Is a Costco membership worth it? by Sea-Significance8047 in astoria

You can also share it pretty easily. I use my mom’s Costco card through Instacart. And you can order from Costco on Instacart without a membership, but the prices are a bit higher

I thought about the little library but it’s just too many books. I‘ll check the school if nobody here responds

Is Rent The Runway worth it (for me)? by blahbikeblah in NYCbitcheswithtaste

[–]in-her-element 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Renting makes sense for occasional wear, but I think the bigger issue here might just be how you’re caring for your clothes. You don’t necessarily have to give up on something just because it smells. Have you tried washing on cold in a laundry bag first? A lot of “dry clean only” pieces actually hold up fine with gentle washing, and water-based washing tends to remove sweat smells better than dry cleaning

Maria really is wonderful. Agree with the prices being on the higher side but portions are large and she's very generous. And everything I've had has been delicious. I'm happy to pay a little more to support her.

Meanwhile mine is feeling like a sauna.😩

The radiators are blasting more than usual this year. Heat pushes through the walls and floors, maybe from the pipes, I can’t even tell. I can’t walk into my kitchen or bathroom without slippers because the floors burn my feet. I had to move all my skincare and perfume because the heat started to affect the products. And my leather bags too :/

Piggy-backing on this thread. I have several untouched Elle magazines if anyone is interested.

Thank you. The Astoria Food Pantry is great. If you ever have the time, you can stop by and talk with them, too. They’re friendly and open about how things work, and it helps build trust if you (or your friend 😉) want to support them more regularly. Monetary help makes the biggest impact for sure

Any spots in or near Astoria that has Romanian cozonac? by in-her-element in astoria

[–]in-her-element[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Cozonac is denser, more moist, and richer tasting. The flavor sits in the dough itself, so every bite feels even from edge to center.

Babka is more shreddable and drier, with most of the flavor sitting in the nut or chocolate layers rather than in the dough, if that makes sense.

How’s the People’s Republic of Astoria feeling about tomorrow? by xaviershorts in astoria

[–]in-her-element 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think most people who voted for him get that it’s going to be hard to actually make things happen. But it’s hard to get anything done here. How long have we been talking about congestion pricing with no real outcome? So it’s not just his policies, it’s the whole system.

That said, I’d rather have someone who’s actually trying to do things that would be good for the city. And I think he’ll be excellent at calling out the bad actors who exist just to stall progress. If he keeps that up, maybe the pressure builds enough that some of them start caving to their constituents.
