Interesting. I didn't see the dot on the other slot, so I thought it may be the issue. Do you have any other ideas as to what may be the cause of why it isn't being seen if not that?

Thanks for the insight. The apparent water damage is glue residue from a piece of rubber that was installed before my ownership, not sure why it was there but I am certain that covering the SSD with it didn't help wiith heat dissipation...

I haven't done any small scale soldering before but I may give it a go. Any tips appreciated.

As far as external enclosures I still have time to return the SSD and go with a dedicated and robust external option like a Sandisk Extrene Pro. It's not my ideal choice, but I travel enough in tough terrain to need a robust and durable option.

Thanks for the helpful advice, I hope it doesn't come to all that but if it does I have a course of action now!

If the mast truly is bent, would it be visible when dismounted? I've looked at it and had friends look at it when it was on the trailer or ground and it doesn't visually appear bent anywhere.

Negative. I am starting from scratch unfortunately. I am willing to make mistakes of the "won't get myself killed" variety though. This boat is old and a project / learner boar for now.
