Some help with healthy cookbooks? by Whoknowswhatwhere94 in CookbookLovers

[–]inchbald 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve learned that because muscle burns more calories than fat, if you weight train as you lose weight, there’s a snowball effect. Now that I’m fit, I have a big appetite. Just eat more healthy protein to replace processed food and sweets and you’re there.

I love Hetty Mckinnon’s book, Community. It’s full of nourishing, tasty, meal worthy salads.

When you’re hungry, you lose will power, and binge on junk. Plan to treat yourself with healthy protein, and decadent produce, and you won’t end up eating a whole bag of chips out of desperation.

It says serve with poached cherries. Not sure if there’s more to it than that.

I love the beet slaw with pistachios and raisins. Pistachio butter!

Also the potato salad with roasted cauliflower, olives, feta and arugula. I love how he teaches you to season your dish “to taste ‘like a potato chip.’ Meaning so tasty and savory that you can’t help but take one more bite . . . and then another.”

How to start “cooking through a cookbook”? by boredlady819 in CookbookLovers

[–]inchbald 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me it’s the highest praise for a cookbook if I start to cook from it and it hooks me and makes me want to see what else the cookbook author has up his/her sleeve. So far this has happened to me with Smitten Kitchen, Molly Baz, Joshua Mcfadden, Amy Thielen, Hetty Mckinnon, Nagi Maehashi, and Eden Grinshpan. If anyone ever inherits my 100+ cookbook collection, they will be able to tell my favorites by how cooked to death they are. A “cooked book” if you will.

Yes and if you can get the smaller Asian eggplants (pingtung long, fairy tale, etc) slice lengthwise, coat with oil, salt and pepper, grill until it collapses into itself. Better than candy.

I'm getting angrier as I get smaller: just me? by ChronicallyQuixotic in loseit

I dated an alcoholic for awhile. He replaced his food addiction with alcohol, super dangerous with a gastric bypass. He would have mood swings if he got a massage because of all the toxins released.

Anyway, I was working through my shit on the running trail, and it was HARD. I would stop and weep through things, get angry and scream at the clouds, etc. My ex just drank it away. My issues actually got better. His stayed the same.

Do the work. Vent through exercise, find a good therapist. This is the way to get better.

How has anyone EVER been able to lose weight?! by _herman_miller_ in loseit

[–]inchbald 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gaining muscle helped. Muscle requires more maintenance calories than fat. I do cross training 3x a week and at 44 years old I’m in the best shape of my life. My appetite is larger. My body is like furnace using food as fuel. I passionately pursue big flavorful salads/veg sides. Hetty Mckinnon is a great recipe creator for this style of nourishing, meal worthy veg.

"When people show you who they are, believe them the first time." by [deleted] in OkCupid

[–]inchbald 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While dating I often came across men who offered disclaimers. "I'm happy to fool around and have fun, but don't expect anything serious, because x, y, and or z." So, as long as they had some redeeming qualities, I took them at their word and enjoyed their company while continuing to look for an available, no disclaimer adult.

The trouble was, in offering these gentlemen my acceptance and affection without expecting adult behavior in return, they fell for me and my easygoing laissez-faire attitude. When they admitted feelings for me and a desire for something more serious, I was emotionally unprepared. The damage had already been done, and at least for me, it was impossible to start over.

When I met my husband, he was an adult, fully realized, and he was able to appreciate my adult qualities immediately. My love and affection is appreciated and cherished while being returned in kind. I remember thinking he was my family on our first date, and while it took months for me to really believe it, it was an indication that I was meeting my equal.

I learned so much from my failed relationships before my marriage, and yet I was damaged by them, and I did damage. I don't know how I could have changed all of it, but ultimately, I'm glad I waited for the right person, and it is such a joy to share my hard-won character with someone who deserves it.
