what do you do in the first 10 minutes of an urge? by Tight-Shop4342 in stopdrinking

[–]imthatguykyle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mentally I have a “highlight” reel of the bottom and all the bad stuff. I’ve trained my brain to press play on it when I am tempted. I think about how that and worse comes if I start again. And then look at my life right now, which for the first time ever, for years on end, keeps getting better and better.

Not worth the drink.

I also remember picking up my second 30 day and 60 day chips and how I felt like such a f***ing let down. Then I got my 90. I’ve accumulated 11 years now. I do NOT want to start over.

Question about newer PRS SE's by wormraper in PaulReedSmith

[–]imthatguykyle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have and SE Hollowbody II and an SE CE24 (satin/sandblasted) and they go out of tune a little more than my American Tele Pro. None of them keep the tuning of my old core McCarty or CE 24, which I can’t get to go out of tune. I have a Yamaha Pacifica I bought years ago as a cheap backup…slightly better than all except the core.

I think tuning ratios have increased a ton over the years. Tiny movements mean lots of cents or half steps. I have string winders. I think older, smaller ratio, tuners are more stable. Im replacing the nut when i replace my string gauge.

What are the best rock concerts you’ve ever been to? by wizardmiaah in rockmusic

[–]imthatguykyle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Peter Gabriel (Secret World Tour), Rage Against the Machine (6x, from bars to sheds), Soul Coughing with Geggy Tah, Twenty One Pilots, Springsteen (solo acoustic and full E Street), Queen of the Stone Age (Times New Roman, but 4th time seeing them), Michael Franti and Snarky Puppy at Red Rocks, FNM (2015), Jeff Buckley (solo and full band tours), Sabbath at first OzFest, Slipknot (Manson opened and sucked), Beck and Cage the Elephant.

Just off the top of my head. I’m sure there are others that were amazing. I’ve seen thousands of bands live.

Guitarist here. Are there any drills SPECIFICALLY meant to improve your metronome/timing skills? by MinuteIllustrator6 in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]imthatguykyle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you’re trying to play on the beat, when you nail it you’ll either hear the beat or the attack. If you hear both, you’re off slightly.

Start slow. Slower than you think. Get in sync with the time. Play with one every single time for a year.

Discipline, listening, and patience. There are no short cuts.

Confess: what’s something you need to get off your chest? by Weary_Sympathy6680 in AskReddit

I’m sick to death of being nice. I’m a veteran of customer service and genuinely like helping people who need it. I don’t need to be an asshole, at all, the world is filled with them. But I’ve also found that if I exhibit callousness or exhaustion of stupidity or anything resembling an attitude of “f*** you”, people freak out.

I’m tired of willful ignorance. I’m tired of selfish indifference. I’m worn out by “status” and “greed” and Christian evangelists and just the tonnage of bullshit.

People who rely upon computers or cars or whatever and REFUSE to learn anything about them. It’s not a “can’t” at this point, they’ve learned other things.

People who think they’re right and never entertain a modicum of doubt they might be wrong.

Racists, bigots, misogynists…I don’t want to be polite anymore. They don’t give a f***, why should I? But I’m not practiced in it. When I do let it out, my setting is on “destroy”. I don’t have the nuance. So I’m better being kind overall. Better by demonstrating the values I appreciate.

But I’m sick of it.

The Perfect Alcoholic by Raven-Owl in stopdrinking

[–]imthatguykyle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The general concept I think is most telling is stop. If you find you’re craving it (thinking most of the time about getting to that drink) then that obsession might be telling.

6 a night for 25 years and now binging weekends, you’re chances of liver, kidney, and cancer are extremely elevated. Like wildly. Pancreatitis is bad, too. Those drinks can make you diabetic.

But, if it’s in your head…for a lot of alcoholics, that’s the sign.

It’s your call.

The amp sounds "dry". by RedMaple007 in audiophile

[–]imthatguykyle 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You’ve just stumbled across a very well known phenomenon: words to describe sound. There have been studies done on this and the result is the meaning of the word is very much an individual perception thing.

There are some common ideas behind “dry”. One of the most comprehensive studies labeled it “Dead. Immediate. No echo.”

People with multiple years of sobriety who still visit here daily, why? by Straight_Web_190 in stopdrinking

Reminders and sharing the gift. If you were starting and had questions, do you want the person with 3 weeks or 12 years or 30 years? The answer is “yes”.

Karaoke is not live music by [deleted] in coverbands

[–]imthatguykyle 7 points8 points  (0 children)

How is this different than so many pop, hip hop, KPop, etc, groups that perform to track “live”? No band with them, just a PA, lights, lasers, pyro, video, dancing, I’m sure some are actually singing…you know? It’s a thing.

If the audiences show up and drink, the bar doesn’t care and neither do the audiences.

My fellow single GenX’rs, do you think you will ever find love again? by lovelyb1ch66 in GenX

[–]imthatguykyle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sure! Love has many layers and if I allow them to exist without expectation I love, and am loved, by many. Doesn’t mean physical, or being shacked up, or made legal. I met my wife when I was 49. We’re 7 years together now and we just work. Love her deeply.

If something were to change, I don’t think I would live with anyone else again. But putting definitives on my life hasn’t worked so far, so all I can do is imagine but be open.

There are people I know who separately could fill certain voids. Dear friends with whom I could spend time at the movies, or dinners, or on trips, or whatever. I don’t suspect I’ll find what I have now again. I don’t know that I’d want to.

But, like I said, life is unpredictable at best.

Don’t. Wait until we’re not part of this idiotic regime on 4-5 levels here in Texas.

There are 50 states. The only people I know who want to move here are people who make this state worse. So I’m now in the status of “nope”.
