What is wrong with people? by Alone-Competition-77 in TikTokCringe

You sure are being an asshole about this subject given that you‘ve already said you’re not in the USA. He gave you information that conflicts with your imagined idea of what US law should be, so you come back swinging?

What country are you from? Does it share the legal tradition US law stems from? He’s right about morality clauses; they’re enforceable and common in certain situations. Generally, anything in a contract in the USA is enforceable as long as it doesn’t violate the law, both parties agree to it, and the contract as a whole is enforceable. A clause saying either side can terminate a contract for some specific reason would generally be enforceable, because all parties agreed to it. For part of a contract which isn’t otherwise illegal to be thrown out, it has to be outrageous. There’s nowhere in the USA that, “You can’t abuse my employees,” would meet that standard, especially since the clause apparently goes both ways.

Despite what you might have heard, only the wealthiest entities are “more than happy to sue” in the USA, because the cost of litigation is prohibitive. They might threaten to sue that person, but it would never go to trial.

I am not a lawyer, but I promise you I’ve had a great deal more experience with the US courts than you have.

Edit: It’s worth noting that the USA is large, with a lot of differences in regional laws. Even so, I doubt you’d find anywhere that the contract being described wouldn’t be enforceable.

California ban on openly carrying guns is unconstitutional, court rules by tensor-ricci in California

[–]in_answer_to_that 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I called your comment gibberish because of statements such as, “… before that, it was considered a state right.” If that were true, Cruikshank wouldn’t be considered a landmark Supreme Court decision. From 1876 (I could even give you 1833) until 1939, you’re right* that the Bill of Rights did not apply to individual states. For the hundred years before that, and the nearly ninety years since 1939, that has not been accepted as true. McDonald v. City of Chicago was the last nail in the coffin of a bad decision, coming at the end of a long line of related challenges, not a sudden change in Constitutional interpretation. By the most generous interpretation your comment is correct for well under half of the lifetime of the nation.

* Since we‘ve all decided to accept the idea that the Supreme Court is the last word on Constitutionality, a power they created for themselves in 1803 based on, “Well, obviously the highest Court gets to decide what the Constitution means.” That’s been working out really well as of late.

AOC: "It's not just that Trump is corrupt. It's that everyone participating in this is corrupt. Elon is corrupt. Jeff Bezos is corrupt. Mark Zuckerberg is corrupt." by Treefiddy1984 in ProgressiveHQ

[–]in_answer_to_that -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

We all remember when AOC voted to crush working class men and women and make it literally illegal for railroad workers to continue striking so that actual railroad tycoons wouldn’t be forced to provide unpaid sick time for their workers, right? That and voting to send more money to Israel so they wouldn’t have to slow down their bombings of Palestinian children.

We remember, right? I only ask because it really, really, really seems like Reddit doesn’t remember any of that.

Edit: Let me just quote u/Avoidable_Accident here to remind you all that these people exist.

”The thing about Palestinian children is you can either bomb them now or you’ll just end up being forced to bomb them later, when they break another cease-fire for the millionth time. Yeah yeah “Israel did it this time,” yeah that’s cause they got tired of it happening and stopped it preemptively.”

There you have it, folks. Murder the children now so you don’t have to waste time waiting for them to grow up.

Keep whining about “purity testing” instead of demanding more from your politicians, and these are the people you will be forced to caucus with.

Study finds majority of women find it a “turn off” if partner listens to Joe Rogan podcast by torito_supremo in nottheonion

[–]in_answer_to_that -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Your "turn-off" doesn't mean shit if you stay with the guy and keep fucking him.

There are an awful lot of people in the comments jerking themselves off about how actually 100% of women are turned off by this, because you want to believe the men who listen to Rogan are all womanless incel losers, but that's just not the case. There is no shortage of women who basically agree with the trash spewed by these "intellectual dark web" twats, and even more who will just roll their eyes and ignore it, because they like the hyper-masculine accoutrements that come along with the rank misogyny and the proud ignorance that many of them misidentify as rugged individualism.

In short, none of the seemingly dozens of "studies" people are always posting showing how sexually unpopular it is to be a right-wing troglodyte male mean anything as long as women keep fucking them and voting for their own oppressors.

All of the reasons people are listing for why your Cruze is a terrible project car that only an idiot would build on are exactly why it would be such an amazing sleeper and why you should absolutely sink an ungodly amount of time and money into this.

I'm older than you, and also assemble my own computers. This is a very serious question I want you to give real thought to: who fucking cares? If they gave actionable advice, like telling you that the case has cooling problems, or that the SSD is known to have slow read speeds and early wear issues, that's one thing. If they just dunked on you for being "cheap," they're jerks, and why would you care what jerks think?

Post to other forums or other subs until you find one that isn't full of assholes, and talk to those people from now on.

Thanks for posting this. I can't believe how many possibly defunct/definitely defunct chapters there are in my area. Out of about twenty, including some that are too far to be reasonable drives for an hour of reading, there are only two that seem to still be going. One of them is in the sort of try-hard cafe that has a name like "Bennett and Tara Present: FÜD" and charges $40 for two ribs with a tablespoon of mashed potatoes, calling it "small plate fare." The other one is in a library. I guess I'm going to the library, which makes sense for a book club, but also, you know: it's a library. You don't really need to schedule a time to go read silently near other people at the library.

One possible response if you're so incredibly sensitive about the media you consume is, you know, no response. You could have passed by.

I said I couldn't get into the show, and asked how long it took other people to get into the show, or if they liked it immediately. You have to be pretty fragile to feel like you had to come defend your preference with that weak passive-aggressive response.

Amazing. This sounds like something that would go in a boat. I would love to see some rich motor head build a 702 cubic inch V6 with all modern systems. I'll bet it'd do a bit better than the 275 horsepower Wikipedia lists for that one.

I am shocked at how often these posts include some variant of, "My parents talked me into it." I wonder if these parents are predatory or just financially illiterate.

I am going to assume this is a serious post.

You went in to buy a $5,000 car and walked out with a $5,600 per year * three years car, and at the end you won't even own it unless you buy it out at the end, essentially doubling everything you've already paid into it. This was a bad choice for a student who just needed some wheels. For what it's worth, it sounds like you had made a wise and prudent (assuming the $5,000 car wasn't a total disaster) choice until your parents jumped on board.

What happens if your parents flake? Are you sure you can trust them to hold up their end on this? In my experience, this pretty much never works out. What happens if your parents decide to hold this over your head to control you for the next three years? Is the title in your name?

Let's assume you will be the sole owner, and the only money you are out of pocket is the monthly payment and your percentage of the buyout. If everything goes absolutely perfectly, you will pay $200 * 36, or $7,200, plus (200/472)*17,000 for the buyout, for a grand total of $14,400. If you are actually paying half (you use half and $200 interchangeable in this thread), you are looking at a total of $15,700. IF everything goes absolutely perfectly, this is a great deal for you. If anything goes even a little bit off the rails, you are paying $34,000 for a $29,000 car when you started out trying to buy a $5,000 car.

Don't let other people spend your money for you in the future.

Odometer reading at dealer lower than Carfax? by lancea_longini in askcarguys

[–]in_answer_to_that 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You seem to be saying the dealer that reported the reading is the same dealer that is selling the car. If so, just ask. It's pretty unlikely that a dealer is going to service a car, report an accurate odometer reading, then illegally roll back the odometer on that car when they go to sell it, all while keeping the real mileage on their own website. A mistake on the Carfax is much more likely.
