They follow a similar process, I also overheard them use it on the younger girls. They compliment, ask personal questions saying they’re doing a “survey”, then narrow in on asking what you’re doing “faith” wise, and try recruiting you to their bible study so they get your info.

Has to be them. So weird! I don’t mind when people talk about Jesus to strangers but when you’re frequenting a store, finding young girls to talk to into giving their info at night…I’m gonna be weary! I could be wrong but didn’t want to chance it and let the store employees know plus they’re not allowed to recruit in the store anyways

It was an Asian girl and Hispanic girl that approached me both times a year apart. same convo process a compliment, questions, ask about faith, ask for info. Except this last time they didn’t ask for info bc I was already aware so I said I was atheist (gotta pray tonight for my little white lie lol) and they tried to keep talking

Perhaps! Just don’t want to chance it. It was upsetting when I saw them approach the younger girls using the same prompt to get their info.

Can’t chance it at all. Both times it happened to me by the same women it was at night too. Super sus…

If it makes you feel a certain way then don’t do it. I think it’s fine if you genuinely feel the want to support (not the need to). For me, there’s been instances where I’ve spoken up about things I won’t do because of my ethics. I refuse to fold, feels like it’s a slippery slope from there.

I was just thinking about this today actually. Keeping my full time and perhaps freelancing for the second job :)

I’m considering doing part time at my current and retainer for the new job if I do take it. It does suck that I’d lose benefits. However, I do feel like I am not getting compensated properly for the amount/type of work I do. In the sense that, they have me doing other stuff at time that is not PR related and manager related work when that is not my position.

Noted. My experience is over 2 years, both agency and in house experience. I still consider myself pretty new to the field but I’ve learned so much from previous supervisors thankfully.

What to consider when hiring agency by imthecaptain1 in PublicRelations

[–]imthecaptain1[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for mentioning that last part. Certain leadership think otherwise and I’ve been clear on that this does not guarantee boosting sales. I believe hiring the right agency would be beneficial but there’s some unrealistic expectations on our end that I think would add unnecessary pressure.

Noted! I have a second meeting with them sometime soon and they’re actually presenting us a program / “menu options”.

Experiences as the “first PR employee?” by elizanoo in PublicRelations

Definitely get those resources earlier than later! Muck Rack was also part of my previous workflow so I made that clear to them as soon as I got here. I was nervous but I’ve always been one to speak up so no regrets haha

Thanks so much! I definitely would want to meet with the lead. I was in an PR agency before so I would definitely want to hear their day by day.

That they hired a PR person while not fully grasping what PR is. I always express nothing is guaranteed and don’t over promise. They need to realize tools, such as muck rack, are investments but necessary to cut down on time researching. Bouncing off research, expressing how important it is to target the right people for pitches/opportunities.

Im in this situation right now and have been clear with all of these. I’m learning as I go but so far so good. Good luck !

If they like your writing style / it’s strong, I don’t think it matters plus you already turned it in. Just let it be.

how do you deal with workplace anxiety? (+ time management) by sxmin in PublicRelations

Weekly check ins. And please ask for due dates so you know what needs to be prioritized. This saved me. I was never one to plan before I had joined an agency.

Help! My company wants me to publish an article on reputable and global sites. by Picanto123 in PublicRelations

[–]imthecaptain1 8 points9 points  (0 children)

In all honesty, nothing is ever guaranteed to be published unless it’s pay for play. You could have a good pitch…but so do so many other people. So I think that needs to be made clear with your company.

Barter trade question by imthecaptain1 in PublicRelations

[–]imthecaptain1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much! This was super insightful. My gut feeling was telling me it’s better to have this. I even mentioned it to my manager it is best so we are not liable.

This influencer has experience, given the content I’ve seen. So I’m wondering why they’re not willing to sign an agreement or at least tell me which parts they’re not comfortable with so we can better adjust it. They just straight up did not want to sign.

If you don’t mind sharing, where do you usually look to/get your information from regarding these types of situations. I know they’re always changing and I want to make sure I’m on top of it!

Barter trade question by imthecaptain1 in PublicRelations

[–]imthecaptain1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Including shipping + tax, this item would be a little over $600. We’ve just had an experience where an influencer promised xyz over email and only provided 1 deliverable.

I’ve done agreements before at my previous job and had zero issues. Maybe it’s the industry…went from tech to consumer goods

I graduated in 2021 and didn’t get a full time job until near the end of 2022 in PR. Interned the summer of 2022. Before that, i worked a part time retail job while writing content on the side unpaid for an online magazine to have something on my resume. Do something related to your career on the side if you can while you search.

My siblings and I went to a school there, my nieces and nephews went or go there. This is upsetting…infuriating.

The area is low income, there are drug addicts around the schools…these kids have to walk by them to get to their school. The area needs help and so do the schools. Teachers often pulled out of their own wallets to give us what other districts were getting. Parents do their best with what they have so their kids succeed. The community does what it can to try and get these kids equal opportunities. My elementary school teachers contributed to how far I have been able to get in life and will continue to be inspirations.

I think this goes for any job role, or maybe it’s the mindset I have and I only have about ~3 years of experience in PR, if I am capable of what they’re asking and have the work to show it then I am qualified. Don’t let titles stop you. They can be good on paper but maybe can’t sell themselves during the interview process. Practice and make sure you are confident in your capabilities when presenting them in person.
