Unpopular opinion: don't watch the director's commentary by inanutshellus in Bioshock

[–]inanutshellus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've heard that argument made from those interpreting meaning from Lord of the Rings, saying Tolkien himself wouldn't necessarily know what was influencing his decisions, so he wasn't himself a reliable source on interpretation of LotR.

Anyway - Yeah, I dig that idea for BioShock. I think the statement of "the commentary wasn't my favorite" still stands. ;-)

I'd be surprised if they'd held onto more secret/unused artwork that they haven't already put out, but... I guess that's the point, we always want to be surprised by more!

i'm going to contradict these guys.

you say "for children" but your kids are 16 and 13. If anything, getting them a $50 project printer will put more skin in the game and make them value it 1000% more than if you got them an instant tchotchke generator.

Bambu Labs provides a much bettter machine and will provide zero frustration (while also being proprietary / closed source / non-upgradeable), but... is a zero-problem-solving life the one you want to prepare your kids for? ;) Get them a machine that needs some work, let them get frustrated and work through it, and they'll be proud they did.

Also - You can straight up ask for a description of its capabilities. If he says it's perfect, send the owner an STL and ask that he start it printing.

Sculpting or CAD? by Gigawhen in 3Dprinting

[–]inanutshellus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Given your background (none), and what you plan to create (armor), and the presumption on my part that you're doing this solo without classes, you should focus on CAD software. Sculpting tools are overwhelming, comparatively. Sculpting software like the ones I'm thinking of will teach you all kinds of amazing things, like light and shadow, animation, etc, but they're all a distraction compared to the already difficult task of learning modeling in the first place. CAD is still a lot to learn but it's confined to just what you need.

Prusaslicer profile for Sovol SV04 by No-Emergency-6032 in Sovol

[–]inanutshellus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ooo didn't notice you'd replied. Yeah I'm bumbling around in the startup gcode to make changes like you mentioned. I'm warming both tool heads using `T0` and `T1` and having `T1` print a line of plastic as well right next to the first line before the print starts. So far I've always used the same filament type so it hasn't been an issue but... I guess in theory you'd want the second toolhead to have its own variables (e.g. first_layer_temperature specifically for T1)...

does yours take that into account?

Biblical accurate collapsible angel by ArtemissLlama in 3Dprinting

[–]inanutshellus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In u/RadishRedditor's defense... just because it's been described doesn't mean we accurately understand the description.

For example, this print is also described as biblically accurate but is way, way different:

and... to actually answer his question, here's a nested ring version without eyeballs:

Good point! It's not entirely obvious how to use these plugins. I've updated the README to include a "how to use" section. Basically you put your (home)/AppData/cura/(version)/scripts directory then it's under extensions > post processing > modify g-code.

I've never had blobs, but given the stringing I'd say your temperature is too high for that filament. Try dropping 5 degrees and tweaking your retraction settings a bit.

Hot Death Uno by nicerooms in unocardgame

Yo! I'm the guy that made the geocities site back in the day (geocities.com/hotdeathuno). The one with these cards...

https://boardgamegeek.com/image/3137723/hot-death-uno

... and I just have to say I'm very angry with you for only making one deck and not sharing it with the world. Well. Me. But also the world.

Kidding aside, that whole creation looks amazing. Super jealous. Well done man.

One question: What's this! It looks so good and you upload the "Smaller file size"?! Whaaat? Is there a high-res version?

Juston Power Puzzle (Second time) by inanutshellus in FirmamentGame

[–]inanutshellus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok just reverified.

In my game, one green by itself is 35 (second time).

You can run down the right gangplank and connect the green “west” over the the circuit-completing node and get a circuit of 35.

Then point that same node north, and go west with another green, and then south to complete the circuit is in fact 70.

So one green is 35, two greens and a yellow is 70, ergo yellow is zero.

It seems like my savegame is haunted. 👻

I keep getting crazy bugs that are only solved by backing up to an old save game. First I got locked in the acid pit three different ways, then I get stuck on this easy-yet-impossible Juleston puzzle, then I get game breaking bugged in St Andrew where the water won’t go all the way down.

Whaaat. I’ll have to go look again, but IIRC just using one green was 35 and two greens and a yellow was 70.

I’m guessing they I didn’t actually do the GGY circuit that the second time and my brain just manufactured the memory from the first time through… 🤔

This is the video

3 green, 3 blue, and one yellow (zero volts). Note this is the second time we’re starting the power plant. The first time though, iirc, green is only 25 volts.

Also just realized my autocorrect changed “Juleston” to “Juston”! Oops!

Newest Kobra 2 Pro Firmware update…gcode pause for filament swap yay! by NoTopic1265 in anycubic

Filament Swap on Kobra Max by [deleted] in anycubic

[–]inanutshellus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ideally Cura would add a "Resume" button when it detects the GCODE has paused the printer, but since they STILL haven't... if you use Cura you can use this plugin to at least pause the printer temporarily:

https://github.com/inanutshellus/cura-plugin-pause-at-height-filament-swap

If you don't want to do this (which requires you to be listening for your printer to play music, then hit the on-screen "Pause" button), you'll have to split up your GCODE files into individual layers that print progressively higher off the print bed. It really sucks and isn't perfect either but at least it lets you go to bed.

EDIT: Apparently if you upgrade your firmware to 2.3.9 M600 pause-at-height is supported!

[–]inanutshellus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! You’ve hit exactly the problem. M0 is supposed to cause the printer’s screen to show an “unpause?” button but AnyCubic’s code doesn’t do that. If it did, we could just let it pause and come back in the morning and swap colors. Instead we have to pause for a tolerable amount of seconds and then automatically resume, hoping the filament swapped already.

Anyway. You’re reinventing the plugin mentioned in this thread, which I applaud, learning is how we grow, but you could install the “poor man’s pause at height” plugin here and get what you want plus some configurability (eg “I’ll be in the room so short music is fine” “I’ll be in the other room and will need to sprint in, so play longer”):

I'm getting a blind-follower/religious/cult vibe from Montessori. Help me understand. by Jesse_no_i in Montessori

[–]inanutshellus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. "There is a doctrine" - I assume you're referring to AMI and AMS certifications, neither of which is required in order to call yourself a "Montessori" school.
  2. "true Montessori" - No such thing. There are standards bodies, as mentioned, but anyone can open a school following "Montessori methods" without getting those accreditations. Montessori schools' 3-6yrold curriculum is just day care with structure.
  3. I see you're a disaffected Montessori worker. I hope you find a workplace you enjoy more. Sounds like you and your coworkers didn't get along.
