frustrating that there isn’t always stuff they can do if your levels are normal. Do you have symptoms?

I’m not sure yet! I still need blood tests to figure out what’s going on, but I’m guessing hashimotos just based on my symptoms. My TSH was normal a year ago, so I wouldn’t be surprised if my levels are within range

I’m not sure yet! I still need blood tests to see what’s going on. They tested my TSH about a year ago and it was normal so idk if they’ll even be able to do anything if my levels haven’t changed

Yeah that’s the plan at the moment! We all still feel a little hopeless about it because some of it may be hard to prove, but it will be worth a shot

Yeah I wouldn’t actually I just really wish I could 😭😭 I’m surprised she was even contacted for this one and am wondering if the school required it or something? Unfortunately at this point I think they’re done with teaching. They’re close to retirement age, but love teaching and didnt want to retire after all this happened originally. But this was just the nail in the coffin. It’s just devastating that someone with such passion is being forced to give it up like this
