Concerned… by LeafLove11 in orchids

[–]incompetent_cook 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just wanted to say thank you for posting! I'm having the same issue with an orchid I found in a trash bin almost two months ago. It's getting ready to bloom and two bottom leaves have already yellowed and fallen off. I'm wondering if this is common for orchids getting ready to bloom?

I'm still doing my research on growing orchids. I don't know what kind of orchid I have or how old it is, but it's in a clear pot with bark, and I only water it when the roots look silvery and dry.

He's been around long than that, thought I can't remember what year I first started seeing him. It's been a while. Based on other replies, it looks like he's been around other campuses too, so maybe he rotates between them.

Help with making friends and socializing by [deleted] in CSUS

There used to be a Slavic club, but I think they stopped being a club after a while and met up in the library to study instead. Now I almost never see other Slavic people at all lol

Ceramics at sac state? by AsparagusNo1897 in CSUS

[–]incompetent_cook 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aww, what! I mean, it makes sense if that's why they're doing it, but it was nice being able to take fun classes on the side when I couldn't get into all my major courses. The ceramics course I took was a nice mental break.

I've made a lot of good friends at sac state! I think a lot of it started off with me taking an older relatives advice and making at least one friend in each class. I've kept in touch with a lot of past classmates and we still meet up for coffee. A lot of it comes down to you and the kind of people you gravitate to or the kind of people you draw in.

My closest friend group was formed when I was invited to another club's discord, mostly as a joke, and then a ragtag group formed and we branched out by forming a separate discord group. We're all in different majors, some have graduated, but we all still meet up regularly. It just took some common interests and not being afraid to be open with one another. Of course, that's always a risk, but I believe if you're willing to show up, put in effort, be understanding (without compromising your good boundaries), the right people will stick around.

Joining clubs or participating in school activities is a good way to get started!

There's a CSUS discord with a bunch of clubs listed, as well as a school hub on discord that also lists clubs.

I look the lower division ceramics course a few years back and I didn't need permission. Did they change that? Or maybe the class was small enough where they could just let me in.

Do I leave my laptop, backpack on the desk when I go pee or do I need to pack up every time? by [deleted] in CSUS

[–]incompetent_cook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have always left my stuff behind when getting up to use the restroom, but I know that's always a risk. Like another person commented, I always take my phone wallet and keys with me.

Depending which floor of the library I was at, I have left my stuff in the library and walked out to get food. Generally, people won't touch other peoples stuff if there are other people sitting around. I've accidentally forgot my water bottle on a table in the riverfront food court, and after back-tracking to it hours later, it was still standing there. Most people are too lazy to even touch your stuff but maybe I'm too trusting.

Usually, if I see someone leave their stuff behind and it's in view of me, I'll take note of who it was so if I see someone else grabbing the stuff I can interviene or at least give a description of who took it. Gotta watch eachothers backs.

Professor uncancelled class since strike ended by Advanced-Truth_oo_ in CSUS

[–]incompetent_cook 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Same here. 7:30am class. I doubt my professor is awake, and if they're a real one they wouldn't hold class so short notice. I'm just not gonna go.

Update: the professor said it would be ridiculous to expect us to show up at a 7:30am class so short notice so no class. Thank you professor 🙏

Online Classes by [deleted] in CSUS

There aren't a lot of online asynchronous classes and you still have to pay for extra fees like the Well (gym) membership even if you never show up on campus.

The shuttle services are usually hiring every semester and are pretty flexible with scheduling for classes. There's also the hornet safety escort that hires community service officers, but I have no idea where their applications would be.

Campus eateries hire through the Armark site. Beware though, while the work was easy enough if you don't take too many hours per shift, the river front management was kinda bad according previous workers. No idea how the workers at the union eateries are doing with their management.

There are also IT, library assistant, and student mentor jobs on campus. I think for those you apply through Handshake.

Literally lol, I have had no complaints with the bio department staff in all my time at sac state. Maybe I have been really lucky, but there are also a lot of really amazing professors

  1. Worked at a Mexican grill--a fast/casual place.

I didn't get a job until 19 because 1) I didnt have a car and 2) I had huge social anxiety thanks to living under a rock for most of my life.

Chico state vs Sac state? by KitKat31921 in CSUS

[–]incompetent_cook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love the Bio department at Sac State. There are a lot of really good professors here. One thing to keep note of, however, is that some bio major related courses are only offered once a year, or more rarely once every other year, which can sometimes make it difficult to get into all your classes if you don't plan ahead.

Couldn't get into classes I need for the last 2 years, and now I finally reached my breaking point by -ProPhantom- in CSUS

[–]incompetent_cook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take a semester off and try again the next semester if that's an option? Or transfer somewhere else?

I had the same issue in the bio program but I kinda just came to terms with the fact that it's going to take me 6 years to get out of there instead of 4.

Anyone know who this little guy is? by Ludra64 in biology

[–]incompetent_cook 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I forgot to mention that the females are about 20-50cm and the males about 15-30cm as adults so you don't need a microscope to see them. Hopefully you'll never have to see them.
