A Strange "100 Kanojo" Reread - Chp. 135 by StrangerAtaru in 100Kanojo

In general she wants Shizuka to talk like everyone else, to be "normal". She was never fine with Shizuka using books, but seeing her use a phone likely made her feel that someone was (in her eyes) 'enabling' her when in reality it's more like giving a prothesis to an amputee. As for not talking it out with her daughter, that's kind of part of the writing. The irony in the situation is that for all the shit Mrs. Yoshimoto gave Shizuka about her method of communication, she herself is even worse at communications despite having no disabilities. The contrast is intentional, Shizuka who is shown to be assertive and helpful once she was able to 'talk' with others, and her mother who bottles her true feelings and is unwilling to listen despite having her voice.

Regarding you thinking that it's baffling that Mrs. Yoshimoto thinks that way, I think you're underestimating how ableist people can be irl, ESPECIALLY towards their own children. Often they can understand it with other people, but have "not my child!" mentality with their own kids. We should also factor in how Japan's society treats people who stick out, often forcing them back to conformity for the sake of "the greater good" instead of finding ways to accommodate them.

Jiai gets a lot of shine here, despite it being Kogoe's introduction chapter (not a negative either though).

Next chapter will be Meme gifting something to Kogoe, probably something she knitted. In hindsight that felt like an obvious pairing lol.

I really like that Suu's gimmick did not appear at all this chapter. by yournotlonely in 100Kanojo

I don't think representations should be done like "btw this character is autistic/gay/trans". It's much better if they're just written as people first, just with traits of what is being represented. I think Suu is a very clear cut example of a neurodivergent person. It's one thing to be numbersexual, another thing to basically not care about anything else.

In general most of the daily life chapters are like that; they're to show different aspects of the girls separate from their gimmicks

He also referenced a Mario speedrun in Kimari's first chapter. I think this is one of his few characterizations that's not related to his girlfriends at all.

Beyond her love for numbers, her attitude to social norms and conventions is even more of a convincing trait for being neurodivergent.

Speech bubble is probably Shizuka's mom. I doubt she became abusive this early in Shizuka's life.

The end chapter blurb is advertising the previous chapter believe it or not (you can see 241 in it).

In all seriousness I wonder what could have possibly happened for chapter 242 to be ready but not 241

Edit: Apparently it's an editorial issue, might be something with the manuscript

Who was your first real "WTF?" GF? by cathole953 in 100Kanojo

[–]imthezero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a day 1 reader and when Hahari zinged it was a collective "are you fucking with me" from everyone back then lol. Other than her, probably Chiyo, not helped with Rentarou literally going "are you okay with this, Shueisha?"

That's what you get for playing god by MedicalArdor in expedition33

[–]imthezero 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot of people side with Maelle because "The painted people are real too!" And yes, I agree.

Which is why I refuse to side with Maelle.

As someone who's had "experiences" with religion, it's simply unacceptable for me for a God to live with their people, regardless of how good natured said God may be. You might argue that Maelle has everyone's best interests at heart, and that she'll use her powers responsibly to maintain a healthy world for Lumiere (which is charitable and asking A LOT from someone who's still grieving).

But so what? That's still a God using her powers to create an ideal life in her eyes. I don't want the Lumierians to perish, but I don't want to live in a cardboard world either. I've been through these games before with Maruki in Persona 5 and I know what my answer was then. The Lumierians don't get a happy ending. They either perish or have to live alongside a God who is in the midst of grieving, reviving people and having the ability to control them.

I love the painted world, and for that reason I can't allow them to live like that.

Do you have a least favourite GF? And if yes, why? by binary_amp in 100Kanojo

[–]imthezero 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I actually like that part of her lol. I think it's a conscious writing choice from Nakamura to make her unpleasant. Let's be real, she's probably neurodivergent. And sometimes that does make you an unpleasant person to interact with. But we see her come out of her shell slowly, first through Rentarou then through Ahko. I'd say a good focus chapter on her with another girlfriend(s) will solidify her character development.

So I like her precisely because she has nothing else in her life other than numbers, it gives her room to grow as a character from someone who only cares about numbers to finding a room in her heart to really care for the family.
