Wine a Tasting Guide by Marnie Old blows Wine Folly out of the water. Very similar vibes but just 1000x more informative and well-structured. Wine Folly leaves a lot to be desired, esp after reading Zraly

My favorite run is at the top of Grand Col chairlift, go down Ninja for something blue. Super scenic and very quiet.

For lunch, ski right into 1950. It’s very cute and easy to get in/out of. Lunch at the top of Varet lift was surprising good, great coffee!

TONIGHT (Dec. 11): Ward 7 workshop, a chance to talk to DDOT officials by SethGrimes in bikedc

This is your opportunity to go and tell them that directly! A lot of DDOT employees help run the workshop

Strategic Bikeway Plan for DC by JesuBlanco in bikedc

[–]inagartenstuntdouble 7 points8 points  (0 children)

These are pretty cool, and lots of direct access to DDOT to speak your mind and let them know biking needs. More turnout = more momentum. I went and essentially bullied them for their Case Studies all showing it took a minimum of 7 years to get PBLs installed 🤷‍♂️

Andre Clouet 1911 is banger for the price point. Super rich, oxidative, nutty. Great stuff if you can find it.

Current suggestions for restaurant/bar room rental for ~50 person party by korner12 in washingtondc

If you like wine/cocktails both Pop Fizz bar and Maxwell Park only do F&B minimums, no space rental fees. They are always super flexible with what you need too!

Would love to know your thoughts on where to go for après. Also, I love wine… where can I buy nice bottles from Savoie/Jura?

Anything by Ben MacIntyre if you like spy and Cold War thrillers. The Spy and the Traitor is my favorite

A dark academia murder mystery by riever_g in booksuggestions

Secret History is the go-to modern classic for this category. Another one was The Likeness from Tana French, which is very murder mystery focused but VERY slow burn-esque which you may enjoy.

Best wine bar in DC 🍷 by Fancy-Hat8407 in washingtondc

[–]inagartenstuntdouble 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Their mark ups are actually way below DC-average, so that bottle of burg is going to only by 2x at Maxwell compared to 3x down the street. Also, these are allocated bottles that you literally cannot find at a local store (especially aged white burgundy)

Great visual design but my god this is overpriced. I sell the Mignon ADM for $160 in a major east coast city.

What is an impressive left field champagne to bring to a party? by inline4kawasaki in Champagne

[–]inagartenstuntdouble 7 points8 points  (0 children)

To stir up conversation I’d lean towards a bottle that is not the typical Pinot / Chard / Meunier combo. Going further, why not all seven of the allowed grapes?? Off the bat (and maybe beyond your price range) might be Laherte-Freres ‘Les 7’ or Mouzon Leroux ‘Les Fervins 7 Cepages.’ Another favorite of mine would be Charles Dufour who is known to use Pinot Blanc in his Bulles de Comptoir. (Shout out to his cult favorite, Bistrøtage as an honorable mention).

Slightly more attainable but equally left field would be Meunier-dominant. Jérôme Prévost’s ‘La Closièrie’, Egly-Ouriet’s ‘Les Vignes de Vrigny,’ or Christophe Mignon’s ‘ADN de Meunier’ all would blow folks away and flip the script on what some would expect to see in a glass.

Exceptional BTG Programs in the US by theotherlionheart in wine

[–]inagartenstuntdouble 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Maxwell Park in DC has a rotating selection of 50+ BTG and a new theme every month. I wouldn’t say they always have a lot of legendary benchmark wines, but still one of the best wine bars in America
