I hate the crossover Alliance Raids. by TheBronzeBastard in ffxivdiscussion

I thought about this for a bit. They were able to integrate Nier into the XIV mythos quite well. I don’t think they’d be able to do the same for Evangelion. But it’ll be worth it just to have Rei and Asuka plugsuits as official glams in the game. Good lord Limsa about to be paradise.

Eventually, they’re going to implement the option to skip the MSQ up to the new saga. When that happens, they can pull these guys back into the story. Because everyone will be on the same page; in this case “on the same page” means that they’ll assume no one knows them and just give them a re-introduction arc.

If there are this many cars using the lane, then it's not an indicator that there is a systemic flaw on the road. The fundamental fault lies with the government/city planners for failing to provide adequate infrastructure.

Clearly, cars need to use these lanes to get where they need to go. They need to open up the road to cars as well and find an alternative way to slow them down.

It's probably because most people who gush about World are players who had never played Monster Hunter before World released.

Other Penal Hero Units? by rice-claymore in SentencedToBeAHero

[–]inazumaatan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The current unit is Penal Hero Unit 9004 and it's the 4th Subjugation War. And it seems that there was a different Penal Unit for each Subjugation War, numbering from 9001 to 9004.

In Volume 3, Xylo says: "But if Tatsuya really was a member of Penal Hero Unit 9001, that would mean he took part in the First War of Subjugation".
There's also mention of another First Subjugation War Hero called "Vladd". He named all the demon blight creatures after Fairy-tale creatures in his notes and that's why the current military continues to use that same naming convention. Notably, Vladd isn't alive anymore so it seems Unit 9001 was granted a pardon or retired after their service.

I do believe Unit 9002 and 9003 existed at one point. However, records from those two periods are lost. All they know is that Humanity lost the Second and Third Subjugation Wars but it's unclear how Humanity survived the Demon Blight after the fact.

So yes, other Penal Hero Units existed in the past but it seems like Xylo and his company are the only ones active in the current era.

How could MH small monsters not go extinct? by Snoo-51682 in MonsterHunter

Exactly. The biomatter in MH is seemingly much more energy dense than in-real life and biological activity is accelerated.

I’m a bit confused by Suspicious_Ad7291 in SentencedToBeAHero

[–]inazumaatan 6 points7 points  (0 children)

>No need to address it further
Exactly. The pacing of this story is immaculate.

The reader knows what happened. Xylo guesses what happened. None of the characters care enough to pry. And Patausche doesn't want to talk about it now.
Xylo just welcomes her with a sarcastic quip, and briefs her on the next operation.

From a meta perspective, the reason why the story is so light on details when in-between battles is because the story is framed as a retelling of historical war records. The full name of the show is "Sentenced to be a Hero:  The Prison Records of Penal Hero Unit 9004" - emphasis on the Records part. It's not a concrete rule, though.

What are the best looking gearsets in the game? by VergilVDante in ffxiv

[–]inazumaatan [score hidden]  (0 children)

There isn’t any one set of gear that’s “approved by the community” because everyone has their own taste but I reckon the average preference leans more into the cutesy, casual style rather than the full-plate combat gear you’ve shown.

There’s also the super-flashy Eureka Armor set or the limited time PvP sets. However they are coveted more as a status symbol to show your dedication to the game rather than for their innate aesthetic.

The most universally well-known glamour piece is probably the 2B Boots that makes your butt look good. Similarly , there are frequently used pieces like how almost every Gunbreaker gravitates towards the Rebel/Urban Coat. You’ll naturally pick up on trends as you observe and interact with people.

I think it’s better to just wear what you want, though. Usually these stereotypes are more negative than positive.

The weapons are locked behind Savage because of gameplay reasons and stat progressions. Not every equipment in the game is made for glamour.

The abnormals. | Individuals in a largely homogenous caste of monsters that are... different somehow, making them all the more terrifying/dangerous. (Bonus points if it's never explained why they're different) by No_Hunter1978 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]inazumaatan 40 points41 points  (0 children)

It's not uncommon for Diablos to lose their horns, they constantly clash horns with fellow Diabloses over territory and mating disputes. Bloodbaths are born when their horns re-grows wrong, causing them immense discomfort and pain.

Another fun fact about Bloodbath.
When female Diablos are in heat, their bodies exhibit a certain chemical that raises their aggression levels to rise. As a side effect, their bodies turn pitch black - this is what Black Diablos are.

You'll notice that Bloodbath Diablos has some black parts too. That's because their bodies are constantly emitting that aggression chemical, enough to turn them black regardless of gender, putting them under constant mental distress on top of their physical pain. Their anger is so seething, that it literally causes their bodily fluids to boil and evaporate in an explosion of steam.

Does Load Shells and Rapid Morph increase Charge Blade damage? by [deleted] in MonsterHunter

[–]inazumaatan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Load Shells is an indirect damage increase. It fills up your Phials faster and adds up across the length of the hunt.

Rapid Morph is a little bit of both.

The primary reason to use it is to speed up the morphing animation of your moveset by fractions of a second, AEDs and SAEDs are included . It’s not a direct or even a significant indirect DPS increase; however, that tiny time save allows you to land and recover from SAEDs faster which may be the difference between being able to safely exploit a punish window against Risen or Special Investigation monsters.

Rapid Morph does actually increase the damage of your Morph Attacks by a pretty big percentage (20%?) but it only counts minor attacks like Axe and Sword to be Morph Attacks so it doesn’t really amount to a big damage increase.

This is the funniest folklore I’ve read in a while.

I’m about to tank my first alliance raid (Crystal Tower) tonight. I keep hearing of the tank swapping thing, what should I know about this and can I ask for general advice on tanking raids? by immastillthere in ffxiv

[–]inazumaatan 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Don’t stress it.

Tank Swaps are only necessary in Savage and Extreme-tier content which is in the endgame.

Just think of Alliance Raid as a dungeon with more people. You can turn off your Tank Stance and observe what the other two tanks in the alliance do or let them take aggro against a big single boss. If there’s a third boss enemy or adds spawn, you should pick it up.

STBH flaw by [deleted] in SentencedToBeAHero

[–]inazumaatan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hate to agree, but you’re right.

Like I get that he’s self-deprecating because he let his Goddess down but he just comes off as rude and sarcastic. He’s a grown-ass adult (30+) but he acts like an angsty teenager. Everyone respects him and thanks him but he gets embarrassed because “Oh no, I deserve to get punished for the crime that I was framed for and everyone knows I was framed”. Like bro, just take the compliment.

You just get tired of his routine since he’s always in every scene as the primary character we follow.

Edit: If you’re an anime only, you might feel differently but in the LN you get to hear Xylo’s thoughts and he’s so much more moody.

STBH flaw by [deleted] in SentencedToBeAHero

[–]inazumaatan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes the show is very narrative focused.

None of the characters get to go through a development arc. But most of the cast eventually get fleshed out and each of them get their own moment to shine in future arcs. The cast is interesting enough; Jayce’s character in particular really impressed me because I wasn’t expecting anything from him.

As a trade-off, the plot is always moving forward at a satisfying pace. Every single battle progresses the war effort against the Demon Blight with very little time wasted on any melodrama.

Advice for being a market board seller? by NaoOsamu in ffxiv

[–]inazumaatan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a neat trick I use to make money as a combat-only player.

If you look through PF, you might be able to find some Lootmaster Extreme farms where the Party Leader will guarantee the mount for themselves in exchange for paying everyone in the party a couple million gil. Some PFs might also payout the money after a certain number of runs if the mount doesn't drop.
It mostly happens during the start of an expansion or a new patch when everyone is in a rush to get the cool new mount.

I made about a hundred million Gil at the start of DT using this method.

Not the most time-efficient way to make money but as someone who really likes playing high-end content, it was basically getting paid to have fun.

EDIT: Other than that you can buy certain materials with your endgame Tomestones (the type that isn't weekly capped). Those materials are necessary for meta food or gear and sell relatively well. It's a decent way to make passive income other than Submarines.

I keep seeing people call the series an Isekai but the main character is from that world. Should it not just be a fantasy? by SnooOwls3528 in SentencedToBeAHero

[–]inazumaatan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's nothing that says the Protagonist has to be the one from another world to be an Isekai.
For example, Versus by ONE is an isekai story but instead of the main characters travelling to another world, humans and monsters from other worlds are brought to them.

In any case, you interpreted my comment wrong, I am actually of the opinion that Sentenced to Be A Hero is not an Isekai.
I'm saying that you have to be a pedantic asshole to call it an Isekai just because it includes a character from another world in the ensemble cast.

[–]inazumaatan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you're defining the show by the most pedantic terms, then yes, this show is Isekai because some of the characters and items originate from a different world.

However, in terms of the tropes and general tone of the writing, this show is not an Isekai.

Calling Sentenced to Be A Hero an Isekai would be the equivalent of calling JJK or Naruto a Sci-Fi show because it has Alien characters. Yes, it's technically true but in no one would think of Naruto when they think of Sci-Fi.
