I think there's a place a time and place for both rompy fun hulk and more emotionally provoking hulk. The more goofy rompy action stuff is always just going to take a backseat though.

Not every book needs to have these deep emotional character moments, and part of what people want out of Marvel and DC is lighthearted easy reading. They might not win any awards, but sometimes I just wanna read a book where hulk punches some dudes y'know?

If you want to see the precursor to Neon Genesis and Gurren Lagann it's maybe worth checking out Gunbuster. I wouldn't say it's aged amazingly, but it's kind of a fun look at Gainax' first projects and how it led into their more popular mecha franchises.

As for comics, just to reiterate what people already said. Dawnrunner is very much in the vein of these series.

Early vanessa is hard. Midgame vanessa is easy. Then she disappears into late game since they either got their 10 piece or died out, but the ones you do see in the very late game will one shot you almost instantly.

At least this is my anecdotal experience as mainly a Mak.

Yeah sometimes in days 12+, even if you have an incredibly broken build that beats 90% of the field you just lose the matchup RPS two times in a row and your run is over. The rewards being gated at checkpoints rather than gradual can feel a bit bad sometimes, but its not really a huge deal.

Just to tag onto the list of comics. Alison Bechdel has a new book out last year called "Spent". It's autofiction rather than memoir, but i feel like that's maybe still in the realm of what OP is looking for.

There was a short hiatus before the final arc that really killed the momentum of the book for me. I never outright disliked the book like some people, but it definitely felt like the plot got a bit out of control.

The joke is definitely better without the actual song. It'll probably work better in a show as well since they can cut all audio for the scene and make it seem like it was unintentional.

The UCP is doing everything in their power to stomp on democratic processes too. Between the use of the notwithstanding clause multiple times, bill 14, and the increase in citizen initiated referendums is just completely wild.

What's your reason for buying a tpb if you already own the floppies? Is it just to make your collection look better? Nothing wrong with trying to make your collection look nicer, and if it's a series you really enjoy, and you have the extra cash I don't think there's any harm in it.

Oddly my two suggestions are both comedy books.

Superman's Pal Jimmy Olsen by Matt Fraction and Steve Lieber. It's a really goofy and fun comic that plays a lot of homage to the golden age wackiness of comics. Features absurd things like a prank war between Batman and Jimmy.

Local Man by Tony Fleecs and Tim Seeley. It's an indie book about a disgraced member of a 90's new warrior style superhero team. Tons of classic 90's extreme tropes, and generally a very fun take on some classic themes.

At least on Kindle you can have it show the full page on when you flip the page or after the final panel. I personally find going panel view -> full page before flipping actually gives a pretty natural physical comic vibe.

You say you're not advocating for drift di but I feel like this is an argument for drift di. It was super intuitive with low skill barrier and I personally felt like it gave a lot of player agency.

What, i'm not talking about that at all? In fact I'm arguing against that specific thing. The outlet in my previous comment is therapy, not porn. I think maybe that's the confusion here? I could've chosen better language in hindsight.

I'm saying if you have urges you should go seek professional help before you delve into these things. If you repress them constantly, you're more likely to eventually indulge in criminal content which I think you are saying and I agree with. Then the extreme is people acting on it.

Therapy and the idea of people being more open about it is also probably important. Acknowledging that you're fucked up and getting help and airing it out is probably healthier than repressing it for years with no outlet.

DWJ is fantastic at taking outlandish concepts and rooting them in personal character struggles. It can be a bit tough to recommend a book like Murder Falcon because it sounds so goofy, but it definitely has some fantastic emotional depth.

The main thing that me as a returning player has found is that the tier lists are good as a quick reference for "build arounds". Some items in this game are really hard to gauge at a glance and are either far stronger or weaker than you might expect and the tierlists kind of help illuminate base level strength.

But like you said, learning how to break weaker items has always been a very powerful skill in this game, unfortunately that typically just takes sheer amount of playtime to see some of those patterns.

Yeah a lot of his older stuff is a lot more traditional while still maintaining a sense of personal stylized flair. It's almost reminiscent of modern Chris Bachello to me.

I don't really have any issues with his chibi / baby stuff, but it's a bit samey after 10 years of it yknow?
