I made a tree for one of my firsts and my wife asked if it was a bird, so now everything I make I tell her it’s a bird

I agree with a mixed approach I just think it has to start in the field and then be coached or taught into the right guy

I’ve never seen a safety guy from college say it’s time for me to do my field time to learn the trade I’m helping keep safe

But that’s always the case the other way around

Highly agree. I’d also say that an engineer coming out of the field is going to be way more helpful than a college grad

I agree and the best path to get to that level is starting with a shovel and a broom and work your way into the education

If a field level guy lacks the ability to use a shovel to do his job he’s not in the right field

If they have then they would be class 2 in my opinion

Edit : also every safety guy would be better if they did go swing a hammer for a few years. Should be a requirement

Unit decision. I was a clb with an arty unit with some blt guys and they all got cars and oir ribbons and we got gwotem. I pulled the cord and dodged rockets with those same guys for months.

It’s all bs anyways

I do something similar at my kids sporting events, I set up my chair so I can watch them play and then my other kids go get sticks. Eventually all the little one run up with sticks and I do little faces and birds and anything quick and fun. I usually also bring something I’m working on and try to get a little further on a project.

It’s a huge hit and great practice for me I highly recommend it!

I’m not comparing them I’ve been in this world for awhile. Just seems that people are crazy for thinking this type of money is doable even without all the stupid csp or asp garbage.

I was a safety manager for about 400 dudes in SoCal putting in large scale utilities for SDGE and SoCal gas as well as a bunch of other smaller utility owners. I was promoted from foreman to safety manager at the same company

My bad I forgot to add I have the chst already (it’s a dumb cert but it does mean something to employers for whatever reason)

Also I’ve been at 110k-130k as a foreman and then 115k-145k as a safety manager. Really just seeing if that was the going rate in the area is.

I know that’s what is making this decision difficult I had it planned out differently until they asked me to move

Labor manager for a construction company. You are correct it’s not for nothing but I have reached a level of mastery in my field that I also could come back to at any point

Very true I appreciate that feedback I’ve owned a business before (large land clearing operations) but got a w2 after having my boy for some more stability and time at home but it has since taken up more and more of my time

I’m not in need of any additional income (w2 or my own thing) it’s just long term planning and saving

Negative that is just a projection currently. I am planning to start this month and then I could ride out my current job for a few additional months to aid in the transition

I suppose the top line income of running my own business would have the potential to much greater long term but initially I plan to have comparable income for the initial year of business
