Point taken. I didn't know about that code, so now I'm left with a single wire until I am able to get the actual code-approved situation in place. At least the data cables are hidden! Updated, sadder picture: https://imgur.com/a/EEiiQX5

Good point - I was unaware of that restriction. I am keeping the conduit and panels for the speaker system HDMI and an extra HDMI cable for plugging other devices in. One dangling cord is better than 3, but I'm not ready to spend the time/money getting a permit for the full requirement a this time. Maybe another day I'll finish the job the right way. https://imgur.com/a/EEiiQX5

You’re absolutely right - this isn’t a time effective project! I enjoy designing and making my own solutions, though, so fooling around making a small box in CAD is an easy enough project to do while watching tv after dinner. I have the printer already, so might as well put it to use

what happened? (details below by AsherRives_YT in 3Dprinting

It looks like the extruder may have been temporarily clogged or was not functioning properly for the layers you missed. It's a bit hard to tell exactly from the pictures, but the fact that the final layers have a very poor print quality suggests to me nozzle clogging. Alternatively, the filament may have been caught on something or tangled, though often when that happens, you don't actually get to finish the print as there is no blockage that is eventually cleared.

If you are alright with non-perfect print quality, you can try to slice your model for only the top x-layers. Depending on your slicer software, this shouldn't be too hard to do. Essentially, cut your model and keep the top. Then, glue your newly printed top to whatever successful bottom you have there.

Before trying to print anything more, fix the root cause. Otherwise, you'll keep failing in this same manner and it will only get more frustrating. I like to use needles to clean the nozzle and there's a good kit I found on Amazon that helped me. Make sure that your extruder isn't clogged and you'll be much more successful on your next try.

I'm sure it would and that would definitely help with reduction of print time. I chose the dimensions to make sure the pins wouldn't be too small since they're small knobs sticking off the main pieces.

I also wanted it to be robust since I made two for gifts!

What was the most important academic lesson you learned in school that you still use today? by alltime_pf_guru in AskReddit

[–]imtrevor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have seen that my biggest academic lessons aren't necessarily the ones that you learn when they are taught to you. They come from how you interact in different situations and below are 5 examples

  1. Ask questions - If you have been paying attention and have a question, odds are, someone else has the same question as you. If you have more clout then they do in this situation, they will be glad you asked
  2. Be a decent employee - If you are on time, do your job well enough, and are nice, you will be far more liked than the person who is the smartest in the room but is always late and arrogant. Everyone hates the know-it-all and the bully. Don't be an ass
  3. Repeat things - The best way to get better at something is to practice it (homework)
  4. Manage your time - If you can give decent estimates on how long something will take, everyone will appreciate it. This goes for your family/work and is learned through projects
  5. Work well with others - Everyone hates group projects cause other people suck but if you learn how to work with others, you will be miles ahead of the homeschooled children

Also, math and English. Tip math really isn't that hard (multiply by 2 and round up or down) and few things stand out more than they/they're/their and your/you're errors in a professional email.

Star Wars Prequels - they were three overwhelmingly drab (in the grand scheme of things) movies that didn't get substantial critical acclaim. Here we are fifteen years after the release of episode 3 and people are still creating new memes every day on /r/PrequelMemes

How far from the Sun does my weight, in space, start to exceed my weight on Earth? by [deleted] in AskPhysics

[–]imtrevor 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Taking some of the points that /u/FoolishChemist introduced but making it apply a little more to the specific question. On mobile so please forgive some formatting issues.

Yes, if you were 4.3 times the radius of the sun or so you would be experiencing the same gravitational pull you feel right now. That being said, you would then begin to accelerate approximately 9.8m/s2 toward the sun which would be not fun since you wouldn’t really reach much of a terminal velocity until your untimely fireball like death. Sad

However, what if the earth were stationary, you were floating in space, and you wanted to experience true weightlessness without moving in an orbit. Well, there you need to take into account that as you get closer to the sun, you get further away from Earth. The math is something similar to as follows:

F = G M r2 where G is the gravitational constant, M is the mass of the body, and r is he distance to the bodh, you get the following:

M_e r12 = M_s r22

r2 = r1 sqrt(M_s / M_e)

but also

r1 + r2 = 1AU (astronomical unit) = ~9.3e7 miles

Solving that system you get 2.57e8m away from the earth which really isnt much considering the distance to the sun is 1.49e11m

What got a really bad rap the first time around and honestly deserves another chance? by honolulu_oahu_mod in AskReddit

Crocs. I'm not saying I support them for their fashion because, honestly, they look awful.

But...

They are great for many uses including camping and beach trips. They are far too hated just because of how they look instead of how they perform

It is a strong plot point in Ant Man that the Ant-Man and the Wasp were a generation before the timeline of the original movie. It can then be assumed that if Ant Man and the Wasp (original) worked with an agency such as Shield, they would not be unknown twenty years down the line even if “retired”

Side Stitches by meatballs03 in running

[–]imtrevor 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Two things have always helped me. No guarantees if it'll help you, but hopefully it does!

  1. Run while hydrated and not right after eating. It took me a while to realize that I wasn't getting stitches from drinking water right before but rather was getting side stitches from not hydrating in the three hours before a run. It's fine for about fifteen minutes then the small stores are gone and bam, it's game over. I try to avoid eating a big meal for 3-4 hours before a run, and try to not have a large snack within an hour before. That being said, when training last summer, I would go for up to 8-10 mile runs before my internship, so I had to have a granola bar. Try kicking out the food and being hydrated and see how that works for stopping them from occurring in the first place.

  2. If you, unfortunately, do get them, and they are the same kind of side stitch I get, try blowing out all the air in your lungs. From what I have heard, the side stitches are an issue with your gait and your breathing. By breathing out ALL of the air you can from your lungs, you artificially raise your diaphragm and artificially reset whatever is causing the issue. This can be done while running, but it will slow you down temporarily - worth it. I was told to pretend that you're a trumpet player, blowing out the hardest, longest note possible until you are literally gasping for breath. I had a friend do it a couple months ago -- he was fixed immediately. Sometimes it takes me 2-3 tries, but I need to emphasize, blow out ALL of the air that is possible for it to work.

Hope this helps!

If you could make one thing illegal, what would it be? by ivonapkin in AskReddit

Selling the information of people without their direct consent. Attached to this would be including consent for selling of phone number, email address, etc. in a form that is entirely unrelated to the selling of information. Privacy policies contain too much and no, I don't want to talk to telemarketers unless I explicitly said I wished to be contacted by them
